MLM Bot Watch 60: It takes a village to sink an island.

Continued chat exposing things such as the lies peddled and the bankruptcies hidden from view.

For those interested, the Lifetime channel is airing a documentary series called Cults & Extreme Belief. I have seen two episodes so far (FLDS, aired yesterday, and Twelve Tribes, aired last week). This coming Sunday is the first part of The Survivors Speak. So far it has been very interesting to see the similarities to MLM brainwashing. The way that active FLDS members still view Warren Jeffs as a prophet rather than a paedophile is remarkably similar to how Young Living customers view their late leader Gary Young.

In other news: I'm thinking about starting a tinfoil MLM as there seems to be a rather strong market amongst huns.

Yawn is still peddling the lie that you can get perks such as a "Huge bonus cheque" if you join her team of multiple 6-figure earners. How does she get away with this shit!

Now Nurse is asking, 'who on my friends list has been furloughed?'

Monkey see, monkey do.

Bluewavescrashing · 27/05/2020 08:14

Castle said on her stories yesterday she had a phone call from the recurrent miscarriage service. That's really sad and I feel for her.

CompleteBarstool · 27/05/2020 08:14

It's like a giant Facebook echo isn't it?!

BSintolerant · 27/05/2020 08:32

Whenever someone mentions Derek (the founder of Younique) I always think of the BBC documentary which filmed one of the Younique bots having an emotional moment at one of their culty rallies: she compared him to Jesus Christ!

For anyone who hasn’t seen this excellent piece of investigative journalism here it is:

BSintolerant · 27/05/2020 08:33

Should we have a nickname for the CEO of Younique? How about Delbot? 😂 We’ve already got one called Messiah ...

Whiterangey · 27/05/2020 11:04

I'm a very vocal atheist. I do have friends who atte Mormon. While it's a bit culty with the excommunication malarkey, it does fulfill criteria for a religion. To find out more I suggest watching the show Book of Mormon or listening to the songs which is the only option during this time of coronavirus.

It is not safe for children, the elderly, or anyone with a nervous disposition. I've seen the show 3 times, considering I've only seen Hamilton twice it shows how good it is.

Tropic biz is clearly booming. Most people they target won't have come across other MLMs so are sucked in by all the "good" things they are doing.

@collywibbles

I'm struggling to see an MLM company who isn't claiming to be having a record couple of months.

They are trying to prey on those who have been furloughed and probably going to be being out of work very soon. So across the industry the picture is being painted of record sales and recruitment figures. It's a pretty scummy attraction marketing tactic.

but let's just look at this from another perspective, even if there has been a significant spike in people signing up, how much of those record sales are actually products ending up in the hands of customers outwith the organisation, I could safely assume too not many. The vast majority will be new consultants signing up and paying for starter kits which the predatory uplines will reap the benefit of.

Even the so called free to sign up MLM's push starter kits on the new consultants, after all how can you sell anything to customers if you have nothing to showcase to them.

Whiterangey · 27/05/2020 12:47

It's always the best time to join the business and business is always booming.

While they will have seen a temporary increase in victims that is likely over.

We will see them promoting the business as a way for those who are furloughed to not have to leave their children and go back to work.

YouokHun · 27/05/2020 12:56

Agree @9dartfinish2nd, it’s an internal bubble. The trend of MLM is still downwards even if some of the top bots are kidding themselves or others that this is the big turnaround for MLM.

Norma27 · 27/05/2020 13:15

One of yawn's victims has a goal of £100k per year which is apparently totally achievable.
What a bulkshitting cow she is. More likely to bloody lose £100k.

YouokHun · 27/05/2020 13:17

I’m having an exhausting time in my therapy/coaching session with Mr H. It’s an incomprehensible word salad of half-baked and confused concepts but I have managed to distill the following:

if you’re being emotionally abused and bullied it’s because you’re inviting it and you need to be rescued and stop accepting it. You do this by basically moving yourself from the bottom triangle to the top triangle (See photo) and when you’re in the top triangle you’ll feel much better. If you’re not capable of doing this then he has a special method of helping you in your weakness and unwillingness to change. I’m just sharing this so all of you know exactly what to do to send your self esteem and happiness through the roof! You just move from the bottom triangle to the top. It is all about the two triangles! This is supposed to be his special weight loss group but I seem to have wondered into an emotional abuse workshop.

