@TheCanterburyWhales I am EXACTLY the same with Appen. Registered and applied for loads of projects but..nothing! I have a degree and I am on FB/Insta so you would think I would meet the criteria. But...nothing! I find the whole Appen set up so confusing and not user friendly. Not a fan...unless they let me on a 6m task... haha!

BlockRockinBeats · 03/11/2019 00:36

After saying that about Appen, I have been approved to do a one off Nifler task. If I do it, when and how do I invoice them? Sorry for this very basic question to experienced Appen workers. It just looks so overwhelming.

If I DID complete this one off take tomorrow...what do I do next? I get the impression WE have to invoice them and, if we don't, no payment will be made. Is this right?

So...imagine I do the task tomorrow...what do I do next re payment?

So sorry if this sounds such a basic question but the whole Appen set up confuses me and I believe this is deliberate! Can anyone help? I don't want to spend hours on a task then not know how to get them to pay me.

Thanks in advance you glorious moneymakers!

pisspants · 03/11/2019 00:42

wow- another month!
I haven't had as much time this month to do as much matched betting or online English teaching as I've been doing electoral canvassing work in a lot of my free time.
I just finished today and for what ended up being 30 hours work which I could do any time over the last 5 weeks I'll have earned over £500. Not too bad. I'd really recommend people contacting their local council about doing it - it's an annual canvas done in October so you could ask to put your name down for next year.
I'm doing 2 projects on appen - Nile and Saluda and have invoiced them for what should be about £350.
I've made about £90 through matched betting and made £85 on cambly. So overall total for October is £1025. My best yet, but am still trying to.figure out how to balance it all out and what extra work I can do and sustain without burning myself out or depriving the kids of attention.

justtheonethen · 03/11/2019 07:17

@BlockRockinBeats invoicing is actually really easy on Appen. Go to invoices tab. Then there will be a create invoice button- just click that and fill in the row.
If it's an auto generated invoice (should say in guidelines) it will be listed already and they will load your hours onto an invoice and you will just need to wait until they have then submit it.
So if you do it today then you can put your invoice in from the 1st of December (up to the 5th) to be paid around the 10th-14th January.

00Salix00 · 03/11/2019 08:38

I'm hoping to be more active this month (Christmas is looming!)

I've had the Shoppix app, and despite uploading every receipt I have and doing all surveys, I have only earned one £5 payout in 3 months. How are you all earning TV is per month? Do you womble receipts? (I thought this was against the app guidelines?

I have signed up and been accepted with Appen, but I think I have a couple more hoops to jump through - it's not a very intuitive site.

£1.46 on Prolific so far.
Ebay sales are drying up.

This month I am going to research/start matched betting too - thanks for the tip re opening a dedicated bank account for this :)

Good luck everyone!

00Salix00 · 03/11/2019 08:39

Excuse spelling/grammar/clunky finger errors. I hope the gist is there!

TheCanterburyWhales · 03/11/2019 08:59

BlockRock- Have you tried Lionbridge? I've reapplied to them as I started the process back in Feb/March but got too busy with my proper job. They seem even less user-friendly as an interface than Appen (gah) but when I started my application I was accepted straightaway onto something that I just didn't have time to do.
Sod's Law that now my hours of teaching have been cut, I've got all the time in the world! I'm currently waiting on Lionbridge to say if they want me on their books (to start applying for tasks) or not

Will redo Crisp this week (even though am on their waiting list anyway) Might as well

Bellasblankexpression · 03/11/2019 09:27

Hello all! I dropped off for a bit as my freelance work got a bit busy. As predicted it has now dropped off a cliff.
I signed up to crisp ages ago, got 20/20 and am a freelance social media manager by trade (which I put in) so was hoping to have been accepted now for this dry spell but nothing.
Do you think it's worth me signing up/doing the test again?

toastytea · 03/11/2019 09:27

Can anyone on cambly give advice on the video you have to upload. I got mine taken down cos it wasn't suitable and I'm not sure if it's cos of the video quality. I have an oldish laptop and video quality isn't the best. Not sure whether to try again cos if it is the video quality then there's not much I can do about it!

Appen has been best for me! I got accepted on Nile which I'm so pleased about.

I've had vypr for 3 months and still not reached 10,000 points.

I find prolific really good cos you know you're not wasting time being screened for surveys. Made £20 pretty quickly on there.

I passed the crisp test first time months ago but never heard back!

I've signed up for isoftstone but can't see any tasks really.

I don't have any guaranteed blocks of free time so I'm not sure whether cambly would work for me anyway.

Bellasblankexpression · 03/11/2019 09:35

I was also going to ask - has anyone done nIle on appen? I can't see how much it pays or how long it takes!

pisspants · 03/11/2019 09:47

@toastytea are you sure you had a clear background for the cambly video? I had my profile picture rejected as it had my dog in it! i think they are also quite strict about a fairly plain background and good lighting also. I had a desk lamp behind my laptop facing me and that seemed to work ok.

