I've been sucked into forever living!! Why do I feel like the bad guy?

Recently an acquaintance emailed me to ask if I could 'help' her by trying a few products and giving her some feedback. Being the nice person I am I agreed. When the bag of samples turned up the penny dropped and i realised that she's trying to sell them to me (I'm naive I know!). I thought id just buy a little bubble bath. Its fucking 14 quid! No way. I'm sending the bag back and pleading eczema. Does this whole company operate by guilting friends and family into purchasing crap quality at ridic prices?

Well, £1,000 is 5% of £20,000, so they are claiming she was earning £20k pm before this payrise. Which is great. I'd only work two months a year, or just three years then retire Grin

bumbleymummy · 06/06/2015 00:17

I've noticed my friend's 'likes' gradually decreasing over the months. I wonder how long she'll stay with it. Anyone know average length of service?

Alice1983 · 06/06/2015 00:20

LOL. We are all keeping tabs on Likes and should probably look to start a Betting Company to see how long our friends will last..no..that's mean; but they are like super annoying Grin

Stitchintime1 · 06/06/2015 05:58

Does anyone in these schemes make any money?

I mooched over to the nethuns threads last night and crikey Shock they are a shocker. I feel worried for DSis now she is sucked in. The advice was so tenacious - one ppster asking for advice and another jumping on giving her a bollocking for not trying hard enough. I can't link to my phone but there is another seemingly supportive post but giving advice on basically hounding everyone you meet: neighbours; woman in local shop; friends of friends etc etc. Sad can you imagine serving someone a pint of milk and being jumped on to buy some gloopy gel.

bringbackcabinpressuee that sounds like your hairdressers type - that would have really stressed me out!

MI5agent · 06/06/2015 06:45

This thread is hilarious and so apt.

I know 6FL FB friends. One posted a print screen of her wages (c£700). However whenever I speak to her she's really busy, not getting to bed until 2am but planning to resign from her real job in 4/6/8 weeks (it keeps going back).

You have to ask yourself if the amount of physical hours you're putting in works out as a decent hourly rate.

A pp said earlier about FL people making out that just because you're in a 9-5 job you must hate it. I feel this way too. I love my job and all of my friends do too, yet I've been contacted on more than 4 occasions to get involved because "you have a child, would you not like to spend time with her" comments.

Aside from this, I also have been contacted to do the starve yourself for 9 days diet clean 9 because "you're in to your fitness and healthy eating, why no do this C9, you lose more weight". Fuck the fuck off, I've lost weight through e x e r c i s i n g and eating v e g e t a b l e s....

The best one was receiving a PM saying "you're getting married this year, do you want to look fabulous us on your big day?" Hmm

For any FL people reading this:
Angry STOP trying to sell me overpriced shit
Angry STOP making out your life #athome with you #family is better than my choice to work
Angry STOP trying to get my
contacts as you know I have lots
Angry STOP with the inspirational quotes
Angry STOP guilt tripping people with quotes on "good friends" supporting you (implying bad people will hold you back). I'm still a friend even if I don't like an organisation.
Angry Just STOP.

Rant over

MarthasHarbour · 06/06/2015 07:12

Grin MI5 are you me?! Grin

YY to all of your post! In particular my cousin has already made me look like shit for stamping on my DSis' 'ambition' just because I politely declined the offer of a party/gloop/better life/time with my kids.

MI5agent · 06/06/2015 07:19

It was a good rant that was wasn't it Blush

I just don't get why these intelligent friends think they're going to bring in £2k a month from working 2 hours a day from home. And the "shame on you" insinuations for working in a 'real' job is poor marketing.

I've unfriended 3 of the 6 I know. 2 people are less in to it but the one, I could quite happily shake her!

And breathe.

LynetteScavo · 06/06/2015 07:41

I have a FB Forever Living friend who posted before and after picture of her DHs stomach when he'd drunk the stuff.

I concluded it's an excellent laxative.

My Yonique friend is a very sensible career woman during the day. But obsessed by eyelashes by night.