I don’t want any of you cynical old huns muttering about pyramiddy shapes In the photo (that is a later stage of the therapy).

RogueApostrophe · 27/05/2020 14:00

@YouokHun So the Predator in Dungarees is qualified to give weight loss advice? The mind boggles at his egomaniac ways. Am also struggling to see what proof there is that he has had any success with helping women lose weight!

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 27/05/2020 14:24

Is that group coaching or 1on1 coaching with Mr H?
How much does he charge? Is this a freebie to get you hooked, then you have to pay $$$ to keep going?

Also thank you for taking one for the team!

acatcalledjohn · 27/05/2020 14:24

While it's a bit culty with the excommunication malarkey, it does fulfill criteria for a religion.

I know it's not quite a cult so I know my statement wasn't quite correct (I'm a vocal atheist too, raised Protestant). It's a religion on the edge of a cult for reasons you mention (excommunication). It's some of the Mormon splinter groups (FLDS etc) that are true cults.

Still, although MLM isn't a true cult, both the JCLDS church and [insert MLM of choice] have very strong cult traits.

Hence the irony in JCLDS calling out the Youneeeeek founders. Must be like looking in a mirror for the leaders of the church.

YouokHun · 27/05/2020 15:09

@Mycatismadeofstringcheese it’s the free private group (I’m not paying good money for weird Willy’s Woo, even in the interests of research!).

There are memes (the usual meaningless platitudes and irrational positivity) and weird meandering talks from his side kick (who I notice on her FB credits Slimming World for her two stone weight loss). The discussions are what these things so often are, lots of talk about problems and trying to get people to identify with the problems to feel part of the group, but with no solutions offered. It’s an exercise in victim gathering. He keeps telling us that the solution lies just behind his pay wall. It’s laughable until one considers what would happen to someone who is vulnerable.

To be honest I’m waiting to see if the solution to all my woes; the weight problem, the emotional abuse, the anxiety, the depression, the chronic low self esteem that he insists I am suffering from, can be solved by joining either his downline (as a coach) or some choc chicken based downline. I’m hanging in there waiting to see if I get manoeuvred in that direction.

Norma27 · 27/05/2020 15:42

Weird willy really is a vile specimen.
His new sidekick cannot be much better either. Absolutely vile.

BSintolerant · 27/05/2020 17:08

@YouokHun how much does Weird Willy charge for his words of wisdom?

Qualified therapists who have trained for years must find his sort of nonsense utterly galling. Has he got a disclaimer?

YouokHun · 27/05/2020 18:24

Not sure @BSintolerant, I’ll check. As you can imagine he tries to keep the cost obscured for as long as possible.

No hint anywhere of qualifications or terms & conditions. No word about GDPR or confidentiality. No word on insurance. Like many an MLMer he thinks that conducting himself through FB somehow exempts him from all this. Having professional indemnity insurance is a non-negotiable; everything should grind to a halt if you haven’t got it.

To be honest, a properly qualified, accredited, insured and supervised therapist working using a recognised therapeutic modality probably doesn’t give the likes of homeschool too much thought from the perspective of competition, though getting tarred with the same brush is a concern! What’s more worrying is that it’s difficult for some members of the public to distinguish between a trained therapist and a therapist selling their own brand of woo. It’s possible to do real harm as the likes of Mr H won’t know their own considerable limitations. What if I had an eating disorder? What if I had a psychiatric diagnosis? What if I had active plans and intentions to harm myself? I haven’t been asked any of this. It doesn’t matter if it’s online, it doesn’t matter if it’s a group, if he’s dispensing advice he should be screening out people who could be harmed by his woo.

DownThePan · 27/05/2020 19:29

@youOKhun I just wish there was someone we could report him to. It all feels highly unethical to be offering therapeutic services with seemingly no qualifications

Spongebobette · 27/05/2020 20:30

I have perfected the height of my laptop for Zoom and filming so that the angle is flattering

Nurse has not.
