Nobody sent out a 'bot signal'. I've been reading your thread for a while. Human being behind this screen, stop trying to depersonalise me.

Have you ever stopped to consider why so many women are turning to MLMs? We're living in a country where so many of us have lost jobs due to public sector cuts. I didn't give up my job to do this, it gave up me. I used my redundancy money to start the other business, I ploughed money made from the MLM back into it to build it. And learnt loads of useful stuff from the MLM training which was transferrable to the other one. Between them, they keep me afloat.

You people want to turn that into something shameful.

throwingpebbles · 18/02/2016 23:36

On the contrary, what concerns me is precisely the way these opportunities are presented as the "only option" when that is so far from the truth

Is likening us to a pack of wolves not dehumanising?

Inlovewithastrictmachine · 18/02/2016 23:41

I didn't say it was the only option. It's one that's working for me at the moment though.

BSintolerant · 18/02/2016 23:43

Evening FL! We fart in your general direction. Your mother was an hamster and your father smelt of elderberries (all said in an ourrrrrrageous French accent). Fetchez la vache!

I shudder to think what other 'business' Inlovewithastrictmachine might be in, if the 'stuff' he/she has learnt in an 'MLM' can be transferred to it.

throwingpebbles · 18/02/2016 23:43

Well that was what your previous post was effectively implying!

Inlovewithastrictmachine · 18/02/2016 23:45

I've posted on that thread Throwing Pebbles

I'm happy doing what I'm doing, I don't want to start match betting or copy writing.

throwingpebbles · 18/02/2016 23:46

Not suggesting that you do! But certainly there are many other options that peddling over-priced gloop (or what ever mystery product you sell....)

I've name changed. I've been on Mumsnet since 2008.
I don't do Avon, but if one of your mates was an Avon lady would you give her hell?
My Mum had all sorts of parties when I was younger. Tupperware parties, Oriflame, jewellery. It's NOT so sinister. Neither is what I do / sell.

throwingpebbles · 18/02/2016 23:54

I dunno, I've got a pretty clear evening tomorrow, I might masquerade as a bot and have some fun with you all GrinGrin

Think I have got the hang of the basic "script" now ....

("It's all those other ones. It's not me, I'm totally normal I just worked hard and acted ethically and the money started rolling in......I know all the others lie about their earnings, and about the products...but not me, never me" )

LastAnni · 18/02/2016 23:55

Just place marking... Ignore me...

throwingpebbles · 18/02/2016 23:55

Go on then, tell us what it is.....

Inlovewithastrictmachine · 18/02/2016 23:58

I've not said 'the money is rolling in'. I said between that and my other business it keeps me afloat. I really enjoy it though, and I like the people I've met because of it very much.

1gorgeousson · 18/02/2016 23:59

What is it with these random questions? Different bot, different question.

Judging by his/her reluctance to name it, Inlovewithastrictmachine seems to be thoroughly ashamed of whatever 'MLM' wampum it is that he/she has invested in bought, and peddles to other losing investors 'MLM business owners'.

Patzy85 · 19/02/2016 00:01

Personally, I couldn't get others to part with X amount of money just so I could make up my CCs/PVs/etc or get a promotion. You KNOW most people you recruit won't 'change their life', let alone turn a profit. I find it unethical. I notice that other ex-bots all say the same, it's the deal breaker for many.

Worse still, and this does happen, bots tend to look down their nose at those not taking this "amazing opportunity". The them vs us approach is real. And this is our take, sorry bots, just ain't buying it (quite literally!).

I've seen first hand how people change under the influence of MLMs. The people who go all-in always seem to be either vulnerable, desperate for change or have been completely deceived, seduced by wildly embellished top bot success stories - that's what success day is all about, that's why you're told to bring a friend/prospectus after all.

The second an inspirational quote or desperate attempt at attraction marketing appears on 99% of people's news feed there is an instantaneous eye roll response.
I just dislike the whole culture of it. I'm just pleased I'm not alone.

Inlovewithastrictmachine · 19/02/2016 00:01

I'd also like to point out to Gimlet that I didn't say anything about financial freedom either. I wasn't promised it when I signed up, neither do I say this to others.

Inlovewithastrictmachine · 19/02/2016 00:07

Yes, I'm desperately ashamed, please accept me back like the prodigal daughter, no longer vilified on MN, but back on the dole queue. No chance!

You English Kniggots.

throwingpebbles · 19/02/2016 00:11

But we have already agreed, have we not, that the choice isn't between MLM and Dole queue? It's actually between MLM and "lots of other alternatives"

Eyespying · 19/02/2016 00:12

Gimlet1984 - Reading between the lines, I think Inlovewithastrictmachine is actually confessing to having never made an overall net-profit in his/her mysterious 'MLM', but that another commercial activity (to which pay-through-the-nose 100% positive mindset training 'MLM stuff' can be transferred) has kept him/her afloat.

prettyusefulsometimes · 19/02/2016 00:14

I'd also like to point out to Gimlet that I didn't say anything about financial freedom either. I wasn't promised it when I signed up, neither do I say this to others

Good - because that's MLM 101 isn't it? All the MLM's I've looked at reiterate this point at every stage to those they've recruited because it's the law. Every SM advert and prospect conversation should include this information early in The Process

It's taken 7/8 threads to generate some "genuine" MLM testimonials?
Just as - I feel - the regular contributors are really rattling some cages by exposing and challenging the dodgy practices. What a coincidence.

Trouble is most of us are here and sticking with what's unfolding because we already know of victims embroiled in the various MLMs and have a pretty good idea as to why they felt the need to get involved and how they were subsequently manipulated.

Any thoughts on drawing up a list of organisations / individuals who have been contacted to draw their attention to the MLM problem?

Ariix are returning to the venue they used a couple of weeks ago in this area, bringing in the "big guns" next month. It's not an affluent area, I can't help but wonder how many potential customers here can afford £120 a month for bottles of homeopathic tinctures or £1000+ for air filters unless they recruit others as soon as they leave the venue.

The ex JP now the Opportunity Company bot I know posts a lot more than when JPing, alluding to the Ariix products, but it's all very cloak and dagger and only gets fellow bot likes and comments whereas her personal posts get loads!

Blimey, I go out for the evening and you've got a new thread and some interesting new visitors!

If I were a high up bot I would be sending people here to look all innocent and say lovely things about MLMs and hope to cause troll hunting. Because that would make us bot watchers look mean and lose support. And distract us from the mission in hand. It's only a matter of time before we are accused of making a poor, innocent, kind bot cry.

Perhaps we should reply to these lovely, kind bots with a couple of factual questions but not to forget to continue posting scandalous facts and screenshots we find. Or 'screen shits' as I accidentally just typed.
