Hi all, happy May. Welcome to this months thread. I'll load up the link later. If anyone else wants to do it, feel free, I'm rubbish at it.

The idea of this thread is to earn a bit of extra cash, as the title suggest. Have a look and these threads go back a while and might give you some ideas.

Newbies welcome. We're a lovely, helpful lot.

I have a really random question. Has anyone tried to apply for a mortgage whilst doing "this" as their main job? I have a feeling that lenders might not want to know me. Grin Actually we do have a mortgage already, which we got when I had a full time job, but I've not actually had a real job for just over a year now, and I have been self employed doing stuff for Ap etc. since June last year. We are looking to buy a new house and need to borrow more (or whatever it is that you do when you buy a new house - transfer the mortgage?), and I just realised that when they do the affordability checks my records will be so random. Blush

My husband is the main earner and could afford the mortgage himself, but as we're married I think they would want to check my earnings too. That's an interesting thought. Haha. I think I need to ask someone in real life!

furryous · 05/05/2021 14:06

@YonderTweek pretty sure you'll need your tax returns as proof of income, which is 1year+ behind, so if you mention them they might not be taken into account anyway. Best to speak to a broker and tell them that you're a 'freelancer' and they will point you in the right direction!

MooseInTheHouse · 05/05/2021 14:34

Blimey. Well, I have managed to get access to SRT for S*land at last (not because of anything I did differently).

Did people on S*land get a “Welcome to Production” email? And if so when in the process did it arrive? I haven’t got one ☹️

Thanks so much to everyone on this thread, it’s fab 🙂

AnotherOne4 · 05/05/2021 14:35

@YonderTweek - can’t help, but it’s an interesting idea. I was thinking as the work can’t be guaranteed and you’re not on a contract, I t’s not something that can be relied upon......but then saying that I suppose (for example) a self employed plumber doesn’t have guaranteed work.

Not really sure where I’m going with this lol....

I’m intrigued though....

AnotherOne4 · 05/05/2021 14:37

@MooseInTheHouse i didn’t get a welcome email. I just randomly started working on the project. It’s all guess work!! Haha

MooseInTheHouse · 05/05/2021 15:12

Thanks @AnotherOne4 I certainly feel like that Grin

Gatekeeper · 05/05/2021 15:28

here's another daft question...the maps analyst job on LB...is it map reading ?? Just asking because I famously cannot read them- it's just doesn't penetrate my brain

Catatemyhomework · 05/05/2021 15:52

@Gatekeeper, it's not map reading. Without saying too much on here, it's more trying to determine if a result is correct for a given search of a location and whether the user would find it helpful.

DeegeeDee · 05/05/2021 15:57

Yonder - like Furryous and Another say, a mortgage broker is your best bet. We just did our mortgage again with one salary and the other as a freelancer.

They wanted to see statements and p60s and self assessment but only for a financial overview rather than be included So that they had the full story. We got a mortgage at a higher than BofE rate but there were no surprises as each knew the score and he wasn't his money finding one for us. Good luck!

DeegeeDee · 05/05/2021 15:58

/He earnt his fee

Gatekeeper · 05/05/2021 16:00

thank you @Catatemyhomework

I might give this a try as I rec an email inviting me to apply

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 05/05/2021 16:43

Sorry, I have a dim Am*r query. I did my first month last month and haven't been selected for this one. However - I haven't had any reimbursements for April. Am I a bit early expecting them? How long do they take usually? Ta for the help everyone.

AM*r this month so much better for me. I was thinking not to bother after after my first month as I’m not sure I’ll even break even with the questionable exchange rate. This month I got some skin care I actually want, 3 returns all clothing, worth a decent amount and a couple of items I’ll probably give to charity. Yay. Now I just have to hope all my receipts are accepted without issues.

MoreMoneyPlease · 05/05/2021 18:06

Well, that was an absolute load of rubbish! Two candle sets, an expensive top from America but postage too expensive to return, and a wooden bowl. Won't be making a profit this month Hmm

Heyha · 05/05/2021 18:56

Just another note for newbies (like me!) There's a few of us doing transcription jobs, I'd got no experience other than being fairly quick typist-
TakeNote (I'm not familiar)
Rev (again not familiar but I've seen good things said on previous threads)
Way With Words (hard to get onto but really nice to work for, seems to be plenty of work available now although you have to be on the ball to have your pick when they get uploaded although I'm only doing a bit in the evenings as a top up)

The Appen Facebook surveys are a great little place to start earning a bit of pocket money, they can be a bit infuriating but they're quick and easy to do.

Catatemyhomework · 05/05/2021 20:10

@Gatekeeper, go for it! Nothing ventured nothing gained. Also, it is more interesting than a lot of projects. Say your friend was looking for their closest Sainsbury's, you will help the client understand if she has indeed been given her closest Sainsburys! Good luck!

ZetaPuppis · 05/05/2021 21:00

@Catatemyhomework have you done it long? So you get many errors? I find it’s sometimes so subjective.

Catatemyhomework · 05/05/2021 21:17

@ZetaPuppis, no I haven't done it at all yet! I passed the exam over the weekend. Just had all my onboarding emails this week and watched the welcome webinar this afternoon. I still have the UK exam to do now having spent hours on the US one. Hoping it becomes easier as at the moment, I'll be lucky to earn £1 an hour!

ZetaPuppis · 05/05/2021 21:35

Oh yes, of course! Memory like a sieve these days.
I can’t remember the uk exam but I don’t think it was too bad. Well, not like the main one.
I’ve been really slack and need to put in more hrs before they kick me off!

AnotherOne4 · 05/05/2021 21:36

Anyone doing the S*der**d job on Ap? I'm making a note of my hours and invoicing them, but is there anywhere on user metrics the hours tally up (is that a reliable source?)

swiftt · 05/05/2021 21:47

@AnotherOne4 I just asked this on the chat! The review time in user metrics is about an hour out for me, but then I’m not sure if I include time spent waiting in between ratings? I’ve been keeping my own tally and logging that on my invoice each day so far but it’s my first project and I’ve no idea if I’m doing it right!

swiftt · 05/05/2021 21:47

@AnotherOne4 oh, and someone answered me on the chat saying that as long as your own tally of hours worked isn’t wildly different to the review time, it should be fine.

AnotherOne4 · 05/05/2021 21:51

@swiftt - sounds like I'm in the same boat as you! I've been keeping a very strict note of my timings (down to minutes, and I don't include any 'waiting for work to load' time) Yet still my timings and user metrics don't quite tally up.

Like you though, I'm invoicing my times (from my notes)
