Photos have to be as sharp as possible and stright on of bays etc but the instructions let you know. I think 3:4 43 seting is best they pay more or less same day :) good luck

ruralwanderer · 14/02/2023 07:32

@8DPWoah I've no personal experience of JSA but very best of luck with it. I hope you find something that will generate an income and be flexible enough for you.

@SolitaryMind I've been doing Search Sciences for almost a year and it is my only earner now (I've resigned from Crisp and don't have time for Intellizoom and Prolific at the moment). I really enjoy it and if you have copywriting experience it is worth applying. It is very deadline focussed though and some briefs take a fair bit of research so it can take up quite a lot of time. I think it would be challenging to work around a full time job. I love it as it feels like a "proper" job to me but offers the home working and flexibility that I need with young kids.

8DPWoah · 14/02/2023 09:27

See I like SS but I don't have the profile to get lots of work through it so it was only bringing me about £10 a week. I'd happily do more but it's nobody's fault the work doesn't match my knowledge base, it's just a shame!

With regard to the Pogues transcription btw I applied last week and my test transcript still hasn't been checked and had feedback so I guess a) they are busy and b) they may not be desperate for new people.

Will report back on all fronts as we get news 😂

RiverSkater · 14/02/2023 11:48

@ruralwanderer you aren't missing anything on Crisp. No surges, few shifts (I'm not on the better paying ones anyway). Yesterday was terrible. I barely scraped a tenner.

As a freelancer we have no rights so accept these pennies or there is somebody else more than willing.
Have they ever increased the pay? I've been on there a good few years and it's still the same rate, which is shocking really.

Somebody commented the other day they had 15 items in half an hour. 😢

Looking back, there was a variety of clients but they seem to have disappeared.

cailingaelach · 14/02/2023 12:40

Also on Crisp, it's been dead recently. Is there any chance of getting in with Search Sciences with no copywriting experience?

Redcrayons · 14/02/2023 14:47

SomersetDreams · 13/02/2023 22:35

Anyone tried Roamler or had success with it?

I’m be been on and off with it for a while. If you’re in the shop anyway then it’s worthwhile doing it. I’ve never had a job rejected. They don’t seem to have too much around me anymore so I haven’t done any for a while.

Crisp has been dire for months. I really struggled to make the minimum last month.

melonraspberry · 14/02/2023 18:40

I’m not even half way with crisp this month. I’m only carrying on in case it might pick up. I’m going to finish this tax year then sack it off if it continues. Was googling actual evening jobs earlier .

PoseyFlump · 14/02/2023 20:41

@8DPWoah good luck with the Pogues! (I couldn't remember any of their names and had to google but got there in the end) 😂

LouisCatorze · 15/02/2023 10:55

Agree about there being less of this type of work available now. During the pandemic I was easily making an extra £300 a month but now it's more like about £60.

SomersetDreams · 15/02/2023 11:40

Neevo said the calls jobs will be ending forever. they were a good earner but not very frequent.

ruralwanderer · 15/02/2023 16:37

@8DPWoah I've just sent you a PM 🙂

8DPWoah · 15/02/2023 16:54

Thank you @ruralwanderer 🙂

Just to update on the JSA situation, it was painless and the lady was really understanding that although I want to work I'm restricted by childcare circumstances as we've no wraparound and only me that can do pickup and drop-off, and I'm applying for part time remote flexible jobs like a million other people so not getting very far. I think that my childcare situation will change in Sept also helped and that I took in my CV and my spreadsheet of job applications already done. When I said I'd been managing on freelance work that had dried up she didn't seem remotely surprised or question it.

So anyone in a similar boat, as long as you've had a PAYE type of job or similar to get the NI record that you need (it must go back quite a way as my last PAYE job ended part way though the 2021-22 tax year) I would say don't be put off looking into it further while you try to get work sorted.

Saying that I'm still not 100% sure it's been approved but the way she was talking and the fact she's made my next appointment makes me think it's all going along.

nevertakeadvicefromsomeonewhosfallingapart · 18/02/2023 23:07

Hi, I've been lurking, but wanted to ask for some advice on how to make a bit more money over the next month.
I've tried matched betting, but can't invest enough to make it work; £50 would be too much right now!
I've sold or am trying to sell everything I don't need.
I'm not able to work due to a severe fibromyalgia flare up.
What could I make and sell on Etsy or similar to make a bit of money? Something that doesn't require much in the way of outgoings. Or any other ideas to make a bit of money?

Thanks.

PoseyFlump · 19/02/2023 07:46

@nevertakeadvicefromsomeonewhosfallingapart to be honest it's unlikely someone will tell you what to make that sells well as they wouldn't want to give away a good business idea!

My advice is research. Look at what others are doing, what sells in quantity. One offs are time consuming so have to be priced higher and more special if you go down that road.

Then research the materials needed to make those items. And think how long they will take to make. Also research cost of post and packing and the platform selling fees. Once you know all this information you can get some idea of profit for your time.

I think personalised products sell well. Something where the base product is quick and cheap to source/make and then you only have to spend a little time personalising for each order. But if you can't invest £50 into matched betting (which would be returnable) can you afford to buy crafting items you might not be able to sell on quickly?

It's a shame you can't get going with MB as I made £1.5k doing that and you could use some of the winnings to invest in a business. Although I appreciate you need money now.

ruralwanderer · 19/02/2023 08:49

@nevertakeadvicefromsomeonewhosfallingapart have you signed up for Prolific? It won't make you rich but it would draw in a few quid and the payout is quick.

Also, if your Fibromyalgia is limiting your ability to work, have you been assessed about claiming DLA or any other benefits that would top up your income?

The trouble with making stuff to sell is threefold - as @PoseyFlump says, people don't want to give away what works for them and lose their niche, also the cost of materials can be high and buyers can be very demanding so if you are unable to complete something in the stated timescales, they could complain to the platform and lose you the sale, after you have invested money and time into making the item.

I have to say I've been quite impressed with prolific, I don't know why I never used it before but I've made easily £5-10 a week the last few without even trying or keeping an eye on it during the day, I've just had it in the background while transcribing. I know it's not a huge amount but it's little effort for a bit more in the pot!

PoseyFlump · 20/02/2023 07:03

@nevertakeadvicefromsomeonewhosfallingapart you can start MB with less, it just takes a little more time. IIRC I had taken back my initial investment within a week or two and was then playing with pure winnings.

Websites like Outplayed do a free trial to get you going (and often when you go to cancel a membership, they offer you a better deal) Once you know what you're doing you can figure it out yourself with a spreadsheet.

Prolific is very good. I don't get much time on it these days but still make about £50 a month.

schnauzerbeard · 20/02/2023 10:09

I do prolific. Some days I sit with no surveys, other days I have surveys throughout the day. I have had some time recently and just calculated that since 29th jan 2023 I have made £90. Not amazing but pays for some treats and the surveys are interesting.

I work for Modsquad and am very happy there. Money is okay and you get employee benefits too. Projects are varied and interesting, I've worked on lots and haven't ever had a bad one. Managers are good too and often throw bonuses around, like vouchers for the whole team for doing a good job.

Downside is it's hard to get a job there as most are filled internally or through recommendation.

SlurpSlooChortle · 22/02/2023 10:09

I signed up to prolific and have heard nothing which I am quite bummed about.
