I'm claiming from barclays at the moment, in the region of £1300. I sent off my 1st letter claiming and was sent back a standard 'we're sorry you have a complaint' letter asking for 4 weeks to look into it. I ignored this and stuck to the timetable I had asked for in my letter (14 days to reply) then sent my 2nd letter. They had til the 10th April to refund the chrges. Today I've received another standard letter saying they're looking into it and will reply by 24th April. bloody cheek.

Do I just ignore them then and issue court letter after 10th April or do I wait til the 24th to see what they say? From what I've read about Barclays on the websites, they may make me a reduced offer after the 24th, which I will reject anyway. So shall I carry on regardless?

thanks. the money includes the 8% interest but not the statement fees or the court costs. So do I just add that onto the total so far when/if I do take it to court?

Saw this and just wanted to pop in to wish you all good luck and to say, stick with it, it's an absolute pita and can be incredibly stressful, but you will win.

hi, I've just recieved my 6 years worth of statements from natwest. I've added up the uppaid charges but some just say charges and range from £6 -£12. have no idea what they are for. Should I add them on or not? I'm thinking add all charges and then hope they will make a reasonable offer. It stands at about £1800 at the mo and waiting for statements from 2 other accounts. Any advice? Thanks

Got a letter from Barclays today offering me £875. I wanted £1225. What would anyone here do? Shall I accept just to get it over with? Trouble is I am very overdrawn at Barclays and I was hoping to put the money back into my 2 accounts in preparation for eventually moving accounts and closing Barclays down. For the sake of £350 is it worth it? I am planning to get my wages paid into the Smile account I have with dh and then gradually pay back the Barclays overdrafts and then close the accounts. Any advice?

I claimed from First Direct using the draft letters from Moneysavingexpert.com Found it very simple: First Direct paid up really quickly, explained how they'd reached the figure they offered 'without prejuidice' (I'd added in 2 things which I didn't know what they were) and even added in one charge since I'd written the letter. They didn't threaten to close my accounts (my fear) and were generally excellent. Do go for it if you can.
