Anyone up for an earn £10 a day challenge this year?

Otterses · 02/01/2019 08:06

I was wondering if anyone would like to join me Smile truth be told I really need the support!

Having DS has reduced my savings, and ability to save now that I'm paying for childcare. So my aim this year is to make £3650, or £10 a day which sounds far less terrifying.

I just thought this would be a great idea to share ideas for earning extra money and cheering each other on. Way better than just staring at a spreadsheet.

Soooooo here it goes.

Day One - £33.37/3650

£22.87 matched betting, and £10.61 Leapforce.

Stopit - what about tutoring online? There are often adverts on indeed for tutors for Chinese students etc. I'm not sure how legit these are, but if you have a webcam and stuff I'd image it would be quite easy to set up.

Thanks will look into that.

Otterses · 07/01/2019 08:09

Spent yesterday traveling back home, so did nothing money making wise.

Going to try to set some bets up this evening, so the usual LF and try and set up a bit of a routine. The market research panel also starts today, so it'll be nice to log in and try to remember how I get £100.

I'd like to join but have made nothing so far and have some catching up to do.

Joined prolific academic but haven't been eligible for any studies yet.

Will try to sign up with leapforce and sell some stuff on eBay and gumtree.

I have also been thinking of signing up with a stock photography company to sell photos, and doing some ads on Instagram (it makes me feel a bit tacky but you can make reasonable money doing it if you have enough followers).

Otterses · 08/01/2019 09:37

I'm slacking with updates!

07/01 - £10.61 LF and nothing from MB. Still waiting on bonuses from BetUK and a couple of others to be credited. Attempting my first ACCA offer today so that should be interesting.

The survey panel thing is a bit tedious. You get multiple questions a day that need bloody long answers! But I guess for £100 for 7 days work it's not too much hassle.

I signed up for Lionbridge last night. It's similar to Leapforce and they had openings for Search Engine Evaluators. I know they're reputable, but I'm not sure how much they pay, or if I'd even pass the exam! It's a maximum of 20 hours a week, so fingers crossed 🤞

The survey panel thing has got me interested, I'm going to keep an eye on Angelfish for anything suitable.

£151.28/3650

@CaitlinsYellowSocks the selling stock photos is a great idea! It's a great passive income too Smile

You're a better person than me! I can not physically, mentally or emotionally handle selling on eBay and Gumtree. I always seem to end up with nutters or no shows for buyers. I just don't have the patience for it.

You'll easily catch up on £80 throughout the year Grin what is it they say? It's a marathon, not a sprint!

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 08/01/2019 09:59

Thanks @ChangedNames1000Times! I've had a few bad experiences selling on eBay (mostly items not being delivered by Royal Mail, and me not having tracking/insurance) but on balance it seems to be worth it.

Not sure if my photos are good enough for stock photography but I think it's worth a shot - if you have lots on there and upload new ones regularly you can apparently make a few hundred a month. I love taking photos so it would be good to make some money.

Otterses · 08/01/2019 10:04

That sounds like a fab idea Caitlin - you could maybe look at getting some on mugs, cards etc. (If they're suitable) on a print on demand site. Like Zazzle or something.

I'm so envious. I'm absolutely crap at taking photos.

I've started following this thread. I'm on the cusp of loosing my job and so am looking at any and every way of earning extra pennies.

Thank you to you all for giving me some ideas. I've signed up to a few things and have earned a little from Prolific academic already.

I don't think I have the time to earn an extra £10 daily but every little helps!

Otterses · 09/01/2019 08:06

Hi Starting, I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm in the same horrible boat (likely to lose my job in April, unless someone buys the branch and opts to retain current staff), I'm glad this has given you a few ideas on making extra money. Have you looked into Lionbridge and Leapforce to see if either of those interest you? I've been doing some research and LB seems to be £9 an hour, so about £9500 a year if you work a maximum of 20 hours a week.

I'm child free today, and off work, so I'm going to attempt some more matched betting and try and work out some other ideas this morning. I'll post if I discover anything.

stayathomegardener · 09/01/2019 08:48

What a great idea, I love your enthusiasm.

Anyone know which stock photography site is best?

Otterses · 09/01/2019 10:17

I'm trying to stay enthusiastic stayathome, it may wane as the year goes on.

