PIP

Hi. New to the forum and PIP and am hoping some of the forum members can help me understand the claim process a little better, I applied for PIP in early December 2022. DWP told me that Capita had received my forms on December 9th. But i have not had a phone assessment scheduled yet. So i called Capita just to make sure everything was fine with my claim. They told me this morning that my claim "is in initial review" and that they "are requesting info from my medical contacts so they can do a Paper assessment". Is this a good/bad sign that my claim will be successful?

Have they said why they are doing a paper based assessment ? They sometimes do this for mental health conditions where they perhaps think the process might be too stressful for the claimant. It's not a bad thing to have a paper based assessment except that you won't get the opportunity to answer questions about your disability. Have you filled out the PIP form?

Sorry just seen that they have reviewed your form. If they are not doing an assessment by phone or face to face then it just means they are just going to look at your form and medical evidence and if that is sufficient to make a decision they can just do it that way.

I think its a good sign, I doubt they will do a paper assessment and then reject your claim, as you could rightly complain if they did that.

Hi, they didn't give a reason for the paper based assessment. I prefer that to a telephone or face to face assessment anyway though.

That's great to hear that, hope all goes well in the coming weeks.

Neither I'm afraid, I submitted by review in July last year and I have just been told I have to have an online chat with. Super worried cause last time I had an assessment some nurse lied all the way through the form she completed while I was at the assessment. Took 6 months to get it sorted, so if you get no to start with always appeal and use Finance Team at local hospital with the appeal

Sadly this does happen.

There has been a huge increase in paper based assessments due to the massive backlog with both new claims and reviews.

@newaccountwhodis have you heard anything? I had my telephone assessment this morning 😩 not feeling hopeful at all after it

newaccountwhodis · 17/01/2023 02:34

I haven't, unfortunately. Still waiting on Capita to get the medical evidence they need from my doctor before my claim can move forward.

Good luck with your claim by the way.

Did you not supply any medical info yourself

xxAmy · 17/01/2023 09:00

@newaccountwhodis i sent some in but on my forms asked them to request more as I couldn’t get them in time to send the forms off, so I could be in the same boat as you x

keepareaclean · 17/01/2023 09:43

@xxAmy

You can call and ask for a copy of the assessment report in a few days. It can be used as a bit of a guide while you wait for your decision and if there is anything you disagree with you can prepare you case for a Mandatory Reconsideration

xxAmy · 17/01/2023 09:49

@keepareaclean thank you, that’s what I’m going to do. I’m not hopeful, the lady was lovely, didn’t rush me at all but when I was speaking she was yawning her head off 😖

Yes, but they're asking for more

Update on my PIP application:

Capita are still waiting on more medical evidence from my doctor. Said they sent forms to my GP on December 29th but they haven't heard anything back yet. I got in touch with my doctor about this and she is going to give them a call today.

xxAmy · 20/01/2023 11:56

My little update also, I received a text to say they now have my report so Iv requested a copy of it to help prepare for MR if needed

newaccountwhodis · 21/01/2023 01:04

That's a good idea, hopefully it won't be too long now until they make a decision on your claim. Good luck.

OP posts:
sleepingbuddha · 23/01/2023 08:21

@xxAmy I had a text this morning to say I've been awarded and to wait for the letter.

I hope you hear soon.
