And the newbies who are praised on a leader's page for starting their 'little home based business'?

They'll make a few quid selling to friends and family who want to support their 'business' and this will give them a false sense of success

They will persuade friends to host a 'pamper evening' and will floga few lip balms (cheapest purchase the guests can make) and might even sign someone up. Cue the excited posts and love bombing

A few months later .... Only their mum is still buying anything, FB friends are sick of the endless positive memes, people at the school gate are avoiding her, she's spent loads on products for 'PUPP packs', a green tablecloth with the FL logo on, business cards and has been to two Success Days which cost 35 quid to get in plus petrol and a super early start and her mum having to have the kids AGAIN...

But the top bots presenting at the Success Days seem to Have It All and they started out just like her...

She just needs to keep trying harder, work on her Mindset, stop listening to the negheads who are just jealous haters who want her to fail, and soon, soon, she'll be in car plan and can lease that white Range Rover

In the meantime she wakes up really early to listen to 'trainings' (she's paid for some really good ones, it's an investment into her personal growth and guarantee success ) and in the evenings takes part in webinars and sizzles where everyone is SO positive and lovely (unless you ask a tricky question or tentatively mention that you have made a list of outgoings and it's bigger than the money you've taken in, in which case your upline becomes a bit sharp with you)

Just keep applying the formula and replicating, soon you'll qualify for a reward! Look, your lovely upline is offering a CASH PRIZE for the person in her down line who makes the most sales this month (and therefore makes her the most money)

So she decides to buy quite a lot of products (it's an investment into her business, really, and anyway someone told her to 'be your own best customer' and it will be nice to have something to put on her table at the school fair)

Oh dear someone else won the cash prize.... Never mind, she's got loads of stock in the garage and can make profit on everything she sells, do its all good. It's a shame that the school changed their minds on letting her have a stall, apparently they have a no MLM policy..

BSintolerant · 18/11/2017 12:46

This 'empower other women' battle cry is a load of tripe. The only person you can truly empower is yourself. One way to do this is by walking away from these money-draining mlm schemes.

Be your own best customer, my arse.

cozietoesie · 18/11/2017 12:47

That’s as depressing as all get out, Sponge. Sad

(I can’t take issue with it though.)

Spongebobette · 18/11/2017 12:53

Oh don't worry, it's all FINE because she's decided to give everyone she normally buys Xmas presents for a FL product! Brill idea, she will save money by not having to buy presents as she has all that stock in the garage!
Double win because it's a marketing strategy too! Everyone will love the products and will be new customers in the new year! She'll pop a business card in with each present too

Christmas day..... Happy faces all round

Spongebobette · 18/11/2017 12:57

And her upline keeps posting such lovely comments about her, creating pics with stars and love hearts all round, and the upline has thousands of followers who will see how well she's doing!!! Oh and she called her a 'pocket rocket too!

Spongebobette · 18/11/2017 12:58

(can you tell I'm sitting in my car waiting for a delayed train to arrive and am a bit bored)

🤣

Spongebobette · 18/11/2017 13:05

.........

Her mum bought her an expensive pair of shoes for her birthday!

She knows exactly what to do. She posts a pic of them on FB with the caption ‘so blessed to be able to spoil myself! Love my little home based business and the company I work alongside!’

Hopefully she’ll get some comments and she can say ‘I’ll PM you Hun!!!’

Spongebobette · 18/11/2017 13:11

She gets 8 comments! Yay!

Oh, they are all from her upline and other FBOs

Spongebobette · 18/11/2017 13:13

Her upline posts about an incentive, a fab cruise next year. She quickly puts the post on her own page

'am definitely going on this cruise next year! Who's joining me??? PM me Huns!'

Spongebobette · 18/11/2017 13:20

She still only has one person in her downline. She should encourage and empower and recognise her.....

She gives her the cheapest bottle of Prosecco she can find plus a card saying how proud she is of her for smashing her business.

