This thread follows on from the last five threads in the series, the most recent of which is here.
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/legal_money_matters/2193736-Debt-mutual-support-thread-number-5-the-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel-is-NOT-an-oncoming-train?

We live in a society that makes it horribly easy to get into debt but makes it incredibly hard to admit you have a problem and even harder to get out of debt.
The posters on threads, new and experienced, are here to help people get to where they want to be.

I am not in debt, any more.
Here is a link to some spreadsheets that might help
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/legal_money_matters/1987219-SPREADSHEETS-for-Debt-Control-Budgeting-Mortgages-etc

and lots of people use this
YouNeedABudget

The important things to remember are

  • yesterday is as past as the Crimean War
( we will not judge how you got into debt, but we will support you on the way out )
  • this is an anonymous forum
( we will not tell your employer, family or friends of the reality of your numbers and we are here day and night )
  • this thread is about supporting people through the huge mindset changes needed to come out of debt
( feel free to offload all of the feelings that drive you to want to spend, that make it hard to save and that generally make life crap at times, including getting those closest to you to recognise the changes needed )

Join in, bare your soul and come out the other end.
Its worth it.
You are worth it
The long term results for you, your partner, your children, and your friends and family are worth it.

Job! Not Jon!

midnightmoomoo · 25/02/2015 17:08

fairy that's so funny, that's his name!

Well, it's a done deal and he starts on 23rd March! I can't believe it's taken 18 months! Downside is he won't be here much, if at all during the week but that's ok, I might have to reign in or rejig the kids activities to make life a bit more manageable but I know I must be grateful that he's finally found something. We've done it before and this time will be much easier as the kids are much older. Plus, I'm working and I really enjoy being a TA so now I don't have to feel as guilty for not teaching and earning more.

I'm going to draw up an action plan for clearing our debt, will shuffle a bit between cards to reduce interest but I hope we can be straight within a year. I've told him we have to keep living poor as we are so that we can reduce the debt asap. The relief is just immense. Thank you all for being here Flowers

Whoop, whoop, dance around the room for JickJak - a bottle of Cava on Friday night for you Grin
And YYY to staying living poor till the debts are all gone as then you'll be properly sorted sooner than you think.
And the activities and stuff - the new routine will be hell for the first three weeks and then it will be the new normal.

A good mood at the end of this thread

even if life is not going great right now, the more optimistic you can be, the more good opportunities you will spot

And the reason it works is that people who are on the lookout for good things and opportunities are more likely to find them
