Hello veterans and newbies Grin can't believe we're still going a quarter of the way through the year!

I don't know about everyone else, but I've been crap at tracking properly. Obviously I've got invoices to go off, but I'm going to try to be better this month.

Good start this morning! £28 (£18 less my £10 deposit) on a virgin bonanza box, £8 cashback on the virgin deal too. £10.61 Appen work already done today. I most likely won't do any Crisp today, as I've got an essay due Friday I need to crack on with.

£36.31 so far this month.

How's everyone else ticking along?

anyone experience of Falcon? bit concerned they want 3 hours a day 5 days a week. is it normal they are as particular?

LittleAndOften · 24/05/2019 17:23

Hi everyone, looks like you're all being productive (even if it gets a bit frustrating!). Well, what a difference a day makes! I've been emailed two work opportunities this afternoon. One is for ongoing copywriting work (hurray!) and the other is for the examining board for whom I mark. I have to apply for the second one but I'm hopeful as the pay is excellent and I meet their selection criteria.

I'm still going to persist with Crisp and Appen (I'll apply this weekend) as neither of the above jobs will pay out any time soon, and the second job is just during the exam window.

I'm trying to be organised and track all spending. I've downloaded spending tracker app, debt payoff planner and am faithfully snapping all my receipts. I also counted up all our small change - £8 in 2ps, 1ps and 5ps Shock. Bagged it and banked it.

Otterses · 24/05/2019 17:36

@LittleAndOften any thoughts on market research? I saw a great £100 (I think!) one aimed at teachers earlier on People For Research. It was a remote study of 60 minutes I think Smile

Congratulations Littleandoften. Do you mind me asking what the job offer is for the examining board? I mark for one too and am just curious.

LittleAndOften · 24/05/2019 18:25

@ooh Otterses you superstar I will check that out!

@margaritasbythesea it's a quality control job for an external agency, I just got emailed out of the blue. It sounds like they must be covering all exam boards, but I don't know what the criteria were for who they invited to apply iyswim, or if it's subject-specific. Obvs I'm hoping it's because I'm special and awesome (!) but for all I know they emailed all their examiners! Sorry, not much help.

LittleAndOften · 24/05/2019 18:26

Sorry I should add it's just for a few days during the marking period.

margaritasbythesea · 24/05/2019 18:35

I'm sure it's because you're awesome Smile. Well done!

LittleAndOften · 24/05/2019 18:45

Haha must be Grin

BeeMyBaby · 24/05/2019 21:44

@anxiouswaiting I'm with take note and they definitely seem to be the highest paying company for home transcription I could find. I started with a wpm of about 50 and I'm now closer to 70 after several hours of audio but it still takes me a long time to do as it's got to be very accurate (but not umms and errs unless specified and I've never had one of those yet). Plus the audio tends to be quite interesting. I can only do it at night as I can't have any background noise as sometimes the audio is a little bit difficult to hear (a lot of telephone conversations), so it doesn't work well when my children are awake. After you've done a few files they also let you correct other people's really bad files (that the proofreaders rejected) and you get 60% of the pay. I did one and I quite enjoyed it as I thought, 'at least I'm not that bad'. For the first few files you do they score them and give you detailed tips on how to improve and it does help a lot, then they score them sporadically. I now know that just because someone says 'there's' they often should have said 'there are' which is something i never picked up on before... basically they seem like a really nice company, very friendly and supportive, but it's definitely more effort than Crisp.

GoodPlaceJanet · 24/05/2019 23:22

Failed part 2 of my Lionbridge exam today after feeling happy at passing part 1. What a massive waste of time and we're really struggling for cash Sad

I've seen you all talking about Crisp can anyone please do me a brief summary of the application process and how long it might take? Sad

smurfmonkey · 24/05/2019 23:47

@GoodPlaceJanet I posted one somewhere on this thread, do a search on my posts and you'll find it Smile

WheelyCote · 25/05/2019 06:13

Morning
I work over time. Todays an overtime day. All day until 8 boooooooooooooooo
but my ola apple iphone 5s i was going to sell on ebay i've removed because I managed to get IOS 12. whatever it is. Gives me more options with projects

Failed with java exam 1st time. Im going to print all the guidelines for everything today and on day off tomorrow just go through them all.
Waiting to start Falcon which looks really good. Just need it to load up with my app phone so i can access.

Have a great day everyone!

reddA · 25/05/2019 08:19

Morning all :) I failed Rattle so that's 9.8 hours wasted according to the report - busted a gut all day yesterday to get the 100 hits in, I'm not retaking it. @GoodPlaceJanet i failed the 3rd Lionbridge test, think I wasted a whole week with them. Crisp is nothing like the Lionbridge/Appen process to join thank god!

