If so, a cheque for $5000 is only about £3500 - that's not much for a husband and wife team / 2 sister team (both "real" examples seen on photos) to share is it?

Especially when they've probably forked out double that on this trip!

Remember that the 'giant cheques' are just for photos. We used to have a plasticised one - supplied by our bank if I recall - that we could fill in with marker and then wipe clean afterwards. Real money went by bank transfer.