@Bellasblankexpression I am on Nile and it is minimum of 5x 1 hours (sometimes takes a little longer than an hour i find) but you can do it 7 days a week. You are not allowed to do more than 1 batch of 30 per day though and they pay $14 per hour

toastytea · 03/11/2019 09:52

@pisspants the background was fine. I was dressed in a jumper that had stars on and I was wondering if that was the problem? Or just the video quality. HP laptop from circa 2014.

How do you find it?

mangomama91 · 03/11/2019 09:57

Thank you @Blockrockinbeats! I've used your referral link to sign up ! :D

pisspants · 03/11/2019 10:00

@toastytea hmm I'm not too sure, if you raise a support request they should let you know what the issue is though, I have found they are quite quick to come back with queries.
I really like cambly, its pretty flexible and it is great that it is weekly pay - when I have been in a bind I have just increased my hours on there which really helped. There are students from all over the world too and I've spoken to so many interesting people it has been great. I tend to average about $9 an hour on there as you end up with a few mins per hour where you are not on a call.
I am not on there so much as my appen has increased and that pays more but it is so boring compared to cambly! I did build up quite a few regulars on Cambly fairly quickly which also makes it easier as speaking to total strangers endlessly can get quite tiring quite quickly. I found I cant do more than about 2 hours of it in a row.
Good luck on there though.

ScoutFinchsHam · 03/11/2019 10:48

Is seems the motto for Appen is it might not ‘appen!

@toastytea I find Vypr frustrating too as it’s so slow and bitty. Shame, as it’s quite fun to do. I only manage £5 a month.

lynsey91 · 03/11/2019 11:13

October really wasn't great for me (not that any month has been really good this year!). Only things I am doing fairly regularly are Prolific and Qmee.

Having done all the sign up offers for matched betting at the beginning of the year I am now struggling to make anything.

Appen have been hopeless for me. I was accepted for Nile but could never get the tool to work and despite emails to them it was never sorted so they threw me off for not working it! I have 8 other tasks supposedly progressing on Appen but really don't hold out much hope.

I was supposedly accepted for Crisp in April/May but not heard anything more.

I think I need to look into teaching English. I am quite happy to take the TEFL exam but don't have a Degree which a lot of companies seem to want. Does Cambly want a Degree and, if not, are they ok to work for?

I am getting pretty desperate now. I can't work because of ill health and DH is struggling because of his health. Luckily he is self employed but is only really managing to work 2 maybe 3 days a week. We are just about managing but with Christmas coming up I am really worrying. Plus we have a couple of bills outstanding and really need to buy some heating oil

DontCallMeDarling · 03/11/2019 13:19

@lynsey91 Having the same issue with Appen! I am so frustrated. Attempting to start again tomorrow but if it continues to not work then I suspect they will throw me off too. It seems unfair but they have so many workers on their books that we are literally just a number to them!
Have fingers crossed you get something good soon.

That applies to everyone who is still waiting for a project or crisp. I really hope it happens sooner rather than later.

Frenchdoors1 · 03/11/2019 14:00

It's the 'not knowing' too.

I just checked the projects on appen and for Peppermint it says work is expected to start in about a week. A week from when? Haven't been on laptop for a few days so don't know when that was added. Can't make plans incase I have to keep 15 hours a week free for this. Confused

pisspants · 03/11/2019 14:05

@lynsey91 you dont need a degree for cambly, you just have to be a native English speaker. They are fine to work for - you get paid weekly and can start as soon as you are accepted. it varies how long it takes to be accepted though- mine took about 6 weeks I think.
If anyone is joining I have a referral code which would give me $20 after you've worked a certain number of hours, I would be very grateful if people would use it, its this:

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 03/11/2019 14:12

If anyone is looking to set up a separate bank account for all the online stuff, Cashback at gambling sites, matched betting etc. then I would recommend Monese, it's really easy to set up and use and we both get £15 when you make your first transaction.

Get a £15 welcome gift when you open a Monese account and do the first transaction with the Monese Card. Just use JENNI517. Download the Monese app here: https://monese.app.link/i3XIzF1ui0?invite=JENNI5177_

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 03/11/2019 14:22

I like Revolut too as it's faster than Monese to transfer money to. We only get £6 each for referral though! I have both for maximum free cash lol!

rhij86 · 03/11/2019 15:04

@SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock are these bank accounts? IE will they show up on your credit file as such - considering opening both (mainly for the free cash haha) but wondering if it will look bad opening a number of accounts in a short space of time?

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 03/11/2019 15:24

@rhij86 they are more like pre paid cards I think . It shouldn't affect your credit rating I don't think. Hope not anyway!

rhij86 · 03/11/2019 15:29

@spockpaperlizardscissorsrock thanks I'll take a look
