Have you received a letter from HMRC or Concentrix? This is part 8 now. Have you had the dreaded letter demandeing evidence you live alone? Hopefully we can support each other and try and make sense of it all.

That happened to me earlier. They don't have nearly enough staff to cope. In the call centre attached to my employer, calls are answered within 20 seconds on average. The service concentrix (don't) provide is absolutely abysmal. Sad

Whirly, it's crazy
I have now spent over 4 hours on hold & haven't spoken to anyone
I don't know what to do I really don't
I haven't got the time to be on hold for an hour. Looking after unwell DD-really thought I'd get thru tonight (on hold 90 mins)
What do I do if I never get through???

whirlygirly · 31/08/2016 20:27

My friend at work today said she phoned on a Saturday morning and got straight through if that's any help. I'm pretty sure she was talking about concentrix rather than hmrc.
I really sympathise, it's beyond shit.

feelinsupersonic · 31/08/2016 20:31

Ok thanks whirly
Having to explain to an ill 3 year old why I'm spending so long on the phone not speaking to anyone is hard. I had to say a bad man has taken our money. She said 'mummy, I've called the bad man 'Mr Poo'
As someone said up thread, U.S. single parents work our arses off & then get this? It's fucking bullshitttttttt

Concentrix are dealing with my claim because of childcare costs. I'd never dealt with them until we got the annual declaration and sent a letter of proof from the nursery immediately. We actually paid a lot more than we'd claimed for, as DS was only going to nursery a few days a month when we put the claim in but due to a change in shift pattern it went up to three days per week and I hadn't informed them immediately. It took them over six weeks to return my documents.

I phoned HMRC to report that the childcare costs are going down again now but have been told I have to phone Concentrix, but the only time I've ever managed to get through they've told me their systems are down. We've had to extend our overdraft, get an advance on my wages and borrow money to keep paying for nursery, I don't know how we're going to manage for another month and now I'm stressed about not being able to report the change in circumstances.

I spoke to someone at Citizens Advice this week as they want to hear people's stories about tax credits problems. It's not to help particular individuals but to improve the advice on their website. Any one who is happy to chat to them on the phone about their issues will receive a gift voucher to say thanks. Pm me for info.

Hi I'm new to here. I've had a later from concentrix about my tax credits childcare for Term time. Trouble is I worked it out wrong I was paying different amounts due to Dd being picked up by her dad or not even attending at all. Also my weekly payment worked out @ 33.10 a week, so my average was completely wrong. I said I pay about £31 pounds a week. Term time. But that's what they put down as my average. I was on the phone all the time trying to change this but couldn't. Also I think they have took it for every week when I aways said term time. I always said it was for term time. Completely screwed up. And I phoned tax credits after the reweal pack came and told them about my mistake and they still haven't worked it out right. Also because I was in such a pickle I stopped childcare paid it all back struggled and put it back on. During that time. Scared in case I get fined. For messing around. I totally get the over payment and will of course pay it back. Why is this so hard to work out. Called concentrix and they r waiting on more evidence. Bit won't say where from. I have all the evidence from nursery tho isn't good. Is it. I'm worried sick. It's been weeks. I feel like a criminal. Xx

backtowork29 · 01/09/2016 19:06

How long has this been going on for you daynes? I am in a similar position

whirlygirly · 01/09/2016 19:39

I think it's impossible to accurately predict what your childcare costs will be though. My work hours fluctuate and Xh will sometimes have the dcs in the hols but it's not consistent enough to be able to base my calculations on. I've never got it spot on. I think I might be a way out this time and am fully expecting to have to repay a chunk.

I even worried when my parents came to stay and helped out for a fortnight that it would mess things up. I've been checked for childcare costs every year since I started claiming (this is 4th time) and only had to repay some on one occasion, which wasn't an issue at all.

It has never taken this long before though. I wonder if part of the strategy is to make this process so complicated and unbearable that you do anything possible to get out of the system. If I worked full time I'd barely qualify for tax credits but as a single parent we'd all struggle in other ways as a result of nobody being there for the dcs.

