Good point. They can request their details to be destroyed when they leave (assuming they don't want the discount anymore) but would have to specify this clearly. If they found out the company was still holding their data after this they could serve a "Section 10" notice to ask them to destroy it. If they don't destroy it after that the ICO can get involved.

You are right at the heart of the problem, because although core-'MLM' adherents are comical, tragically they, and their families, are in a great deal of danger, and we want to help them.

That said, I would draw a distinction between the majority short-term 'MLM' adherents, and the hard-core chronic minority; particularly, the shills.

I think that ridicule can help short term MLM adherents to confront reality, but with the chronic variety it invariably drives them further into their intellectual bunker.

'Bots' and 'Bot Watching' has caught-on on these threads, because it just sums up what so many MN members have witnessed in their own lives. ie. Previously free-thinking individuals suddenly transforming into jargon spouting 'MLM' robots.

Agree with others, I think guided by the ever present eyes and all the former bots as well, i and I think many others have changed from being irritated /appalled at what individuals who work for Younqiue/ Forever Living etc to to having a real appreciation that these people are are victims, and we should be angry for them not at them

Eye I've just got to the end of Masters of Deception and yes, I've come across the bit where you met Eric Scheibeler. You must have provided each other with a great deal of support.

If the author's account of what he uncovered at Amway is true (and he invites his readers to think for themselves as to whether or not this is the case) it is appalling that the big bots behind these schemes are allowed to get away with wrecking other people's lives by making false promises that financial freedom is just around the corner (as long as they do exactly as they're told, buy this book, this download, attend these trainings, kiss X butts ...). And the twisted so-called religious teachings are batshit nuts, to put it mildly.

I'm an ex very short term FL Bot. I've introduced myself previously under a different name but found I had a stalker. I quit just around 10 days ago when I realised what a lot of brainwashed tosh it all was. I only wanted to retail products but realised there was no money to be made in that plus all my family and friends were hugely sceptical! Now I see why! anyway, sorry for rambling just thought i'd say since i've quit i've had hateful disgusting messages from fake profiles on facebook even insulting my children! low life scum, if your opinion is negative they turn on you like a pack of wolves! I've blocked 3 fake profiles in 2 days. behaving like school children!

crazycat lady I'm really sorry for your experience. If it makes you feel any better, it's not you, it's them. Except it's not even them, it's their Bot-selves since they got taken over by the MLM. It's like zombies, kinda.