MB has gone not to plan at all this morning. A site I was using is down, but it's eaten up my deposit Angry I had the perfect qualifier all lined up and everything. Waiting for it to go back online. It's thrown me a bit, it's the first time I've had an issue.

I did have a thought - and I'm too lazy to google - but is plastic jungle still a thing? I have a few gift cards that I'd happily sell on that are just living in my purse. That would be an easy £15 for the day.

OP posts:
Otterses · 09/01/2019 12:15

Well, that's £11 from Zeek and £10.61 from LF! Sold the gift card surprisingly quickly. Just waiting on the money to hit my PayPal account.

BetUK is back up and running, so hopefully I'll be able to lay a £20 free bet later. And need to work out ACCA's today on BetVictor to use a free £10 bet.

ListenLinda · 09/01/2019 13:04

Watching your progress with interest OP! I need to get back to MB, i was doing so well and then life got in the way. With upcoming Mat Leave it would be nice to have a little pot to keep us going

Otterses · 09/01/2019 13:47

I wish I'd known about this when I was on mat leave listenlinda! I was sent off at 33 weeks and wasted so much time twiddling my thumbs waiting for DS to arrive. I think you should go for it.

I'm supposed to be studying till 14:30 (when the horse races start and I can see if I win on the exchange or not 😂) but I keep getting distracted by all the babies in Costa.

OP posts:
CaitlinsYellowSocks · 09/01/2019 14:13

@stayathomegardener I'm going to try Alamy and Shutterstock to start with - I think most of the sites are non-exclusive though. Now worrying my photos aren't good enough though.

Think I might sign up with leapforce and lionbridge too. I've also posted some stuff on gumtree and have had enquiries already - fingers crossed

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 09/01/2019 14:14

The matched betting just sounds too good to be true but I am intrigued

Otterses · 09/01/2019 14:20

Caitlin I would do LOADS of research on matched betting before you get into it. It took me a get few months to give it a try. I really like profit accumulator, it's a free trial too so you can see what you think. But there are loads of other sites out there too that people use, it may take a while to find one that works for you.

If you do want to test the water, without risking money, sign up for cash back with coral, Betfair, etc. Both on Quidco are bet £10 get £20 cashback - so you don't lose anything if you find it's not for you.

I think you're likely your own biggest critic! If it's not too outing post them on here and I'm sure someone will critique the photos for you.

I'd really recommend LF. Even if my contract with the project I'm on is likely ending soon. A lot of the projects are easy money, and a online job with a consistent hourly rate is like gold dust.

I’m late to this, but up for a challenge!

I’m doing a mystery shop tomorrow. Up to £5 to spend at a bookstore and £3 as a fee. I’ll buy one of those £4.99 magazines for the DC that I usually scoff at the price of, and the £3 will go in my jar.

If anyone would like to sign up as a mystery shopper, pm me your email address (I’m normal, honest 😂) and I get 50p (I think) per referral once you complete your first assignment. I’ve been doing them with this company for about 10 years. You often start with smaller assignments, drink in a pub, etc. I often do lunch in a restaurant, supermarkets, high street stores. They do hotel visits, I’ve never been quick enough to bag one of those. Happy to give more info if anyone is interested.

I’m also looking to start matched betting, but I’m slightly overwhelmed. Will spend the next few days researching!

LuluMelons · 09/01/2019 14:45

I'm thinking of doing this but through Forex markets and possibly commodities

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 09/01/2019 14:47

Thank you - I think I will have a look at matched betting and maybe dip a very careful toe into the water.

I am going to have a go with the stock websites and will let you know how I get on. Most of my photos are also on my IG account so possibly a bit outing.

stayathomegardener · 09/01/2019 15:08

Oooh exciting!
Thanks @CaitlinsYellowSocks DD is a student photographer so I was thinking for her, she will be super grateful if it pays off.

stayathomegardener · 09/01/2019 15:09

@WarmHugs I would love to sign up, could you pm me please and I'll send over my email.

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 09/01/2019 15:13

@stayathomegardener Alamy has a deal where students get to keep all their royalties too. There are lots of others (if you google stock photography agencies) but they're two of the biggest and seek to be relatively easy to get started on.

stopitandtidyupp · 09/01/2019 16:18

I miss matched betting I must have made 3-4k in 6 months in the hey day when bookies did offers every day. Unfortunately they got wise

I would agree to research well before you do as it can easily mess up.
