Well ... it's been one hell of a month hasn't it? I hope everyone is safe and well (and not going too mad with kids and partners at home!). As always, referral links and new starters are welcome, think we're all going to need a boost financially over the next few months.

@Leavesofautumn I don't want to waste your time suggesting stuff you're not comfortable with, am I right in thinking you'd rather avoid anything linked to AI?

There's projects a Appen not at all linked to AI - there's a few where you just rate and write a few sentences about what you think of adverts for instance.

I'm racking my brains trying to think of other stuff for you. How many hours do you think you could dedicate to earning money during a week?

OP posts:
Otterses · 10/04/2020 09:51

Another thought - is there something you could 'create' then sell on a site like Fiverr? Say if you created I don't know ... some educational resources for 5-6 year olds. That would be something you could create once and sell multiple times.

@Leavesofautumn there are also people on here who have had success with teaching English on line to I think mainly Chinese students. I can’t think who off the top of my head but someone else might along soon who does. I think that’s as much or as little work as you want and upwards of £10 an hour but hopefully someone who knows more will jump in!

Leavesofautumn · 10/04/2020 10:08

Ideally about 4-5 hours per day, but I could do 8 hours if necessary. I'm at home with lots of time and no money.

There's nothing I could create or sell.

It's not just about AI. It's about the way people talk about these companies, and the tone of voice. A lot of this thread is so Kafkaesque that you can't even work out what these tasks involve until you actually apply, which in itself is a scary way of doing things.

I know transcription work is exhausting, but at least transcriptionists can give normal answers about what exactly they do, and how and why it's being done. You listen to audio recordings and type what you hear. Much easier said than done because of accents, coughing, people talking over each other etc, because they're usually recordings of interviews rather than straightforward dictation. But it's a normal job, no cageyness, no people reading through entire threads and coming out none the wiser.

justtheonethen · 10/04/2020 10:13

@Leavesofautumn there isn't anything stopping you googling the companies in the first post yourself. You have been told why we can't talk about them 🤷🏼‍♀️

Otterses · 10/04/2020 10:17

@Leavesofautumn

Okay Smile I get that. So what you want is transparency - which I completely understand.

Have you looked into Arise? They're a home bass customer service company that recruit for big companies like BT and Sky. It's a £8-£10 hourly rate from memory.

Education First may be worth a look too - it's online teaching.

If you have the relevant experience and can commit to training I have a friend who works from home for GamCare - they've been pretty flexible around her kids, but they do look for experience.

I've finally got to the test for b**r. The email says it'll take 2-3 hours to do the qualification. Anyone remember how long it actually took them please? I'm finding these things are often wrong in regards to time estimates! Wondering when to attempt it with the small people being home!

toastytea · 10/04/2020 10:21

@527040minutes I'd say hour max! Just refer to guidelines as you do it!

girlicorne · 10/04/2020 10:21

@527040minutes not too long, read through the guidelines a couple of times so you understand the purpose of the project and have them open while you do the test, this is permitted. I think I spent a couple of hours on it.

527040minutes · 10/04/2020 10:26

Brilliant thank you! I've got a toddler and 7 year old at home so trying to time things like that when they're not around "helping", but I don't concentrate as well on an evening!

Also have the assessment for LB to do, but not sure if that's worth it now that I've seen they don't let you do other companies too. Think I answered no to whether I worked for similar companies when I applied but now do appen so need to contact them to update. Does anyone do both? Or is it an absolute no no? It looks like a lengthy exam if I'm just going to get kicked off anyway!

toastytea · 10/04/2020 10:29

@Leavesofautumn I think the reason we have to be vague on this thread is because it's a public forum. If this was an in person chat, we could be more open!

Most people couldn't discuss the ins and outs of salaries, policies etc. of their jobs on a public forum.

I can see you've said you're uncomfortable with it but do you use any social media or search engines? The work is mostly improving how they work. So for example, making sure the ads you see aren't nefarious. Improving search results. For people that use search engines and social media but aren't that familiar with it that they can be duped by harmful posts or irrelevant search results, the work we do is really important.

There are things like improving how voice assistants work but again, a lot of people depend on these and making sure a voice assistant can respond to native brit accents is great. There are some people who would struggle with a tablet/laptop but can use a voice assistant so again, it is valuable work.

I can't remember if you're the person that said it's creepy but for the reasons above, it really isn't. It's a valid contribution to making all these things work!

Rad2016 · 10/04/2020 10:30

I work for Arise and I make some okish money I can't complain. Got introduced by my brother...

Morning all!

For anyone new to this thread, I recently signed up to Swagbucks which is basically a site where you complete surveys, review products/ads and watch media in return for SB - Swagbucks. The SB are then redeemed for gift cards or cash.

It won't make as much as some of the sites listed in this thread but I've made £25 in just over two weeks and it's so easy!

If you fancy it, please use my referral code and we'll both get 500SB if you make 500SB within your first 30 days.

www.swagbucks.com/refer/SwaggerK76

Happy Swagging!

Leavesofautumn · 10/04/2020 10:56

@AStubbornlyPersistentIllusion Do you actually get to choose between money or gift cards? I really need money at the moment, not vouchers.

lilmishap · 10/04/2020 11:04

@Leavesofautumn the threads been going over a year. You're coming across as someone who is going to find fault with every suggestion made, this isn't the job centre we're not here to convince people we're sharing ideas we've found usually through Google and no moderation is not controversial.

Leavesofautumn · 10/04/2020 11:18

@Otterses thank you, I will look at Arise.

Otterses · 10/04/2020 11:26

@Leavesofautumn

It's worth a look - can anyone remember the company that's similar to Arise? The name is escaping me at the minute.

OP posts:
Suebnm · 10/04/2020 11:26

@Leavesofautumn

Rev is American English and being British English I get along with it just fine with no problems at all. I'm guessing you wouldn't though.

AdaShelby · 10/04/2020 11:45

Sorry but "we are not the job centre" has really tickled me.

Try prolific leaves. Crap money and unreliable but straightforward enough.

You do see some bizarre things on crisp and Appen but I like the majority of it.

If it's not for you don't put yourself through the testing for them though. It's quite hard and if you're not good at it they'll sack you.

GachaBread · 10/04/2020 13:31

@Leavesofautumn @Otterses I think the company you are thinking of is sensee.co.uk.

AStubbornlyPersistentIllusion · 10/04/2020 13:47

@Leavesofautumn

Yes, you can choose to be paid in PayPal gift cards of varying value. These tend to require more SB than shop gift cards of the same value though.

They also say it takes 7-10 days for the cash to clear in your account but I've always received payment within 2-3 days.

GachaBread · 10/04/2020 13:48

@Leavesofautumn have you thought about bingo chat moderating? With lots at home for the foreseeable these kind of jobs I think would be available. You can apply directly through [email protected] for SkyBingo with a covering letter and up to date CV.

Some others to try are
Careers.tombola.com
Gamseysgroup.com

Tohaveandtohold · 10/04/2020 13:49

I agree with everything @lilmishap just said upthread.
Don’t do any job you’re not comfortable with but then, don’t try to force others to divulge information that they’re not comfortable with. There’s a link on the first post to these sites and it’s very easy to do a research on every one of them on google.

Leavesofautumn · 10/04/2020 14:11

Thank you everyone. I'll have a look at those.
