Sorry if last post was rambly but am on my phone... 😬

throwingpebbles · 12/04/2016 16:25

it is nothing like choosing whether to shop at asda/ Tesco / waitrose based on which loyalty scheme you like best....

look at the adverts to sign up. They are encouraging people to "redirect their spending" into this scheme on the hope of earning fairly substantial amounts of money in the future. people aren't buying their yazoo from LTW because it is more convenient or whatever or because they prefer the logo, they are buying it because they believe that if they stockpile yazoo and persuade their friends to do the same then they can slowly climb the pyramid ranks and earn money from having many underneath them in the pyramid, who in turn are all 'redirecting their spending' on the hope of earning my recruiting more people underneath them.....

*I say 'redirect' spending but in reality, looking at the product line, I suspect many will feel forced to spend more than they would ordinarily or purchase things they wouldn't normally chose to purchase, in order to meet the monthly requirements.

Regarding the DSA Anyone know what 'prospective member' means?

stopfaffing · 12/04/2016 16:41

Probably means "not a member" as in, I too am a prospective member of the DSA Grin over my dead body lol.

throwingpebbles · 12/04/2016 16:49

"Would like to be /trying to become a member" of...

and obviously the DSA is just a gang of MLM top brass so hardly a reassuring confirmation that everything is above board

Toobusytowee · 12/04/2016 17:05

Sorry about my message being repeated earlier. At that point I had not slept after a night shift and was a bit tired. I've had a nap now so I can limp on a bit longer.

Toobusytowee · 12/04/2016 17:09

Regarding LTW being a prospective member of the DSA, I assume the DSA are trying to work out if they are a pyramid scheme. Considering the DSA have had members that were closed down for being pyramid schemes, they don't seem very good at spotting them. It will be interesting if membership is denied.

smiinky · 12/04/2016 17:58

Maybe it means, 'we're not entirely sure we can get away with this one yet, but lets see how many punters they can fleece before anyone catches up with us.'

cozietoesie · 12/04/2016 18:31

I have just been watching a recruitment video and - apart from leaving me feeling incredibly pointy-headed - it left me with the feeling that even on the basis of their declared finances, there is a very very large proportion of their 'funds' going elsewhere than the distributors. Anyone good at sums? Smile

It's not a cooperative venture that's for sure.

MinecraftyMum · 12/04/2016 18:33

do you know if they stock/warehouse the products? Or is this a dropshipping arrangement where they dont handle the goods at all? Can they ensure that supply is guaranteed on all orders placed?

Yes, they have 3 centres and they do buy and stock the products themselves.

Occasionally things do go out of stock (individual items) - browsing the first 4 pages or so of cleaning things on the website (50 ish items) , there are two marked out of stock. But the website seems to be updated pretty quickly as the stock returns.

I haven't heard of anyone not getting an item once they've ordered it (out of about 400 members on the group page i'm in).

MinecraftyMum · 12/04/2016 18:37

The majority of the profit will be going to the Directors Cozie. It's not a Plc. Where else would the profit be going?

A former Forever Living manager has come forward to tell her story - part one. She's amazing Grin

cozietoesie · 12/04/2016 18:42

A very brave woman.

throwingpebbles · 12/04/2016 18:54

Great blog post last. Much respect to her for sharing her story but more importantly for reflecting on what she was involved in and having the awareness and courage to admit she had made a mistake and to pull out

chuckingstones · 12/04/2016 19:04

For anyone thinking about LTW let me give an analogy (it may also be able to read across to other MLMs).

Imagine you're in an arcade and choose to play on a coin pusher machine (one of my favourites!). You choose a machine to play on and see that there's a £5 in the middle, you aim to get that £5 note out by playing lots of 2p pieces.

So you plough in lots of 2ps and you can see the £5 note coming closer to the edge, but it's taking a while, the owners of the machine though encourage you to keep playing and to focus on the goal of winning the £5 note.

