I'm on my phone so it's a bit hard but can someone set up the next thread?

This was Toobusy's excellent summation we should start the new thread with:

The issues we have with MLMs are-

  • people don't make money in them but they are told they will.
  • people put a lot of time and effort and their dreams into these schemes only to have it not work.
  • when it doesn't work they are led to believe it is their own fault.
  • attraction marketing - ie people bring bad things on themselves, even plane crashes and floods. You can have anything you want just by 'being positive'.
  • fake it until you make it bollocks.
  • the legal health claims made for the wampum being sold.
  • vulnerable and desperate people targeted to buy products and join the scheme.
  • the personality takeover of new recruits (hence the term 'bots') into the inanely smiling, meme-posting, emulate-my-wonderful-lifestyle bot who will defriend friends and family if they disagree with the MLM.
  • the fake smiley 'family' that are other bots that will turn on you and bully you when you leave their MLM.
  • the sneery dislike of people with jobs and the assertion that people who have fulfilling careers that are well paid with holidays, sick pay, free training, expenses, spare time, pension are worthless and not as good as a scheme where you will lose money, have no spare time, no pension, no sick pay, no expenses.
  • the blind faith that, even when presented with all the above facts and supporting evidence, bots still think MLM is a good idea because they see people who say they are rich through it, clutching massive cheques.
  • the whole cult aspect of mind control and some very dubious methods of making people comply in these schemes.
  • the ridiculous arguments that are presented by MLM adherents that are just plain wrong e.g. It's not a pyramid scheme because the person below me can make more than me, all companies are pyramid schemes, pyramid schemes are illegal so this one must be ok as it hasn't been shut down, the MLM is in lots of countries therefore it must be ok if those governments have accepted it, if you disagree with MLMs it is because you failed at one yourself, you can't understand MLM unless you have been in one yourself.
emmajones95 · 22/04/2016 17:10

Yes they have to put £600 of orders through , which of course they will have done if they've earned £536.24 in commission lol. They will have put £2000 through, and if I'm not mistaken £2000 is more than £600??

emmajones95 · 22/04/2016 17:21

So yeah, that article is rubbish. Also, can I just throw something out there before you all drown in your own venom? Are you sure all these companies are the same? It's just that I spent about £100 on my last MLM venture, which was quickly and easily recouped. I didn't go to any training sessions, I didn't get bullied for leaving, I didn't spend any more money, no impossible demands were made of me, no friends disowned me. I just haven't seen the things you are referring to, and I'm talking from first-hand personal experience.

cozietoesie · 22/04/2016 17:26

I agree, Twunk. The summation could go in the next OP. Smile

cozietoesie · 22/04/2016 17:30

'Only punks hold skunks'. Grin I know that's not literal but it still makes me laugh.

Merclady · 22/04/2016 17:33

Here we go again ...yawn

Melaw21 · 22/04/2016 17:40

I have never fallen off a ladder emma, but it doesnt mean it hasnt happened to others. What is your (agressive/defensive) point anyway? Shouldnt you be at some shizzle or happy clapping event somewhere? Oh... My apologies, you are not in a mlm now are you?

So, are you retired and living off your mlm residuals now then?

Melaw21 · 22/04/2016 17:42

I know merc! I have this weird sense of dejavu too....

emmajones95 · 22/04/2016 17:44

No comment to the failed attempt at maths then lol.

Toobusytowee · 22/04/2016 17:57

Emma, you may have a point there. That poor Jamberry woman has spent £2000 and only got £500 back. She is about £1500 in debt. She'll have bought the stock hoping to sell it on. I doubt she's sold that many stickers to real customers.

My Jamberry bot has bought loads of samples to send out. And she goes to weekly meetings which must be quite a drive away because she calls them 'road trips'. She won't be making a profit but I bet when she gets a small cheque for spending all that money on samples she will think she's earning money.

throwingpebbles · 22/04/2016 18:00

Well I am sure the person who wrote that blog post will be along to comment at some point emma , until then, it's hardly just us saying these things, will throw you some handy links to read through shortly

throwingpebbles · 22/04/2016 18:03

toobusy you missed out the cost of paying for a website, paying for incentives and giveaways and free samples, paying to boost Facebook and Twitter posts....

That's just a starter. So ease off on the "you're all just jealous" cliched nonsense as it makes for a pretty tedious series of posts.

emmajones95 · 22/04/2016 18:13

But I thought the poor lady had no money? She couldn't even afford the cost of the £69 kit, remember?? Where on earth did she get £2000 to spend on product to have in stock that she can't sell??? Lol what a load of shit you come out with when someone points out that you can't add up! Why don't you all get a life and leave people to live theirs? Considering these companies are so evil and awful and corrupt they're doing very well to still be going, aren't they? And I, and many others, make decent money from this type of work, thank you very much.

emmajones95 · 22/04/2016 18:14

Bloody hell lolol - if you want tedious posts just read back all your drivel!

cozietoesie · 22/04/2016 18:18

So - who is starting the new thread then?

throwingpebbles · 22/04/2016 18:27

If you are making good money why do you care what we say???

GreenGoblin0 · 22/04/2016 18:58

Emma I am confused - in your post about the 4 MLMS you have left, you told us that

"I didn't make anything with Herbalife or Oriflame. I was about 18 at the time. I'm 40 now. I was completely incapable of doing it at the time, and the people who recruited me should have known that. As you say there are plenty of sharks in MLM as there are in ANY business and indeed in ANY area of life!!

Betterware was great for me at the time - got me out which was what I needed. I just did a couple of hours a day delivery and collecting brochures and made a bit of pocket money really. My husband was in full time work so it gave me something to do in the mornings really as I couldn't function in an office environment at the time due to anxiety.

Younique is a completely saturated market, which is why (as I said earlier) I wish these companies would cap the number of distributors. I made whatever the commission is on around £1800 in sales, which is all I sold. I run 2 other businesses so it was very part time and mostly to get cheap and free makeupThe company is a disgrace though - not for me!"

so where exactly did you make decent money?
Herbalife and Oriflame you made no money . you admit you were too young and shouldn't have been recruited

Better ware you made "pocket money"

younique you made commission on £2000 sales- which is how much? and then you left because you don't like the way you operate.

Sorry I just don't get it, from what you have said you've had a pretty poor experience from the 4 MLMS you have joined and left, ok so Betterware got you out of the house. where's the decent money?

GreenGoblin0 · 22/04/2016 18:59

should be "they operate"

cozietoesie · 22/04/2016 19:12

What I like about these threads is that we're all individuals with separate experiences and separate views - although perhaps not on the essentials of this matter. If I were to make a mistake (and that's an 'if') I would expect to be pulled up on it and to acknowledge it frankly. I doubt I would be castigated for it. After all, I post here without obligation and for no reward.

That's part of what free commentary is all about. Smile

cozietoesie · 22/04/2016 19:14

And I've just finished all the organic mature cheddar. Oh Me.
