and not the kind you would expect!

We havent overspent, in fact we are broke before that! Lol

Basically we decided to do our house up with the money my parents were giving us for the wedding.

We ALL decided that was best as everything we own since moving in 2 years ago was second hand and falling apart. Me and DP arent 'party people' and weren't looking forwards to the reception at all.

So we are getting married and going back to my mums after with small group of people for meal and champers.

BUT - we had a small amount of money put away for the wedding, but when we started to do up the house we got a bit carried away and spent it on flooring for the kitchen and other bits.

Now its 8 weeks till the wedding - and even though were not doing it BIG I hadnt realised how much we do still actully have to buy and now Im panicking!!

Basically i need shawls/boleros for the 3 bridesmaids as its winter and cant have them freeze - (I can do my own make up - but wouyldve liked to buy some new) i have no nice underwear, the men dont have suits, the fee for the church and other bits and bobs!

Oh and the champers and buffet food!
Oh dear

Could you ask people to bring a bottle?

Could you ask your mother to pay for the church as a wedding present?

Don't bother with the shawls - they won't be out side for long?

daisyandbabybootoo · 30/08/2007 09:58

e-bay????

kitsandbits · 30/08/2007 09:58

Oh and i wasnt completly without a plan as MIL borrowed a chunk of our wedding fund and promised she would give it us back by september - but shes moved to Menorca - and may not even be back for the wedding, and basically we are 99% we wont see that money before the wedding!

Cazzybabs - my mum was paying for the whole wedding, but shes bought us a whole new kitchen instead - I cant ask for anything else

get a nice fizzy wine instead of champers, you can get some nice ones for about £6 a bottle and if you go to costco or somewhere, you can get a good deal on cases

inthepink · 30/08/2007 10:01

Do you know anyone that sews?? a friend of mine made the wraps for my bridesmaids, still had to buy the material though but worked out much cheaper than buying them.

CountessDracula · 30/08/2007 10:01

I would contact MIL and explain you need it back - if she can afford to move to Menorca she can afford to give you back your money even if it means taking out a loan to cover it.

daisyandbabybootoo · 30/08/2007 10:02

at you future MIL. Tell her you need the money or there'll be no wedding!

daisyandbabybootoo · 30/08/2007 10:03

there's an idea, rather than boleros, just get lengths of nice material as a shawl and hem the edges.

CountessDracula · 30/08/2007 10:03

For champers shop around for 2 for 1 offers on Cava in supermarkets, should be some coming up soon with summer (so-called) ending.

Food you can do yourselves surely. Just keep it simple, buy a big leg of ham and cook yourself, do some salads and get cheese, make some puddings.

Shawls, can't they buy their own? Or failing that make some?

kitsandbits · 30/08/2007 10:04

Oh , my aunt sews!! Hadn't thought of that! thanks!

MIL just says shes broke, ive had tears over this for about 6 months,

We've asked and asked and asked...

\link{http://www.tesco.com/winestore/controller.aspx?Bc=60180&Bc2=60180%7cSparkling+wine&R=7201910\t his cava £3.50 a bottle!)

Well I think she is being very unfair
It is your wedding, she should pull out all stops to repay you

CountessDracula · 30/08/2007 10:07

sorry here

kitsandbits · 30/08/2007 10:09

thanks CD

Can you not just get wraps or pashminas from somewhere like Tie Rack, hire suits or get people to buy their own to match, Lidl do a good fizzy fro less than £4 a bottle.

fussymummy · 30/08/2007 10:16

Why not just postpone the wedding until you can afford it?
Or just the two of you go off and quietly get married!

junkinmytrunk · 30/08/2007 10:17

I have a cream fur bolero age 2-3 if you have bridesmaid that age

CountessDracula · 30/08/2007 10:17

Hire suits
not too expensive

fake pashminas in all colours for 99p!!!

LIZS · 30/08/2007 10:19

Oh and I'd suggest you work out your fixed costs like the Church fees and so on then see how much you can realistically afford for the remainder.

kitsandbits · 30/08/2007 10:19

Fussymummy - we just want to get married - we have already sacrificed our party and stuff,

so we are just having the absolute basics - we dont want anymore - we just got a bit carried away doing the house up and now the weddiing savings are gone,

Even if we just end up getting married and going for chippy afterwards Im doing it this November, I want to be married to my love!! lol

Why not bin church and have a reg office wedding, we did, it was really lovely and not so formal!

CountessDracula · 30/08/2007 10:21

where do you live?

Cowardice · 30/08/2007 10:23

How about a buffet style meal afterwards?

Some ham, potato salad, turkey etc... would be lovely. Make a bowl of punch.

Or I do think what fussymummy says makes sense

Why did you spend the cash on the house if you knew you were getting married?

kitsandbits · 30/08/2007 10:27

Because we thought our MIL was giving us the money back.

Because Ive had alot on my mind and didnt realise how close the wedding was.

Because we canceled the reception and party and i thought we had everything - but it was only when i sat down and really thought about it - we havent.

Because.. i dont know I feel bloody daft now though.

Mighthave to sell my bugaboo
