same re prolific - I’m on their wait list.

Thanks for the info re mod squad, probably no point in me applying as I don’t have any experience of previous moderation work, so if it’s hard to get a role there I’ll hardly be top of their list.

have given up on Qmee and survey spin as it was pennies for quite long surveys, literally 20p for half an hour (the guide times listed per survey are often under estimated).

still doing intellizoom but only qualifying for about 1 per week, and done 1 project on Appen but nothing else has come up on there, it seems pretty dead.

SlurpSlooChortle · 22/02/2023 16:39

When I log in to prolific it looks like I am looking to create a survey for people to participate in rather than me participating in them myself.

melonraspberry · 22/02/2023 21:46

Woo hoo I finally made the minimum for the month on potatoes !

Giving it til April and it remains slow I shall give up. The only time it’s worth it is late afternoon and the time I want to work is early morning, and I can’t be doing with slow intake.

BecauseOfIndia · 23/02/2023 12:14

@TheWhiteDoor and @SlurpSlooChortle I'm on the waiting list for Prolific as well. I contacted them yesterday as it's been nearly a year. Apparantly it's not operated on a first come, first served basis, it's by age / gender / demographics etc, so I don't suppose I'll ever get picked!

TheWhiteDoor · 25/02/2023 09:05

@BecauseOfIndia ahh thanks for letting us know. That makes sense.

sorrynotathome · 26/02/2023 11:53

Hello everyone. I've been lurking for a while but just wanted to say huge thankyou to @ruralwanderer for this thread and to everyone for the hints & tips. I'm on prolific and get a fair few from there but I've downloaded the alert widget as you need to be quite on the ball! I gave up with Attapoll which drove me mad with huge surveys for pennies and constantly disqualifying me after 5 mins of questions! I'm embarrassed to say that I've failed the Potato test twice now but I'll have another go. I've also registered for Roamler which looks like it could be fun.

justalittlebitextra · 26/02/2023 12:26

I've had a rubbish month - I've not even earned enough on Ap to be able to cash out of Payoneer this month. And barely any projects to sign up to. I really hope next month is better.

Survey sites have been variable - I've made a little bit on Prolific (but only a third of what I would make on a good month previously). I'm also finding some of my other usual survey sites (panelbase, YLive, Yougov, onepoll, Lifepoints and Branded Surveys) really slow and a lot of late disqualifications.

AnotherOne4 · 26/02/2023 14:41

@justalittlebitextra I think everything has been slow lately. I've not had anything on Ap for over a year. Used to be able to earn a nice amount doing this, now it's just pennies.

sorrynotathome · 26/02/2023 15:06

SlurpSlooChortle · 22/02/2023 16:39

Have you perhaps created a customer account rather than a member account?

ruralwanderer · 26/02/2023 18:50

@sorrynotathome I'm so pleased that this thread is helping but I can't take credit for it. Some wonderful posters set it up years ago and have helped a lot of people like me to make meaningful money from home which is such a lifeline.

I'm looking set to finish the month on about £400 again which I'm pleased with, especially noting it's a short month and I've had the kids home on half term for a week.

OP posts:
sorrynotathome · 27/02/2023 07:22

Ah, duly noted @ruralwanderer ! But you're keeping the thread going, which is great. If I could make £400 I would be happy. I was reading that AI is likely to make transcription a thing of the past - is that perhaps why we all seem to be getting nothing from WWW etc?

PoseyFlump · 27/02/2023 07:54

I was reading that AI is likely to make transcription a thing of the past

I had some transcription work once which was pre filled by AI. It was awful. It was easier to start from scratch. AI doesn't comprehend regional accents very well.

ruralwanderer · 27/02/2023 07:56

Ooh, that's a good question! A lot of transcription definitely can be produced via AI - in fact when I first started following these threads, I was working on several App and Neevo projects checking whether AI had correctly transcribed human speech and correcting it where it was wrong.

Whether AI will ever completely replace human transcribers remains to be seen and I don't know whether it is the reason for a downturn in work for the internet transcription companies.

Maybe some of the more experienced transcribers could contribute here?

The type of work that I do for Search Sciences is something that should stand the test of time as the clients specifically don't want AI or machine written text. It needs to be written by a human and be completely unique to other internet content that already exists.

8DPWoah · 27/02/2023 10:39

I think anyone that's ever done any work on Rev will attest to the weaknesses of AI transcription 😂 although saying that, correcting machine work is a lot easier than doing it from scratch. The difficulty with Rev is the poor quality of a lot the audio and the metrics side of things, for me.

As for the downturn in work elsewhere for one of the companies it coincided with a major change in the workflow process and contracts so I can't help but think clients have just gone elsewhere. Not sure where!

On that, Pogues is going well, I've passed the first assessment and about to start the next bit. Basic pay rate much better pm than others although if I'm reading it right and it's 24hr turnaround then actually it's not so good but I need to get further down the line before asking about things like that.

ruralwanderer · 01/03/2023 06:56

Good luck with the Pogues! Really hope that comes off for you Smile

ruralwanderer · 01/03/2023 12:24

Turns out my £400 estimate for February was almost bang on! I made £407.17, all with Search Sciences. For those wondering about hourly rates for this sort of work, I worked 37 hours and 32 minutes so for last month, I averaged about £10.85 an hour.

Checked on Ap this morning to see if I could apply for anymore and only 2 pages of projects in total! I've never known it be less than about 6-8 pages previously.

justalittlebitextra · 01/03/2023 17:11

@Winterjoy I know! It really is dire at the moment. I'm hoping there is some more work coming through in one of my longer term projects this month.

m00rfarm · 01/03/2023 21:56

I have stopped doing Potato work and I feel such relief. It was becoming ridiculously stressful trying to find enough content to make the minimum number each month. At least with me stopping, there is a bit more work for other people.

ruralwanderer · 02/03/2023 06:58

@m00rfarm, I haven't missed it one bit. Crazy really when you think how long it took to start work on Potatoes but it has definitely gone downhill over the last year or so.

Me too. It’s dire there now. Such a shame.

RiverSkater · 14/02/2023 11:48

@ruralwanderer you aren't missing anything on Crisp. No surges, few shifts (I'm not on the better paying ones anyway). Yesterday was terrible. I barely scraped a tenner.

As a freelancer we have no rights so accept these pennies or there is somebody else more than willing.
Have they ever increased the pay? I've been on there a good few years and it's still the same rate, which is shocking really.

Somebody commented the other day they had 15 items in half an hour. 😢

Looking back, there was a variety of clients but they seem to have disappeared.

The clients with the most content have slowly disappeared over the past 12 months. Contracts have obviously not been renewed.

sorrynotathome · 02/03/2023 18:15

Calling App* old hands! I've applied for two projects, one being a star sign and the other ssociated with a gold rush (I know we love our cryptics here!). Is anyone else on these? I'm not assuming I'll pass the tests for either of them but I'll give it a go. They both appeared at the same time and seem to have similar entry processes/emails - I'm a bit worried I might start getting them mixed up...

sorrynotathome · 03/03/2023 14:16

Ahem, sorry just ignore the previous post. I am indeed getting mixed up. Doh!

justalittlebitextra · 03/03/2023 19:47

@sorrynotathome the star sign one I think is just voice recording - I've been in the chat for a few months now but never received my pins for that one. I did do the one starting with a Y that is similar though (not the goldrush one though) and got paid pretty quickly.

Randomly, I've just had an email saying I've had my invoice paid today, 10 days early. Less than $30 so I won't be able to withdraw from Payoneer this month anyway - I'll have to wait until next month, assuming I get any work this month which is looking pretty unlikely at the moment!
