PIP

Hi. New to the forum and PIP and am hoping some of the forum members can help me understand the claim process a little better, I applied for PIP in early December 2022. DWP told me that Capita had received my forms on December 9th. But i have not had a phone assessment scheduled yet. So i called Capita just to make sure everything was fine with my claim. They told me this morning that my claim "is in initial review" and that they "are requesting info from my medical contacts so they can do a Paper assessment". Is this a good/bad sign that my claim will be successful?

@cronicpain I uploaded my application on 6 June and got the text on 6 July saying my assessment was 11 July

JimnJoyce · 04/08/2023 10:59

should also say the text was from Capita

Lodol · 04/08/2023 11:27

Have you received a decision as of yet?

cronicpain · 06/08/2023 09:10

Mine has been passed to ATOS, 7 weeks and still not heard anything about having an assessment

Lodol · 07/08/2023 12:02

I have just phoned to update my phone number and they said my application is now with a case manager who will be making the decision soon.
in anyone’s experience how long has it taken from allocation to a case manager for a decision to be made?

it seems quite quick as I only had an assessment 2 weeks ago

footballcominghome1 · 07/08/2023 12:39

@Lodol how long did it take you to get through? I've been in hold 30 mins
This morning ended up putting down. Hope you hear soon and let us know. I'm still
Waiting for assessment.

Lodol · 07/08/2023 13:00

About 30 minutes for me too!

footballcominghome1 · 07/08/2023 13:57

I ended up giving up but might try again later. Do you think they would be able to tell me anything about where my case is up to

Lodol · 07/08/2023 14:05

They are quite vague and don’t share much she only told me it is with a case manager because I asked whilst updating the number but gave no information

MyOtherNameToday · 07/08/2023 14:22

Mine was actually decided within 24 hours - report sent recommending full PIP, rubber stamped by DWP. The actual posting out and payment bit took another fortnight. I got the money before I ever got a letter etc.

NotQuiteUsual · 12/08/2023 08:50

I have an assessment next week. Wondering how long I can expect to wait for a decision. The whole thing is so stressful I'm in a right flap about it.

Any tips for the assessment? I've looked at the CABs page, but I'm still bricking it. My condition varies a lot day by day. I can be fine one day and the next have the crisis team over.

This is pretty much identical to my recent(ish) renewal - although getting from returned renewal form to assessment was just under a year Shock

Lodol · 12/08/2023 11:37

Hiya

i am almost 3 weeks post assessment. The assessment lasted 1 hour, i received a text to say they have received the report the day after. I would ask for a copy of it as the assessor wrote quite a few things that were incorrect such as saying I am a qualified nurse university educated which I am neither so I rang to advise

i had a text at the 2 week mark to say a decision has not yet been made and not to get in touch

footballcominghome1 · 12/08/2023 13:08

@NotQuiteUsual how long did you wait to hear about your assessment. I submitted forms 8 weeks ago and still not heard about assessment

Lodol · 15/08/2023 13:36

Hi everyone

i have been awarded - not sure what rates yet

timeline - application 16th june

assessment 24th july

text to inform report received on 25th july

text on 7th august to say no decision msde

text today 15th august to say awardee and decision letter is on its way

assume backpay is automated or do I need to request? Thank you

Zoflorabore · 15/08/2023 14:11

@Lodol if you ring the pip number there is an option where you can find out the date and amount of your next payment. This is how I found out I had been awarded when ringing them to return a phone call.

the back pay went in 4 days later. The letter arrived the day after the back pay.

timeline- applied- 10th April
didn’t fill form in ( again ) and meant to call to get extension. In the meantime I received a text saying I would receive a date soon for phone assessment.

phone assessment- 10th July. Lasted 2 hours and 4 minutes. Assessor was amazing.

phone call to say I had been awarded ( that I missed ) 24th July. This is when I rang back and found out from the automated line that I would be receiving X amount on X day ( enhanced for both )

back pay went in bank- 28th July

award letter arrived- 29th July

first time claim. Shocked.

Zoflorabore · 15/08/2023 14:13

To add- no need to request back pay. it is done automatically.

im really pleased for you!

justdoit43 · 15/08/2023 15:09

@Lodol thanks for the update and please you have been awarded. Thanks for the timeline, I'm still waiting for assessment it's been 8 weeks so hopefully I'll hear soon

Munches · 16/08/2023 06:50

This is good it’s getting faster . My initial claim took five months from start to finish. My review took 14 months.

Good luck to those still waiting to hear the outcome.

backtoworktomorrow2 · 18/08/2023 07:52

Has anyone on here had a face to face assessment and can they let me know what it's like.

Elisha12345 · 18/08/2023 10:59

@backtoworktomorrow2 I had a face to face assessment and was so nervous 😓 the lady was nice though and just asks questions about what your day to day life is like. I only managed to score 4 points for daily living nothing for mobility so I've appealed also waiting for a tribunal hearing for esa aswell all very stressful at the moment but not giving up. Hope your assessment goes well x

Nightimeer · 18/08/2023 11:02

Thanks @Elisha12345 I really don’t think I’ll be able to go through with it the thought makes me feel sick. Did any one attend with you. Do you think I could ask for telephone or video. Sorry you didn’t get your award and I hope you hear soon about your tribunal x

Elisha12345 · 18/08/2023 11:16

@Nightimeer i know what you mean I felt so sick and was shaking 😔my best friend came with me so that was helpful. I have heard you can get telephone calls I wish I requested that aswell tbh hopefully you can get 1 🤞 and thank you 😊 I lodged my appeal for esa in March and not had a tribunal date yet i just want it over with but also dreading it 😔 x

I have supported a lot of people with face to face PIP appointments and it is nothing to worry about. if they ask you to do anything that is going to cause discomfort then just say you can't do it. I have only had one case where they asked my client with spinal fractures to bend down and touch the door post and I intervened and told her to refuse as she was crying in pain. The vast majority though are not like this and will just ask questions based on what you wrote on the form, how you spend your days etc.

backtoworktomorrow2 · 18/08/2023 17:29

Thanks @Babyroobs

My issues are related to my spine so that's why I'm worried if they ask me to do something and it pains and if I say no they refuse me 😢
