PIP

Hi. New to the forum and PIP and am hoping some of the forum members can help me understand the claim process a little better, I applied for PIP in early December 2022. DWP told me that Capita had received my forms on December 9th. But i have not had a phone assessment scheduled yet. So i called Capita just to make sure everything was fine with my claim. They told me this morning that my claim "is in initial review" and that they "are requesting info from my medical contacts so they can do a Paper assessment". Is this a good/bad sign that my claim will be successful?

Does anyone claim pip and work, although only part time, I'm worried this will go against me. Have telephone assessment next week

It shouldn't go against you unless your work obviously contradicts the reasons you are wanting to claim PIP so if as an example you say on your PIP you struggle to engage with others or mix with others but then do a job which is public facing etc. It may help ( if the assessor questions you on what work you do ) to explain if you have special adaptions in place to enable you to do your job.

popcorntimee · 30/08/2023 23:21

Thanks @Babyroobs I have lots of adaptions in place and the have been really accommodating regarding hourd/days

Turtlesea · 31/08/2023 10:23

Hi everyone, wish me luck, I have a video assessment in 40 mins. I am so nervous. I will report back to you all as to how it went because I am so thankful this thread is here as it has helped me a lot.

Turtlesea · 31/08/2023 11:18

They have just rung me. They are unable to do my video assessment as no one is now available. They have scheduled me for a telephone appt in 2 weeks time.

popcorntimee · 31/08/2023 11:39

@Turtlesea how annoying because you kind of prepare yourself and work yourself up for it. Is yours with capita

Turtlesea · 31/08/2023 11:44

I am honestly not sure. All I know is I prepared for this and the cancellation has knocked me sideways a bit. The man who spoke to me on the phone was really nice though.

popcorntimee · 31/08/2023 12:48

@Turtlesea I have mine next week and I just want it over with now

rightherewaiting · 31/08/2023 15:13

@Turtlesea well I've just had my telephone assessment cancelled that should have been this morning. It's so annoying

Elisha12345 · 31/08/2023 18:40

I finally have my tribunal date through for the 14th of September so nervous 😔

Cuckoosheep · 01/09/2023 19:44

Hi, I've been given a date for s telephone assessment I didn't think it could last 2 hours, I'm shocked and a little scared now.

What should I prepare for the interview? Do I need to have all my appointment dates etc at hand?

Any help would be welcome.

h0rsewithn0name · 01/09/2023 19:49

DH had his telephone assessment today. They basically went over the 12 areas on the form and asked deeper questions. Like 'can you cook a simple dinner?' Followed by 'Why can't you cook a simple dinner?' 'What would happen if you tried?'

The assessment took 1.5 hours overall, but one of DH's problems is that he can't express himself well or process information. He evidenced this problem beautifully on the phone, so time will tell. He also is hard of hearing which came out well and needs the loo frequently - he had to visit the loo three times during the assessment!

I'm pretty sanguine about it really. If he is eligible then that will be grand, but I realise they need a tight criteria for a reason.

Cuckoosheep · 01/09/2023 20:07

Thank you, I wish your husband Goodwick and think that's the best way to look at it.

I sent in a lot of evidence. I can't think of what they could ask which would take up so much time but I guess that Is dependent on the person and their condition/s too.

Cuckoosheep · 02/09/2023 11:21

Hi, does anyone know why they give telephone or face to face appointments please? I mean why they would give one versus why they would give the other?

MattDamon · 02/09/2023 11:22

Face to face is more for physical disabilities, I believe. They want to observe you in person.

Cuckoosheep · 02/09/2023 18:49

That's why I'm confused as I have chronic back pain/ sciatica. I didn't send my mri report etc

Cuckoosheep · 02/09/2023 18:50

Thank you for replying

It depends on area and whether the assessment is contracted out to which company. In my area before covid all assessments tended to be done in people's homes, so the assessor visited them - I think it was capita. Then during covid obviously they were all done on the phone and seem to continue to be in our area. I've not heard of any of my work clients needing to go to an assessment centre recently or having a home visit but it may be different in other areas.

Cuckoosheep · 02/09/2023 21:19

Thank you

My disability is physical and my assessment was on the phone

catskittens · 06/09/2023 10:20

hi can anybody help i put i9n for a change or circumstances and just got this txt

about your pip claim the health proffessional has sent the report,we will make a decision on your pip but it may take 6 weeks before you hear from us,you will still continue to get pip while your award is being reviewed

does anybody know if this could be good or bad news

many thanks

catskittens · 06/09/2023 10:23

im guessing no face to face or telephone interview??

forallthelove · 07/09/2023 17:39

I had my telephone assessment 2 days ago. Does anyone know what happens next. The lady who done the assessment did say could take up to 8 weeks but they are taking much faster and that she will let dwp know and they will let me know what rate it benefit. Does this sound like I might have scored enough to qualify. When can I call for a copy of my asssessment.

LakieLady · 08/09/2023 20:39

The assessor isn't the person who makes the decision, @forallthelove , they just write the report on which the decision is based.

I wouldn't rely on anything they said, tbh, just to avoid any disappointment.

MyOtherNameToday · 09/09/2023 19:44

I think you can get a fairly good impression from the assessor. Mine pretty much said they would be recommending PIP while qualifying with 'I don't make the decision.'

Mine was awarded within 24 hours of the report being submitted (although it took another 3 weeks to get it all posted out etc).