Tiredemma · 06/06/2015 07:41

The ones posting from their 'office' (sofa) with a pic of their laptop and a glass of wine- at 10pm with an insinuation that this is desirable

I left my office at 5 mate- im now sitting just drinking wine.

Silverturnip · 06/06/2015 07:48

I've been inspired to go and check out Facebook page for a FL friend I unfollowed... Dear me they have their poor child posing with the products. Shameless.

Fairy13 · 06/06/2015 08:17

My friend does juice plus.

He's literally been brainwashed. Always posting about 'business meetings' how his life has changed since starving himself and 'clean eating'

Constant status updates always with a YouTube style clean eating tutorial using the shake powder and a million hashtags.

Fairy13 · 06/06/2015 08:19

The other thing about JP friend is posting about giving jp capsules to YOUR CHILD! Noooooooo.

My favourite of his hashtags is #weknowsomethingtheydont

How could we not know? You shove it down my throat every 3 minutes!

Tiredemma · 06/06/2015 08:24

DPs friend and his fiancee went JP mental. At their wedding most of the guests were there telling their JP success stories and the favours had JP capsules in them.
It was really bizarre

Fairy13 · 06/06/2015 08:31

JP Capsules as wedding favours! I've heard everything now.
Brilliant.

The FL person I know is a prize twat anyway but is now a FL obsessed prize twat.
She has sold FL detoxes to a few people but they've all said they taste vile, don't work etc and then she gets abusive!
I saw her recently and she didn't look any different!!

xenu1 · 06/06/2015 08:49

Hi

No experience of FL but theses MLMs usually work the same way. They rip off the sales force. No-one retails as the prices are way higher than a shop, so any "sales" are from members buying for themselves. The twist is that the MLM or high-up members make money selling "business tools"- motivational tapes, books, convention tickets to the downline. Amway is the first and largest of these, and people join the cult and assume that the upline are telling the truth about earnings, when in fact most of them are losing and the very top make money exploiting the salesforces. The come-on can be very appealing, but its a con. Ask for the audited accounts with profits and sales from someone recruiting you. You wont get it :)

Temporaryanonymity · 06/06/2015 08:57

I used to have a FL living friend until I defriended her.

She is really into it and regularly posted photos of cheques for $40k on stage at the local FL HQ in Warwick. She and her husband both work full-time in their "global business" and she really goes all out promoting their very glam and exciting new lifestyle. She never, ever posted about the product. I don't think the product matters at all. She only cares about recruiting other mugs to flog the product.

From the outside their appear to be doing very well, leading a very ostentatious life. Private school, big cars, international travel, lots of shopping, days at the spa (with laptop of course!) and indeed, the motivational daily quotes.

As much as I hate to say it she really does seem to be making money out of it and I know for a fact she's been at it for around three years or so. I don't know what will happen to her when it all collapses. So much of her self-worth seems tied up in her relentless pursuit of materialism.

DocHollywood · 06/06/2015 09:01

My zinging FB friend is now into Herbalife. Going to be a 'coach', going on courses, banging on about the amazing products and hashtagging each post 5 times. I'm tempted to ask about whether her Younique/JP/FL sales are suffering but she pre-empts every posts with 'no negative posts please, I'm really upbeat about this'.

as soon as either of my two FLFB start doing this, they shall be de-friended!

xenu1 · 06/06/2015 09:31

Loval - its called "Fake it till you make it". Very nasty psychological tools to make others envious and ensnare them. Unfortunately those proposing this tend to fool themselves as well, until they finally go bankrupt. FL seems a but new for horror stories, but the Amway experience is relevant.
Mr Schielbers' "Merchants of Deception" is comprehensive.

archive.org/details/MerchantsOfDeception

but theres loads of stuff on t'internet on Amway scams, motivational cults and MLMs (theres a book called "Fake it till you make it" too. I think that's free to download

xenu1 · 06/06/2015 09:33

sorry to follow-up. The first major site to expose Amway (the template for rip-off MLMs) is Amway, the Untold Story www.suburbia.net/~fun/amway/

You will see your FB "friends" following the cult..