Shell234 · 02/09/2016 07:20

Thank you .I've still not collected my brown letter but my tax credits haven't gone in today . Surely they don't just stop it with out telling you? After paying my rent and council tax I literally will have peanuts to live on x

Shell234 · 02/09/2016 07:37

Does anyone have the phone number for concentrix please

Loulabell09 · 02/09/2016 09:35

Shell234 this is there number 03456003130 good luck getting through x

Shell234 · 02/09/2016 09:53

Thank you . I've recieved documents back but no decision yet . But no payment has gone in stressed isn't the word!

backtowork29 · 02/09/2016 12:01

Shell, your payments shouldnt stop while they make their decision. Mine has been with decision makers since April but i have still had normal payments. Can you log in on line and see what it says?

Loulabell09 · 02/09/2016 12:22

Shell234 keep phoning until u get through or try HMRC and tell them u had no payment x

whirlygirly · 02/09/2016 19:55

Backtowork, since April? That's insane.

In previous years, my payments have always gone down (usually due to salary going up) a week or so before I actually received the letter confirming it. I don't think I've ever got the letter first, even though it's dated around the time of the change.

Did I see somewhere that October 5 is the cut off? If I'm being overpaid I don't want to wait any longer than necessary - I'm just accruing more to pay back Confused

backtowork29 · 02/09/2016 20:31

Yes April - its ridiculous. Ive called so many times and get fobbed off! I give up! The thing is i know i am being overpaid and they wont do anything until all has been resolved

Dayes123 · 03/09/2016 07:30

Backtowork29 I have been dealing with concentrexi since June. I claimed childcare since February 2016 till July 2016. Roughly about 600 they have paid me. I'm single parent. It scares the life out of me. I would just like to work full time and not claim child tax credits. But by the time I've paid childcare that's the best part of my wage gone. Really. I work part time 16 hours. Is there other ways to claim childcare other then tax credits? So how long u been waiting backtowork29?

Dayes123 · 03/09/2016 07:34

Backtowork29. Since April I thought mine was taking to long. I cannot get through on the phone just says engaged. Where abouts on line can u follow your case online?

Dayes123 · 03/09/2016 07:45

Backto work 29 I called tax credits they said they couldn't touch my award or make changes but concentrexi could. I called them. And they made the changes for me. I have just stopped the childcare. And I said I know it isn't right I always said this was for term time and I don't think it's been worked out like that I need the childcare to stop. I didn't need it over 6 weeks holiday. Then u can re work it out and out it on correctly. I've not put the childcare back on yet. To scared to. But know I'm going to struggle without it as the new term starts. Tax credits advisory advised me to do it. Hrmc helpline.

Shell234 · 03/09/2016 10:05

It won't let me log into it online .couldn't get through in my dinner hour at work so I'm still clueless . !

janicejack · 03/09/2016 11:35

Dayes, i do term time and at my nursery they do not let my dd do just term time i have to pay all year round so thats what i claim for, do you knkw if that would make any difference to mine

noodles3001 · 03/09/2016 16:23

Hi all...I recieved a letter from concentrix 2 days ago stating my tax credits have been stopped because I didn't send a reply to there letter on the 9th of June...now here's the thing...I NEVER RECIEVED A LETTER!!!! I'm a single mum of three and when I finally got through they said they needed bank statements etc...they also asked about 2 names that were registered at my address...one being the landlord and the other a previous tenant....how can they do this...absolutely no warning...went to pay for groceries and was so embarrassed as my card was declined...it's a disgrace as I rely on that money every week to feed kids etc....so I have to wait till Monday to get bank statements and everything else...has this happened anybody else with no first letter being recieved???

Dayes123 · 03/09/2016 20:17

Nope I just need term time before and after school. Nursery where charging me for the hours I did. But rules have changed I pay for the place booked. Rather than the hours, regardless of whether she attends or not.
