I’m finding potatoes so slow this month, very frustrating

melonraspberry · 10/01/2023 08:18

When crisp has a lot of content I can earn £10 in half an hour, so it’s definitely about watching the queues. But I’m doing slow queues now as I’m a bit worried about making the minimum!

Buster27 · 10/01/2023 12:07

After 10 months of not being selected I was surprised to get an Am** email last night. Not the best - 5 skips, phone cover, book and a nice bracelet, but there was only one size left and I think it might be a bit big for me. Was exciting after so long off it though!

Nothing else to add, I'm getting enough work from Crisp shifts so haven't been looking for anything else at the moment. Still plugging away at Prolific too.

Wow you must be incredibly fast. Even when busy I am lucky to make £10 an hour.

I am a fast reader but, even so, reading the content especially the longer posts takes a bit of time.

Gatekeeper · 10/01/2023 19:08

@Buster27 I got an email as well after almost a year but any excitement soon faded away. 10 items with 9 scam websites and the final one wasn't even selling anything :(

Buster27 · 11/01/2023 14:01

@Gatekeeper Oh no that's rubbish! Hopefully we aren't waiting another year to be selected and get a better round.

melonraspberry · 11/01/2023 15:38

I don’t think I’m going to make the minimum on potatoes this month- what is going on?!! I can’t do evenings as dd uses the computer then but I’ve always earnt £80 pm just early mornings and lunchtime. It’s just impossible atm.

Okisenough · 12/01/2023 14:25

I hate it when potatoes are like this, you have to spend much more time sitting around trying to make some money. It seems very quiet at the moment or perhaps too many peelers. I don't know! I wish they would increase the PPI rate but I don't think that will happen

Adelais · 12/01/2023 16:05

It feels like potato keeps making new queues for specific things and I’m wondering if that’s why there’s less in the normal queues.

RoamSeeker · 12/01/2023 19:16

have people had potato dec statement yet?

DeegeeDee · 12/01/2023 20:48

RoamSeeker · 12/01/2023 19:16

Nope, nor the expected telling off for not meeting the minimum for the month. Couldn't face it plus ill.

m00rfarm · 12/01/2023 20:50

I have been doing c for 2 years now and actually struggle to get the minimum 1000 a month. There is nowhere near enough content. Tonight there was only 50 in the queue. There are way too many people now. I think it is time for me to stop as it is hardly making any difference to my financial requirements

StillBreathingjust · 13/01/2023 07:09

No statement here either Sad I hope it hurries up!!

Magdachristie · 13/01/2023 08:19

i haven’t had a Facebook quiz from app since the new year. I only started on them in September. Is it normal to only do them for a couple of months? I thought they were more long term? I’ve now got money in payoneer but not enough to withdraw.

Me too. I suspect it will turn up today. Fingers crossed

melonraspberry · 13/01/2023 12:53

I managed a good run last night and again this morning so getting near to the minimum now thankfully!

Noone on the chat thread seems to have had an email with the quizzes on for the last couple of weeks either. I've done the last two weeks from an old link but will pause to see if I get paid for those or not.

ruralwanderer · 13/01/2023 14:28

I think I'm going to quit Potatoes. I'm getting a decent amount of writing work through from S Sci which I much prefer and getting a shift at hours worth working on Potatoes is way more difficult than it should be. I'll keep trying for shifts for the next 2 Fridays but if I've not managed the minimum £30 by the end of the month I'll email and tell them that I'm done with it.

BecauseOfIndia · 14/01/2023 07:50

@ruralwanderer I don't know what has happened with the shifts lately but they go at lightning speed don't they! I always used to be able to pick up the same ones every week, but not any more. I think they must have recruited a lot more people for the shift work which is diluting the pool for the rest of us 😞

coffeetofunction · 14/01/2023 10:13

I'm new to all this but I need to increase my income. I'd be happy to the moment to just receive Amazon vouchers ect but in the long run I am looking to increase my income once I start full time at uni. I'm not very techy, and have limited time (working, three children, dogs and studying p/t uni) so would like something not to time consuming initially.

I've read through the thread and looked at the links but I'm not sure which might be best or the easiest to use.

Any support or advice would be greatly received

ruralwanderer · 14/01/2023 14:18

@coffeetofunction the easiest ones to start with are prolific and intellizoom. Both pay out to PayPal automatically as well so no remembering to time record or submit invoices 👍

Any tips on motivating yourself to keep doing these extras when you work full time and especially if it’s not to pay for treats but things the kids need or an unexpected bill?

I start off telling myself I will do x hours and earn £, which would actually pay for a few treats on top, but rates of pay are so low that you give up all your evenings and weekends to earn a pittance. A few weeks in and I lose patience.

If I earned minimum wage even, I’d be ok with that but it’s like £3/£4 per hour on average. I’ve still got all the chores to do and kids to entertain.

I would work an extra job if my employer would allow it, but they won’t, so I’m stuck. Just thought I’d ask as some of you seem to have been doing this for years. How many hours per week do you put in and does it impact on your other relationships or your motivation in your main job? I feel so tired from it sometimes and annoyed at it being Monday again, after a weekend of other work.

This extra work pays poorly but all the things I use it for are increasing so I feel a need to do more.

ruralwanderer · 16/01/2023 07:09

@Bobsyouruncleand that sounds really tough. I can't imagine doing this work on top of a "proper" job, especially some of the lower paid work. This is my main income so I do as much as I can when the kids are at school, with some evening work when I have deadlines to meet. S Sci suits me best and I average £10 an hour doing it.

Do you do the Bespoke shifts on Crisp? They pay £10 an hour for a 2 hour block but have to be booked on a Friday afternoon and it's a massive bun fight to get a shift that isn't in the middle of the night but when you can, it's reasonably easy money.

Just checking in! I've finally got round to joining prolific and have made £1.70 already 😂 still applying for the odd 'real' job as the hourly rate for transcription is pretty lame but I've been busy enough with it. Not had any SSci this year but I think there's a fair reason for that.

I could really do with another 1 hour a day App job, that would do me nicely. Wishing I'd tried harder on Y* now but it just wasn't for me!

BecauseOfIndia · 17/01/2023 08:53

Has anyone got a live App project at the moment? (apart from A**r). It just seems to have gone totally dead for me. I've had nothing for over a year now depsite passing loads of qualifications. I just never seem to get picked! It's infuriating. I'm wondering whether it's worth bothering with any more.

I'm thinking about looking at Utest again - there used to be somebody here who did a lot on there. I had a look at it again the other day but I do find it a bit intimidating. Is anyone working on anything with them?