A couple of your friends walk by and wonder what you're up to. You tell them about this brilliant game where you can get £5 if you try hard enough. You point to two more £5 at the back of the coin pusher which can be theirs. The owners of the machine are excited that you've got two people to help you win and promise to give you back 10% of any of the coins your friends put in.

After a while the note gets closer and closer then, "plop!" down it comes - hurrah! You're £5 richer! You and your friends celebrate (#successday), seeing you get the £5 spurs them to get their £5 note so they plough more 2p pieces into the machine, but it's not coming fast enough so they get their friends involved (cue excited owners and more 10% promises!).

Because of your £5 success you don't initially realise that you've actually ploughed £10 worth of 2p pieces in. So to ensure you make your money back and more, you encourage your friends to put more 2p pieces into the machine and that maybe they should get more people involved (the owners are pleased and offer you 5% back on any money your friends' friends put in!).

Eventually you're allowed to play on bigger machines with bigger notes in, but you realise you still need your friends' help, so whilst they're encouraging their friends to get £5 notes, you're encouraging them to help you get that lovely looking £10 note.

You still get some of the 2p pieces back (they fall out the front of the machine and you plough them back into it), but look at the corners of the coin pusher, there are little slots where alot of the 2p pieces are falling into and all that money goes to the owners.

If you get alot of friends to help you "win" the cash prize, you actually get it very quickly, plus you realise that because you're not having to plough as much money in and your friends are, you're actually making a profit - yippee! But you know that all the people who've helped you make a profit are actually losing money still - but you still encourage they to keep on playing because they can be just like you!

So yes, you can make money, but there are a hell of alot of people you've directly or indirectly got involved in playing who aren't making money. Some will give up before they make a profit, some couldn't afford to play in the first place but liked the idea they might win. All the while the owners are sitting back and smiling as for very little input (they pay for the upkeep of the machines and some advertising) they're now scraping off hundreds if not thousands of 2p pieces and only have to drop in the odd £5 or £10 note every so often.

It's a long read, but worth it I think as this is pretty much how it all happens.

Slots and tables are nearly always 'set' in the house's favour. Smile

Twoodle · 12/04/2016 19:45

I've been invited to a friends launch party for her skincare business. Oh joy. She's previously tried Forever but funnily enough didn't make any money Hmm and now she's in Tropic. There is no way I'm going to the launch but as I quite like her I'm trying to think how to say no to the enthusiastic email she's sent. How about 'sorry but this just isn't my thing as I don't agree with the Tropic MLM business model as I have heard of so many people being left out of pocket'.

Help with the wording please.

cozietoesie · 12/04/2016 19:49

I usually find that a straightforward 'Sorry, not my thing' is readily accepted in family and friend circles?

Twoodle · 12/04/2016 20:06

Actually Cosie that's a great idea, I've been let off the hook before at various home selling parties (not always mlm) by the host saying 'don't worry I know it's not your thing'.

I'll go with the short answer and only elaborate if she asks why not.

Toobusytowee · 12/04/2016 20:26

Are any of you interested in an excellent opportunity? I've decided to set up my own MLM. This one is different though. I've decided to be truthful. I haven't decided on the wampum yet though. I'm open to ideas, although it doesn't really matter what it is.

throwingpebbles · 12/04/2016 20:30

That's my approach too now twoodle. I only say anything more about my thoughts on it if they specifically ask me to

Motorheadmum · 12/04/2016 21:24

It's hard when people you like set up in an MLM and invite you to their launch. I've had a few lately, unfortunately one was too pushy and I had to tell her. The others not so bad. I just try to ignore any emails/ FB invites etc

bearbehind · 12/04/2016 21:24

I've just been reading more blah blah blah about the Forever Global Rally in SA so decided to google to see what hotel they are staying in- OMFG - if it is that Warmbaths place then goodness knows how they are going to 'fake it till you make it'- it's not exactly the holiday destination to make others think you are living the dream.

Can't wait to see the editing of the photos.

smiinky · 12/04/2016 21:28

Well they like cardboard cutouts of yachts dont they, maybe they've made a few luxury hotel scenes for people to pose infront of.
