Anyone up for an earn £10 a day challenge this year?

774 replies

Otterses · 02/01/2019 08:06

I was wondering if anyone would like to join me Smile truth be told I really need the support!

Having DS has reduced my savings, and ability to save now that I'm paying for childcare. So my aim this year is to make £3650, or £10 a day which sounds far less terrifying.

I just thought this would be a great idea to share ideas for earning extra money and cheering each other on. Way better than just staring at a spreadsheet.

Soooooo here it goes.

Day One - £33.37/3650

£22.87 matched betting, and £10.61 Leapforce.

@leamaria I don't want to sound like a sales pitch Grin but it is a good idea. I have a colleague who's been off with breast cancer for nearly a year, still isn't ready to return to work, and is really struggling financially. I don't ever want to be in that position Sad

Mine was £18.53 a month for £200,000, £40,000 critical illness cover for me, plus £10,000 for DS.

The cash back goes up to £440 depending on your monthly payment.

Sorry to here about that ottereses. You have to think of the practical side, as morbid as it can be! When someone crashed into me on a roundabout, I was also fine thankfully but it really makes you think what can happen in a split second.

I’ve been looking at life insurance (actually I was prompted by Quidco 😂). I looked for some threads on MN and there were lots of posts telling the OP to get professional advice before taking it out, I haven’t the foggiest where to start.

I’ve emailed 212 today, as I’ve been trying to get through to their chat for a couple of days with no luck. It’s business day 4 for me, and I still can’t withdraw anything Confused Does anyone know if you can withdraw without selling? I wonder if that’s the issue - but I have to have a min of 2 shares with this company to be able to sellSad.

I’ve made 13p through cashback today however 😊

oops I mean otterses.. typing secretly before my boss walks past my office again and realises I have no workGrin

stiltonontoast · 29/01/2019 10:04

@margaritasbythesea I had this yesterday, if your stocks are US or abroad it might take longer because the weekend falls differently.

margaritasbythesea · 29/01/2019 10:07

Thanks stillontoast. I shall be patient!

Out of patience with PA though. I'm stopping checking now. It's a waste of three seconds, multiple times throughout the day.

mamaslave18 · 29/01/2019 10:29

I’m thinking of trying matched betting. How much money do I need to start out with?
I’m trying to raise 3k for some surgery and the survey route is not going well.

Otterses · 29/01/2019 10:38

Hey @mamaslave18 Grin I started with about £50, I'm about £250 up so far, but I haven't been putting an awful lot of effort in to be honest. I'd say 3k is easily manageable!

If you start, check EVERY offer on cash back sites and go through them. That's another huge boost of earning from Matched betting.

2ellenor2 · 29/01/2019 11:17

I started with £120 and didn't find it a problem
I'm now up to £600 profit

GruffalosOldTrousers · 29/01/2019 13:14

Does anyone know if the rates of pay are similar for Appen and Lionbridge please? Applied to both but LB do not allow you to work for both, so I'm wondering which is best to go with.

@Otterses, sorry to hear about the car crash and glad your dh and ds are ok. It shakes you up though. You've got me thinking about life insurance. We have some but haven't looked at it since the kids were born I don't think, so no idea if it's adequate.

@mamaslave18 I started MB woth about £50 and I'm about £70 in profit after about a week so it's certainly enough to start with, although I don't know how long it'll take to get to £3k. Team Profit suggest 2 or 3 months for £1k I think.

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 29/01/2019 13:22

I don't know about LB, but Appen is $14 per hour so just over £10.
I'd already applied for them before i realised that you couldn't do LB too.

Otterses · 29/01/2019 13:32

@GruffalosOldTrousers LB is £9.03

Thank you @SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock and @Otterses Smile

Otterses · 29/01/2019 17:54

You're welcome @GruffalosOldTrousers Smile have you decided what one you're going for?

Had an update from 212 incase anyone has the same issue.. They’ve said I can only withdraw once a trade is closed (presumably unless you sell your shares which I can’t..) Now waiting for them to tell me how I’ll know when a trade is closed Confused

margaritasbythesea · 29/01/2019 18:19

Well, I asked them to sell yesterday and they said I couldn't but today they have sold it without asking again. No luck on chat to find out how to cancel.

I'm chuffed though. The amount covers the cost of an expensive textbook I need!

ChakiraChakra · 29/01/2019 18:52

Otterses - sorry to hear about the car accident, hope all not too shaken up.

Trade 212 share money hit my bank account today :) for those struggling, you need to sell the share (sorry I can't remember how to do that just now) then withdraw the funds. You can withdraw your £1 before then. I've live chatted with them a few times, they've been very helpful - it's worth opening up a live chat on your smartphone then getting on with something else as it can take ages for them to connect you with a person, but they do eventually. I found out the inactive account fee is £9 after 6 months so no panic yet. To close your account you need to email them on [email protected] . Hope that helps

Wee bit early, but I won't be doing much the next few days. Couple of bets left to settle, but my Jan.19 total is ....

£195.74 - matched betting
£244.03 - Leapforce (exchange rates depending)
£165.14 - cash back
£6.87 - surveys
£94.00 - other, ie 212 and gift voucher sake on Zeek

So that's £700.78/£3650 Shock I can't believe that's nearly 20% of my target in nearly a month. And to be totally honest, I haven't put in as much effort as I'd like. Hoping this'll change next month and I'll be able to diversify a bit more.

I hope everyone else smashes their target this month Smile and even if you don't, there's still 334 days to catch up!

I am struggling to cash in my Trade212 shares too. I have a total of three now. I clicked on the one that is unlocked and asked to 'close' it. It is now showing as 'pending'. Do you know how long it is likely to be pending for?

When I click on the other two shares and ask to close them. I get a 'to sell this equity you need to buy it first' message. I don't get it . I thought the share was mine so why are they asking me to buy it. I am totally and utterly confused out of my mind!

Thanks to the poster above for sharing Trade212 email. I have emailed them to ask for help as I couldn't get through on chat earlier.

Can anyone advise?

@leamaria I have looked at Panelbase. It says you have to reach £10 in order to withdraw. Have you managed to reach this easily?

Bbub · 29/01/2019 20:33

Hey all, regarding ohmydosh, anyone been stitched up by one of their offers? I did the 10 lines for £1 and accidentally, somehow without realising, signed up for a syndicate. I dont even know what a syndicate is tbh, but its an ongoing payment thing so i lost £5 before i realised and cancelled.

I feel a bit thick as how can i not have noticed!? I complained to customer service but they weren't having any of it.

2ellenor2 · 29/01/2019 20:36

@Bbub

A lot of them offers are like that. I look them up on trustpilot before doing them as some are nearly impossible to cancel payments on.
I defintely recommend avoiding the Which? offer as I recieved email and post confirmation that this had been cancelled, only for them to take payment the next month and have refused to give it back

BlockRockinBeats · 29/01/2019 21:03

@2ellenor2

Funny you should mention Which? I emailed them to ask for my subscription to be cancelled yesterday. They replied saying that they had no trace of me and could I send them my ref number (i had already included it in the email). So I replied again with my member details today. No answer from them!

Does anyone have a phone number for them?

BlockRockinBeats · 29/01/2019 21:07

@Bbub

I very narrowly avoided getting stung for the £5 per week subscription. It is very sly. When you go to confirm your details the box saying 'ongoing subscription' or something is automatically ticked. You have to untick it and select the 'one off payment' box instead.

I bet LOADS of people have fallen for that one. It is such an unfair trap. I am going to cancel mine now, actually before they sting me!
