I'm at Modsquad on a few projects. Pay varies but is at least minimum wage.

I am really happy there, they're a great employer but hard to get a foot in the door.

TrudyTrifle · 26/04/2023 20:03

@AdaShelby 🤣I love your subtlety

Spirogyra · 26/04/2023 20:31

AdaShelby · 26/04/2023 19:40

Cough bespoke cough

l don't have access to that although been on there a few years, l would love to know what is going on though, please could somebody pm me?

StillBreathingjust · 27/04/2023 06:36

Is anyone else shitting themselves about recent potato changes to the paid shift work? I have a feeling I am going to have to break my neck to make the same amount every month. I rely SO heavily on this income as a single parent, who already does 20hrs per week of shifts. It's giving me anxiety!!

TrudyTrifle · 27/04/2023 08:18

@StillBreathingjust Yes, I am. I feel like it was one of the only perks of being on there and sticking it out as the ppi is so poorly paid. Feels like they don’t value their experienced analysts 🤷🏻‍♀️

LolaMontezz · 27/04/2023 08:24

Yes I agree. I just don't believe that there will be enough content to match what I'm currently making with the shifts either 🤷🏻‍♀️ it's deffo gonna drop. I guess just see what happens but I don't have a good feeling about it.
I also agreed to another task, that was weeks ago now and still heard nothing about it starting 😩

TrudyTrifle · 27/04/2023 08:27

@LolaMontezz same here, I haven’t heard back. Honestly, I feel like the people working shifts are being penalised for the ones who weren’t pulling their weight during shifts. Sometimes I was on a shift and felt like I was drowning trying to dig my way through the content and clear it yet the numbers reflected that not much was coming in, so others on the shifts were clearly doing sweet fa.

BecauseOfIndia · 27/04/2023 08:34

@StillBreathingjust Yes, me too. The bulk of my monthly income comes from it and I have a whole life routine built around it as I usually do the same shifts each week. It seems a very flawed idea - if it isn't busy people won't work the queues and how can we take as much care if we have to try and maximise the amount of items we do in an hour? I thought the reason why they seperated some of the queues in the first place was to ensure people gave them the time they required.

I love how they have tried to make out it is for our benefit - so that we can earn more! Somehow, I doubt that it is the reasoning. They claim they won't add to the rater pool, as they keep doing with Mod, but I don't trust them on that either 😒

Regarding Modsquad, I have tried twice to get work with them and been turned down despite having loads of experience. As another poster said - it's not easy to get through the door.

LolaMontezz · 27/04/2023 09:28

I too have my whole life organised around the same shift patterns. I usually do four hours before the kids are even up. The only plus to it for me is that I won't have to get up at stupid o clock but I'm not sure the lack of security Is worth it.

I probably need to look for something else. If that other task came through it might be manageable in a financial sense alongside them altering the shifts. I don't like it at all. It's 100% NOT for our benefit!!

Okisenough · 27/04/2023 10:27

I don't do shifts, but I have definitely noticed something has changed. Not just in numbers and clients but also in the ways we are spoken to, it seems a little less friendly and more disrespectful. I suspect there is all sorts of pressure we are unaware of since the change of ownership.

With regards to Modsquad, I too have tried in the past and have not managed to make it onto a project. I might try again if things really go sour.

LolaMontezz · 28/04/2023 06:45

Yes I have noticed this too @Okisenough there's one in particular that i find incredibly rude.

BecauseOfIndia · 28/04/2023 07:39

@LolaMontezz I think I know who you are referring to, but in my experience they have always been incedibly rude!! Such a strange way to go about things, but it obviously works for them.

I'm going to trial working my usual shift times for a week and compare how much I earn with before. I think the trouble is that everyone will start working weekends, when previously you couldn't give those shifts away and that's when I made the bulk of my weekly money.

It's just so annoying that this has happened when Appen seems to be totally dead. Anyone getting any new projects from them?

melonraspberry · 28/04/2023 19:12

I don’t do shifts on potato but I don’t know how you can do hours in a row ! I do 30 mins at most in one go then I have to take a break, I find it mind numbing. I was looking at some retail evening work this week but I can’t quite bring myself to do that either as I enjoy my lazy evenings !