Back on it with Crisp today, need to catch up, then I'm away for a few days but hoping to get a few hours in if the WiFi is decent enough.

anxiouswaiting · 25/05/2019 09:06

@BeeMyBaby Thanks for the info on transcribing. After reading it I decided to apply to TakeNote, I failed the language part of the application Blush I can only blame sleep deprivation, I have 2 degrees yet somehow managed to fail because I didn't get the apostrophes right Confused bit embarrassed by that!

Back to the drawing board, think I may have to take a better look into matched betting. I've put it off till now because it feels too complicated. May have to see if I can persuade DH to get involved, he has a very logical brain so perhaps he will be able to make sense of it all.

GoodPlaceJanet · 25/05/2019 09:44

Thanks smurfmonkey and reddA.

Done the crisp test 4 times 16/20 18/20 17/20 17/20. So disheartening when you really feel you've studied the answers. Feeling super disheartened with online working rn. At the risk of sounding like Howard Wolowitz I have a masters degree!! Lol

BeeMyBaby · 25/05/2019 09:47

@anxiouswaiting I have grammarly (although ignore the spelling as it's American) installed on chrome which helps and I also googled the answers for some (once I'd seen it then I understood and have not had any issues since). Is it possible to reapply with a different email address? At least you would be more prepared another time I'm sure. I wasted so much time trying to apply for transcribe me (I think that was the one, I tried a few different companies) they were awful. The pay is bad and they make you do 3 five minute audios of really fast technical speakers and you need to get it over 98% accurate. I spent literally days and days trying. Luckily 5 mins of audio no longer takes me hours to type, plus real transcription tends to have people pausing to breathe.

MrsWombat · 25/05/2019 17:19

Gosh, I've just read this entire thread and passed the Crisp test and applied for Appen. Luckily had my CV handy, as I signed up with PPH a while ago. I've just managed to get a regular admin job through PPH and a few little bits too. Apparently, the going rate for a VA is £25ph. Hmm

I did the Lionbridge test about 2 years ago. Failed the last part a couple of times but kept getting invited back to retake it but gave up in the end.

The youngest starts full-time school in September so I'm looking for extra income to supplement my very part time job.

justtheonethen · 25/05/2019 17:54

Question for crispers- we aren't supposed to announce on slack that we are doing Mod2 are we? I see one person that does but as it's just them I'm assuming we don't have to?

GoodPlaceJanet · 25/05/2019 17:55

Ok I'm done feeling sorry for myself! Re took Crisp another 3 times and finally passed so I'm on the waiting list.

I've also signed up for Appen. Do I just wait for a project to appear then apply to it?

Thanks for all the help Smile

Otterses · 25/05/2019 18:12

@justtheonethen nahhhhh Grin if they ask someone to pop into moderation I reply though.

OP posts:
TwllBach · 25/05/2019 18:25

Hi everyone - is it ok if I pop back on again? I dropped off in February I think, and I've had a pay rise and more responsibility since then so I sort of felt like I didn't have the time to earn on the side, but I still really want to!

I love the sound of take note and crisp... does anyone mind if I share my 20 cogs referral code again? I know when I did last time someone said they didn't trust 20 cogs, but it paid out for me when I did it and I've now earned roughly £30 just through someone using my referral code!

20cogs.co.uk/validate/refer_a_friend/welcome/1376027?keyword=referred

I wonder if anyone knows anywhere I can advertise a bit of social media management? That is my 'extra responsibility' at work and it seems I'm quite good at it, my grand plan is to see if I can expand a bit!

TheCanterburyWhales · 25/05/2019 18:45

I have just passed all the Take Note thingies apart from the actual audio transcription which I haven't done as dp and dd are around and I need to concentrate. I am a sometime court transcriber of audio here in Italy, so I kind of imagined it would be a doddle- but even that first one was unnerving - it was the big clock ticking away in the corner.

Also redone Crisp test- I failed in February- I did it and it said am now on waiting list, so did I pass it? I seem to remember back initially I received something saying "must try harder next time" or something.

MrsWombat · 25/05/2019 19:37

@TwllBach Take a look at People Per Hour. Lots of people looking for social media stuff on there.

WheelyCote · 25/05/2019 20:44

Goodplanet make sure youve applied for Appen agent and not the appen global. I waited a while on appen global until the fab people on here shwed me the right one

TwllBach · 25/05/2019 20:49

Ooh thanks MrsWombat!
