ExpatMrs · 08/04/2017 15:59

Just came across a good few MNers talking about it on another thread. I don't even know what it is but from the jist of the convo, there's good money to be made from having a couple of hours a day to do it... I have those hours!!
Can anyone enlighten me please?

But I agree that horse racing does seem to be the most common event happening, to allow quick turnovers.

MaidOfStars · 15/04/2017 16:05

ItsAll Have you started getting reload offers from your single bookie?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/04/2017 16:07

No, but I only signed up yesterday Grin (I can see various promos on the site, but I'm staying away from those)

DangerousMouse · 15/04/2017 16:22

Maid have you started doing offers from bookies which aren't the initial offer? (does that even make sense?!)

CalmItKermitt · 15/04/2017 16:29

Would it be worth going for odds of around the same - e.g. 5.0 - for everything? Rather than lower odds on qualifiers than snr? Surely that difference in odds is one of the things that might tip a bookie off that you're MBing?

edengarden123 · 15/04/2017 16:31

I've just done my first free bet from coral (I had to email them to get the free bets). It's just become glaring obvious how slow and steady this is going to be for me. I put 100 quid in bet fair and most of my money is now tied up. So it's a good thing I didn't sign up to more than a couple two or three bookmakers

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/04/2017 16:39

Kermitt I think the low odds are to minimise your losses, and the high odds are to maximise your profits. No reason you can t P!At around with them though. Re gubbing I'd guess most punters would take a greater risk on free bets?

Eden same here. I can't really afford to do anymore until all of my bets are cleared, ideally I want to take money out of the exchange to cover my next sign up, rather than putting more in.

DangerousMouse · 15/04/2017 16:44

How long did it take for Betfred's free £30 to be credited? I want to get on with it!!

MaidOfStars · 15/04/2017 17:01

My free Betfred balance took nearly a day to show up.

Spookle · 15/04/2017 17:13

My Betfred was in about 10 minutes Mouse

I've done my 3rd sign up this morning and my qualifier match has just finished with a loss of 31p so just waiting for the free bet to arrive. That can be up to 24 hours but I'm happy to take it easy and keep reading notes.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/04/2017 17:13

£14.86 up after 4 free £5 bets, and mostly through the exchange. Feeling much happier about the whole process now.

Am wondering how often to mug bet? I have some money burning a hole in my pocket at the bookies...

HeavenlyEyes · 15/04/2017 17:19

no you need to do lower odds for qualifying bets to minimise your loss on those. Just check T&Cs to make sure you meet the requirements, it can be odds of 2.0 or above for example.

CalmItKermitt · 15/04/2017 18:18

Yeah I understand Heavenly - but since we're talking pennies, is it worth making a few pence more loss by doing odds of, say, 5ish for everything rather than risk bookies spotting the differences in odds and potentially being tipped off that you're MBing?

MaidOfStars · 15/04/2017 18:27

I've seen reccomendations to really mix up betting, including:
Not depositing max value of free bet value.
Depositing/betting more than necessary to qualify for free bet.
Betting at short odds on a free bet.
Mixing stake values around.

AllllGooone · 15/04/2017 18:31

Im confused. Have my first free bet to use, need to bet £20 according to save the student calf, but they're on as 4x£5 bets so how can I bet £20?x

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/04/2017 18:33

Make the same bet 4x (make sure the odds stay the same)

You can also do 4 separate bets, it's just a wee bit more work, but less obvious IMO...

Redactio · 15/04/2017 18:41

Been doing matched betting for a few years. The early few months are the most profitable as you do the sign ups (£1000 easy). My tip is to do the low value sign ups first (just in case you fuck up), then move on to the higher value bookies. Bet365 has the most value, but save that to last.
Don't forget games sites like Heart, Jackpot Joy etc, different skill set but still free money.

Whisky2014 · 15/04/2017 18:52

I need help. I'm getting my partner to make a spreadsheet and we are calculating profit. But...the one I mentioned earlier about the horse making me 19 profit...doesn't seem so and I don't know why. I used a £20 free bet and I backed @6.5. I laid at 5.5 which was £20.18 and the liability was £90.83. I won it at the bookies which gave me £110 on in my account but it also means I lost at betfair which is £111...so looks like I didn't win anything at all?

Laughsandgiggles · 15/04/2017 19:03

Whisky I'm pretty sure you only lose the liability on Betfair not the stake. That will give you the £19 profit.

Whisky2014 · 15/04/2017 19:05

Are you sure? I thought you lose both

MaidOfStars · 15/04/2017 19:05

No, you lost £90.83 at Betfair.

The stake at Betfair is not your money. It is the back bet stake from someone else

Frouby · 15/04/2017 19:09

I think you laid at the wrong odds whiskey. It should have been closer to the 6.5. So 6.4 rather than 5.5.

Don't rely on me tho. I haven't even started yet. Just signed up to profit accumulator and haven't even been able to watch the training video yet because of the Easter weekend.

MaidOfStars · 15/04/2017 19:10

No.

At Betfair, you are laying (promising to cover the payout) on a bet that someone else makes. The stake value you enter is the stake value that you want that someone else to put up for you to lay against.

If you win at the exchange, you as the bookmaker take that stake and don't have to pay anything out.
If you lose at the exchange, you as the bookmaker return that stake and pay out the liability. The stake is not your money to 'lose'.

MaidOfStars · 15/04/2017 19:12

I think you laid at the wrong odds whiskey
I think Whiskey hit upon a arb opportunity and took it.

Whisky2014 · 15/04/2017 19:12

So apparently I'm £64.75 up!!!