RiverSkater · 28/04/2023 19:33

How long have you been with Potato Mash @Spirogyra ?

I have been there a few years, put myself forward for other projects. Not a sniff. 😜

What is happening with the shifts?

There is a lot less content with reduced clients. One big client.... if that goes🙄ouch.
I have always thought the people we deal with are so cold and standoffish. But I suppose we are disposable so why make any effort.
I think I know who the 'rude' person is, but if it is who I think, when they were doing some drop in sessions and came across as lovely!
It is impossible to get minimum wage on PPI though.

Spirogyra · 28/04/2023 20:33

3 years @RiverSkater, l have only applied twice when they have offered 'additional tasks', always thought l hadn't been with them long enough & am probably too slow. Once it was getting close to the deadline, so wasn't surprised to not hear anything. l did get onto one, & applied within about an hour of the announcement, which probably helped as they only needed a handful of people. Yes, l always dread the main client leaving, their question trees have been simplified this year, with lots of previous options no longer existing.

Are the shifts being removed from bespoke so it is PPI? with higher pay rate at the weekends?

RiverSkater · 28/04/2023 22:35

Not sure about the shifts changes as I'm not on any.

Can @BecauseOfIndia and @LolaMontezz can throw some light on it?

@Spirogyra I have been there a similar amount of time. Also too slow I imagine but if there is enough content I'm as fast as can be without making mistakes and getting a scolding😪
Interesting what you say about when to apply, I'll keep an eye on the TP announcements!🙏

melonraspberry · 29/04/2023 07:52

I can make about £8 in 30 minutes during good sessions. I’ve finally figured the time to do it is when a certain team plays a match , and during the FA cup, so for the first time ever those fixtures are marked in my diary ! I don’t do it during slow times , waste of time.

melonraspberry · 29/04/2023 07:53

I don’t think I’m especially accurate so I’m not applying for shifts in case they notice …! I’ve never been scolded though.

BecauseOfIndia · 29/04/2023 08:23

@RiverSkater As you've realised I think, they are changing the shifts to ppi, but with a higher pate per item than in the current ppi queues. They have also assured us that they won't be adding to the rater pool in those queues - although I'll believe that when I see it! Especially with so many of us looking for back up plans and ways out. I'm thinking of getting a cleaning job, I think it will actually be more rewarding!

I was thinking this morning about all the clients that have left and wondering what alternative they now use. There must be other companies like potato out there? I'm going to start doing some research...

ZetaPuppis · 29/04/2023 09:14

I stopped potato a while ago as I just couldn't get the minimum.
I wonder if it's anything to do with the changes at twitter and less limitations on speech?

I think it might be to do with minimum wage increase. Certainly not for benefit of RAs anyway. That was ConfusedGrin they must think we have the intelligence of a doughnut.

Lots of us on a previous project went from over £1200 a month to about £200 with a couple of days notice. When we complained we were told it was only a supplementary job and nothing in life is guaranteed. There was a mass exodus then too but they just recruit more lambs to the slaughter.

Is Heidi still there? She was awful. Reminds me of Loz from Monsters inc...

Okisenough · 29/04/2023 14:27

I find it annoying when they insist that there is a lot to do and we can make lots of money when we can clearly see that there isn't, I know they want us to stick around but most of us are ppi so it makes no sense for us to sit there unpaid waiting.

Gosh the loss of that guaranteed income on the shifts will hit hard for those who were used to it.
Maybe these companies just have their own staff monitoring their social media of their own pages. I think the flagging of harmful stuff on wider social media would be harder though.
It would make sense to me to value the experinced raters but they don't seem to. Neither do they seem keen to provide any increase in payment in the current climate.

LolaMontezz · 30/04/2023 08:01

Yes, it's going to PPI instead of set rate. They did increase the pay with the minimum wage increase but now magically this has happened 🙃

Will just have to trial it and see what happens I guess. I'm not feeling terribly optimistic about it though. I think there will be a lot of trial and error and huge amounts of uncertainty. I highly doubt I'll be able to bring home anywhere near what I am doing currently. Not without more hours and extended periods of nothing happening.
