Key points…
You will need to provide Limited Company details when you apply. I believe sole traders and freelancers were accepted in the past, but this is no longer the case. Proof of Limited Company status is now required, ie your Company number on Companies House.
You will be asked to link a business bank account to your new Captial On Tap account, but I just linked mine to an ordinary Natwest current account and it was all fine. You just tell them that the bank account you are linking is a business account, they don’t know it isn’t.
Once I received my card, I activated it and then used it to buy something on eBay. An even better way to make your first transaction is to buy yourself a £1 Amazon gift card for minimum spend. You don’t even have to wait until your physical card arrives to make your first purchase as they provide you with a virtual one to use in the meantime. Meaning, you can get the £75 free cash bonus as soon as you are approved, sometimes within the hour!
Your £75 bonus will be credited to your account not long after you have made your first transaction. It will show as a credit balance minus whatever you originally spent. So, if you used the card to buy a £1 Amazon gift card, your account will show as +£74.00 when your bonus comes in.
To withdraw, you select ‘transfer’ and send the +£74 (or whatever amount) to your linked bank account. Your Capital on Tap balance will then show as zero 0.00, ie nothing owing.

They say the £75 bonus will be credited within 30 days of account opening, but mine was paid a lot quicker than that - it was the next day. Some people have since reported getting it within a few hours! As soon as it credited, I sent it to my bank account and now I have a zero balance and nothing to pay. I am keeping my Capital On Tap account as it is useful for in an emergency when you need cash quickly, eg for car repairs or a new washer.
