Does anyone know anything about this please? Have seen something in the media about it. A change or removal of the WCA for ESA (UC?)

I'm in the support group for ESA, will this affect me? I'm in the group where they say they will not assess them anymore.

Yes but it is still something with PIP they just stop it and you have sometimes months for appeal (70% are successful)

Yep, many people who claim PIP and have a re-assessment find it can be stopped.
I have a friend who claims PIP, and when it came to renew it, it got stopped. As a result, part of his ESA was also stopped (severe disability allowance?). It took months to sort out, and he had to go to a tribunal to get it back. Yes, he got back pay, but the months before then he was suicidal as a result of it all. He had to use food banks and borrow money.
This will happen under this proposed system too. PIP gets stopped for whatever reason... your UC is halved and you have to look for work.

Maybe this is the aim, people won't be able financially to wait for the appeal. and be forced into work

..which isn't suitable for them, then the appeal finds they are working which they may feel contradicts the descriptors for PIP. It's a minefield.

As if the cost of living crisis isn't tough enough for disabled people.

@Orangesandlemons77 You are right. This is exactly what I think will happen and I think this is the whole aim of the government. They are picking on the vulnerable to save money.

Orangesandlemons77 · 25/03/2023 11:44

It is probably the most vulnerable who would suffer as might not have support to deal with the appeals process etc

Everyone is being squeezed.

@Callmenat yes, but the subject of this particular thread is work capability assessments, which are currently undertaken by physically and mentally disabled people and those who are suffering from ill health i.e. the vulnerable.

I am not sure. In my own real life, the people in the LCRWA have not had a reassessment since long before covid. But I have read on MN about people who have had them since.
It is a worry everytime you have a text/journal message, and I completely understand the anxiety around it. Just have your evidence etc ready for another go at it.

Thankyou so much, yes it's the damn anxiety and mental health that's suffers :( :( :(

I get it. I was awarded LCWRA in 2017. Had a reassessment in 2019. Not heard a peep since. I know it is coming eventually. It is so stressful though.

Squimbo · 19/11/2023 15:13

No I haven't either, and yes it's stressful:( the last one for me was horrible, face to face and had a huge anxiety attack (every day occurrence unfortunately - some manageable) But, I've also read now that they can be phone, video or face to face? Although all 3 are horrid and I'm not good with any, phone would be better, I guess? Have you read this too..
:) 🙏