Her downline takes a photo of the card and a glass of Prosecco and posts it with 'being rewarded just for doing my job! That never happened in my 9-5! I have the most amazing and inspirational mentor!'

She likes the post and her upline likes and shares the post

So much positivity..... Maybe her downline will recruit someone on the back of this? Or sell something??

cozietoesie · 18/11/2017 14:14

I guess to ‘garage-qualified’, you should add ‘Christmas-qualified’?Sad

fitgirl26 · 18/11/2017 14:15

@Spongebobette - this is starting to sound like the plot of a book (obviously not marketed through Usborne) 😂

Peaheadz · 18/11/2017 14:20

It’s all very sad. She is chasing something that she has a very remote chance of achieving. Sad

Hopefully she doesn’t lose too much.

spanfan · 18/11/2017 14:20

The lives from Milan and OG are cringey. It feels like the Emperor's New Clothes.

If you keep saying it's real, it becomes real.

Mr Lipbot has just waxed lyrical about going across a stage in front of 5k people.

It looks like 1000 max, and they aren't watching, and it looks like half of them are going across too.

And it cost them money to attend.

Ffs

Spongebobette · 18/11/2017 14:30

Pea you know I am making this up, right?

But it is based on things I have seen

DoratheExplorer17 · 18/11/2017 14:38

Who's Thang Bot? Did they previously go by another name?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 18/11/2017 14:43

The trouble is, Sponge, that ‘real-life’ can end up imitating pastiche. Or muddying it at any rate. Sad

Sometimes, I hear real stories and I think........... (and vice versa.)

SSDGM · 18/11/2017 14:45

I think she was Bradfordbot too.

Yes, it’s very cringey. Walking across a stage is not being bloody recognised.

Toobusytowee · 18/11/2017 14:48

Does anyone know anything about Stella and Dot? Any experience of being in it? I need to talk to you please. Confidentially.

Spongebobette · 18/11/2017 14:54

Yes indeed Cozie

What happens next to my fictional bot?

Perhaps someone sends her a link to Botwatch or Timeless Vie and she sees the light

Or perhaps she sells a few more products and keeps on going, eyes fixed on her Goals Board, watching how well her upline is doing and believing that she can achieve the same if only she has the right mindset

Or perhaps she realised she's actually lost money after months of spending every waking moment 'working her business' and leaves FL..... But what's this? She's found another company with 'great ethics', 'amazing support' and decides to join that one as it's in 'pre-launch' and us about to 'hit momentum'. Obviously the reason she didn't do well in Forever Living was that the market was saturated.
This time she's getting into the business early, so she'll be in a great position!! Doesn't matter that they only have 4 products and they don't seem to be legal to sell in the UK (YET!!! UK registration will be v soon)

cozietoesie · 18/11/2017 15:39

I guess it depends on whether she has any assets left? Sad

Peaheadz · 18/11/2017 16:01

Spongebobette
I am aware that this is made up but it is true for lots of people. I know that I spent money on training and development. I was sucked in and kept hoping that I would break through.

However all the top bots are still working so it isn't all it seems.

BSintolerant · 18/11/2017 16:27

I've yet to meet a bot who has retired because network marketing has enabled them to do so.

Forever Living goes on about your so-called business being willable - big deal. I'm sure they came up with that gem because it sounds impressive if you're easily pleased and speak basic legalese.

I could write a Will bequeathing you my grandmother's false teeth (to be held in trust by my executors upon your attaining the age of 21). Trouble is, I'd have to dig her up first. Any takers? Grin

cozietoesie · 18/11/2017 16:56

Pea

I don’t think that anyone denies that there are a few people - a very few - who make money through MLM - but you have to ask yourself ‘Where does it come from?’. It doesn’t self - generate. It generally comes from the hopes and dreams of the ‘lower orders’ (and their ccs, and mother’s/aunty’s savings, or their husband’s J.O.B etc etc etc.)

Peaheadz · 18/11/2017 17:20

I know. That's why that's why no one seems to have retired and is working harder and harder. They need to keep up the pretence.
