A medium latte from Costa is now £3.

lazylinguist · 22/02/2020 13:47

Designer anything
Most branded foods
Extras when booking flights, car hire etc. (Booked a week's car hire yesterday for holiday in Spain. Little booster seat for 8-12 yo £77 to hire for the week Hmm).

grisen · 22/02/2020 13:48

@HeronLanyon came here to say the same about trains. It’s cheaper for us (south of England) to travel to France or Belgium on a whim than it is to go up north. And it takes roughly the same amount of travel time.

TeacupDrama · 22/02/2020 13:56

@lazylinguist buy a booster seat at halfords £15 and don't bring it back you might even get another person to buy it at car hire place on way home
the one from car hire place won't be better ot safer

Babyroobs · 22/02/2020 14:16

Just went to a café and they were charging £7 for a jacket potato and topping. Ridiculous.

user1471468296 · 22/02/2020 14:17

I don't think tradespeople are overpriced at all, they rarely earn a fantastic wage. I can't understand why people expect a builder to build them an extension, possibly knocking out walls of their existing house and ensuring the whole thing doesn't come toppling down, and pay them not much above NMW. And it is often the builder who discovers issues in the architect/surveyor's plans, so not as simple as just following a set of instructions from someone else.

glitterstarsshower · 22/02/2020 14:18

Dominos isn’t too bad. Our local one does any large pizza, garlic pizza bread, wedges and cookies for £15.99 delivered and always leaves us both stuffed and works out cheaper than when we order Chinese etc

datasgingercatspot · 22/02/2020 14:19

Trains
Rents

IndieTara · 22/02/2020 14:27

Gig tickets - extortionate
Public transport
Petrol
3 ply toilet rolls
OTC medicines

Flimflamfloogety · 22/02/2020 14:30

Laundry tablets... £10 for a tub?!
And then the supermarket own brands thinking they can charge a fiver for their own shite knock offs

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 22/02/2020 14:34

School shoes. And shoes especially for wider feet. Ok, so they use a bit more material but not that much more.

Train tickets. I would visit my elderly parents far more often if I could afford the trains going 200 miles north. DD went interrailing last year and the prices of train journeys on the Continent were vastly cheaper. I'm talking about journeys outside of her ticket.

Buses round here, in Hertfordshire. Cheaper to get a taxi into town if there's more than one person travelling. And the day saver ticket at nearly a fiver is cheaper than a return to town on a 30 min circular bus route. I.e, 30 mins into town and ten minutes home.

Flooring. I've been rocking a Bedouin tent style series of rugs on ny floor as I can't afford to put carpet or laminate down. I would happily buy lino or vinyl but even that is out of reach currently.

I'm sure I'll think of more.

GemF1287 · 22/02/2020 14:37

I totally agree perfume, cosmetics and skin care are a fortune! After being a slave to the high street for years I've recently switched over to products from FM world. A fraction of the price and great quality

whitesoxx · 22/02/2020 14:49

Gem isn't that an MLM? Are you a bot?

ooooohbetty · 22/02/2020 14:49

Perfume. I refuse to buy it.

user1494050295 · 22/02/2020 14:51

Bottled water at airports

PeepeeDarling · 22/02/2020 14:51

Soft play centre ridiculously overpriced in general but 360 Jesus wept!
Kids magazines/comics
Gin in bars/pubs

lljkk · 22/02/2020 14:54

I met up with some folk in a bar last night... £8 for a cocktail that was 75% ice and about 2" of none-ice fluid. wtaf.

yy to cinema tickets, amusement park tickets, tickets to watch professional sport, a lot of clothing brands, anything 'designer' of course.

champagneplanet · 22/02/2020 15:04

Anything from Next

Holidays in school holiday time

whitesoxx · 22/02/2020 15:14

Cinema tickets are cheap! Less than a fiver and just take your own snacks. 2 for 1 on tues and weds too.

AtMyDesk · 22/02/2020 15:19

Most cosmetics

CalleighDoodle · 22/02/2020 15:25

Cinema snacks. Dd wanted a slushy. It cost more than the price for seeing the film.
Ice skating.
Vegetarian food in restaurants.
Fuel for the car.
Public transport for shit service (in the north)
Washing powder.
Buying extra energy on Lemmings.

woodhill · 22/02/2020 15:34

Theatre and gigs.

Houses especially with stamp duty

ooooohbetty · 22/02/2020 16:27

Bottled water that's free from the tap. Never bought it and never will.

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2020 16:34

Bus travel

Train travel

Parking in some places (I bothered it's quite reasonable)

Certain branded clothing. I don't want to pay £65 for a sweatshirt just because it's a certain brand. My teens disagree.

Glasses. I'd rather pay more for an eye test and have cheaper glasses.

Sun screen.

Doctor Martens. They were only £30 ish when I was young. I'd don't think their price increase is inline with inflation.

Gas and electricity.

Gin.

NHS dental charges.

BikeRunSki · 22/02/2020 16:39

Vegetarian food in restaurants

Totally this! Like an aubergine costs as much as a lamb shank!! I know.... economies of scale, different skill set, made to order etc, etc, etc, but it really grates!
