But inlove up thread you claimed you worked 15-19 hours a day? Now it is 3 days a week?

sminkypink · 19/02/2016 08:39

Meh I'd be very happy if multi level marketing were banned. I'm not surprised that China has banned it and that other countries have restricted it. Yes I can accept that people have different reasons for getting involved, it affects some people badly and some not at all (apart from a small dent in the bank account). I can see that it's not a 'business'and I don't think it's transparent what it actually is. It's a game. It's got more in common with gambling than any business I've heard of and it comes with a lot of the same risks. Except it seems nowhere near as regulated as gambling.

throwingpebbles · 19/02/2016 08:41

I agree sminky. And anyone making money has to be making in st the expense of many many people who are losing money. That's the nature of the beast.

sminkypink · 19/02/2016 08:41

Just like gambling a tiny amount make money, most lose a little, most people have a flutter and then lose interest, or dabble here and there for fun and a few get into debt. But it is not a business.

darceybussell · 19/02/2016 08:45

My good friend has joined an MLM recently and is suddenly liking lots of local businesses' Facebook pages. I understand why she would do that. However, she is also liking loads and loads of other MLMers too. She liked an Ariix bot's page last week which gave me the shivers! Is she doing this so that she can order swap with them? Or is she going to try and poach them for her own MLM? Or is there another reason? I'm a bit puzzled!

sminkypink · 19/02/2016 08:53

I'm not really interested in listening to individuals justifying their activities, they can carry on, but it's not gonna change my broad based view of what I've seen, but Ariix does scare me. Because Scientology style mindsetting is dangerous, it can cause real harm. Two of my SIL are prime mlm targets (both SAHM to small kids with health problems), so we've had words. One has already been involved in one mlm.

RebeccaMumsnet · 19/02/2016 09:13

Morning all,

Inlove is a long standing MNetter as she claims and we would like to ask everyone to remain civil to one another and not troll hunt.

We would also like to remind you all to keep anything personal off of the boards, screenshots of names, photos or anything identifiable, including the use of initials to refer to individuals will be removed. We are happy to allow these conversations to run for now as long as you are posting within the Talk Guidelines

Thanks all for the reports.

long time lurker saying hi

Annie65 · 19/02/2016 09:28

Morning everyone, well, I see another eventful night/morning while I have been asleep. I too am not really interested in these bots who tell us "how saintly" they are with their"business" and how they never break the rules, yawn. They seem too keen to explain this.I suspect "they" are one person, coming on here shit-stirring and trying to recruit. My Fl bot is going on the "success day" tomorrow. She is catching the train down to London today and stopping in a Hotel. More out-goings. I know she has got a promation, a family member says "she is doing really well, she isnt far off Manager". I think she has just reached "Supervisor", guess the photos tomorrow will tell. She has been in it since last April.

MrGrumpy01 · 19/02/2016 09:47

veno thank you for coming back.

Thank you also for honestly saying that you work 15-19hr days and do back to back Skype calls. Too often we (general) are told we can earn thousands working 10hrs a week but your story and that of many others show that the reality is very different.

So the reality is unless you see it is a full time job (and more) it is unlikely to bring in the big money.

This isn't criticism, but it does highlight the reality.

Just to add do you ever have time to 'switch off' and just have down time? the bigger your team, the more people relying on you, the more time it takes.

MrGrumpy01 · 19/02/2016 09:48

Sorry vego

Toobusytowee · 19/02/2016 09:52

Vegodoll, can I ask how you were allocated an upline? Are they the closest to you by address or did you get to select from a list? Or was it an already successful person in the company?

Motorheadmum · 19/02/2016 09:52

Hi vego I am one of the people who had an awful experience with an MLM, my experiences I have shared on here. I think everyone commenting is just trying to see your points of view through your eyes. Most feedback on here has been from people like myself who have found them at best a con, at worst something that is akin to a cult sucking money out of you.

CheekySmile · 19/02/2016 09:57

Thank you to those currently involved in an MLM company for coming forward, we've long wanted someone to come and engage in discussion and I appreciate it is difficult to join this thread with such a differing opinion to most others here.

I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts about the late are story published on the TV post

CheekySmile · 19/02/2016 09:59

Gah latest story...

Patzy85 · 19/02/2016 10:00

It appears that any current bots (for want of a better word) who have appeared on these threads are not with Forever Living.

It seems to me that here in the UK at this present moment that FL is the main cult #changinglives that gets people in to debt and such. Sucking people in. Women feeling the urge to wear suits during the school run etc. IT Works and Arrix could be the same here soon, although I really think these threads are having an impact on people making the decision to go for it.

There are many others that seem much more innocent and that the bots work in a very different way i.e. Not a #bossbabe.
Body Shop and Scentsy for example, well the people who do these don't seem to change as a person IYKWIM.

Not all MLMs seem to be a complete CULT. It seems the bots defending themselves may not be involved in these types.

throwingpebbles · 19/02/2016 10:04

Yes. I don't think any of us were being mean actually. Unless "being mean" = asking some perfectly fair but challenging questions.
Most of us have seen people lose money in one of these MLMs, or witnessed them lying about their success (whether individuals we know very well e.g. Family members, or those very prominent "up lines" who are all giving the impression they have bought houses that are clearly rented)

I totally accept that there are shades of grey in terms of both the different MLMs and many 1000s of bots in each of them. However, it's the overall picture that matters. And the overall picture is pretty grim.

sminkypink · 19/02/2016 10:12

I agree Patzy85 but what they all seem to be is not an actual business but a game with very few winners and a lot of losers.
I'm not going to be mean to the 'bots' posting on this thread. I think they're pretty brave too post here, considering the reception they know they'll get. I still think mlm is a con. I still think it's got more in common with gambling than any genuine business.

throwingpebbles · 19/02/2016 10:16

Also , the reason why I am sceptical is that we have people come and comment on Timeless Vie/Bot watch claiming they are totally worth ethical/would never do any of those things we mention. Yet a quick visit to their Facebook pages showed them to be stuffed full of ridiculous medical claims and promises of "uncapped" income without impacting on family life......

Eyespying · 19/02/2016 10:19

It beggars belief that an anonymous person is allowed to come on these threads pretending moral and intellectual authority by reciting the controlling narrative of (what all the independent evidence demonstrates to be) a blame-the-victim cultic racket. Predictably, when challenged, this anonymous person poses as an innocent victim who has only achieved success in 'NuSkin' through hard work.

Meanwhile back in the adult world of quantifiable reality, excluding the insignificant minority of shills, which this person claims to be one of, the hidden overall net-loss churn rate for participation in the so-called 'NuSkin MLM Income Opportunity', has been effectively 100%.

Currently, the 'NuSkin' cultic racket is churning in excess of 2 millions individuals annually around the globe i.e. more than 20 millions individuals per decade. Anyone being recruited into the 'NuSkin' racket should be aware that it could quite literally get closed down over-night, because its bosses have also made the foolish mistake of selling shares in their dissimulated criminal enterprise on Wall St.
