You don't need one of these so called specialist firms to do it.

I have received an offer of £4221 from M&S in the post this morning.

All it took was a letter asking for my original signed application and then a claim form.

I started the process on 30th October and received my offer today for the cost of some paper and a couple of recorded delivery envelopes.

I am still waiting to hear from a couple of other lenders but what a fantastic start to the weekend.

...just a thought the money left over from clearing my CC will that come as a cheque? The letter didn't say.
I'm so chuffed I can now get rid of that blooming card!

TequilaMockinBird · 19/10/2012 07:31

Well done seabuck Smile

Did it not say in the offer letter how it will be paid? You may find that they will send you a cheque for the whole £500. If not then yes, you should get the difference paid by cheque.

seabuckthorn · 19/10/2012 08:55

I'm going to have another read of it.
It said if I do nothing then they assume I accept the offer.
I think it looks like a trip to blooming bank.

DH phoned up a company that claims it back for you, under the misguided impression that all the info was stored on a computer somewhere that they could check for him without having to do anything. When he was told he would have to find all the paperwork and give them all the details so they could do it, he was quite Shock that they could take 25% when he was still doing all the work himself Grin So he's immediately given up on the idea because of can't be arsedness.

TequilaMockinBird · 19/10/2012 10:19

Picnic, noooooo don't use one of those companies! You don't need to find any details, you only need to know the companies with which you took out loans/credit cards. Account numbers etc are not that important - they will find them for you.

seabuckthorn · 19/10/2012 15:37

My cheque arrived today! Yippee :)

TequilaMockinBird · 19/10/2012 16:26

Yay seabuck, happy spending! Grin

seabuckthorn · 19/10/2012 16:33

Thank you!

Considering I just filled out one online form and I didn't even have a very big credit limit. I'm chuffed with the result.
Daylight robbery getting a company to do it!

Hi , i have paid ppi on my M&S charge card in the past , have a tel no to ring on monday to see if i can make a claim .

I also have a capital one credit card which i am still paying PPI on , only realised i was paying it when i checked last months statement , have had this card for ages and am currently over the limit , would this matter when making a claim ? Also how easy did people find it claiming against capital one ?

frumpet · 19/10/2012 17:44

I am paying £20 a month at the moment for ppi with capital one , dont remember it even been mentioned . Even if i get enough to clear some of it , i would be a very happy bunny !

TequilaMockinBird · 19/10/2012 18:06

I've claimed twice with Capital One for 2 separate cards and not had any problems at all. On the more recent card, I rang up to cancel the PPI first, and then put my claim in.

If its the PPI payments which are pushing you over the limit then you may also get the over limit fees refunded as part of the settlement.

unity156 · 19/10/2012 19:49

Not happy today just received letter from lloyds/tsb over ppi on mortgage which we were miss-sold and they are refusing claim!! they did that sneaky thing of phoning and putting conversation in there letter then saying in there "opinion" they think everything was done fine and thats it. We shall see ive sent a reply arguing the case and given them seven days to reply before I take it to FOS. We shall see???!!
frumpet if I was you I would just have a go!
Tequila/ SH05 havent received cheque from citi yet but it is a little soon yet , 15 working days up mid next wk. I recon at least 2 weeks after that.hope you are both thinking of using your money from citi wisely!! haha

frumpet · 19/10/2012 21:11

Tequila , does capital one have a dedicated department that you dealt with ?

TequilaMockinBird · 19/10/2012 21:58

It's the complaints department frumpet. The address is on their website, I'd link but I'm on my phone.

Unity, good for you appealing it. I think sometimes they try it on by saying no, hoping that people will just give up!

My cheque doesn't clear until Wednesday but I've already spent half of it Grin

picnicbasketcase · 20/10/2012 09:18

I started looking through some paperwork just in case and a load of them say 'repayment cover', is that the same thing?

TequilaMockinBird · 20/10/2012 11:07

Sounds like it picnic! Only one way to find out....stick a claim in Wink

Shakey1500 · 20/10/2012 19:03

Easygoing23 · 22/10/2012 21:29

Hello Again. I had a secured loan of £12000 back in 2005 and paid this over a period of 2years at a variable interest rate. which was ranging from £200 to £250 a month over 10years. I came to settle this at this stage and had to pay back an overall of £12 984. I added the payments up for the 2years I was paying and it was over £5850, so thats a wooping total of £18000. Does this sound right anyone?? Thank you.

Easygoing23 · 22/10/2012 21:35

Sorry over £18000.

TequilaMockinBird · 23/10/2012 07:51

SH05, go girl! Keep us updated please.

Easy, I've no idea about the repayments, sorry. But if you think you had PPI on the loan then claim. They may be able to tell you over the phone whether you had it or not.

Easygoing23 · 23/10/2012 17:04

Thanks T!!

unity156 · 23/10/2012 22:23

MrsChocken · 24/10/2012 20:31

Just wanted to thank this thread too - between this and money saving expert I was inspired to apply for my PPI back from Egg, with whom I had 3 (repaid) loans from dating from 2003. I've today received a cheque for £21k which is, as you can imagine, life changing. The acceptance letter for this settlement amount was sent back in September, and on chasing the cheque when it didn't arrive it transpired that the 15 working days stated is from the date they order your cheque - not when they receive your settlement acceptance. If you do need to chase Egg you need to call 'Hero' reception - option 1 on telephone number 01332 335127. They will take details and call back within 48 hours. Although I was lucky to get a call back same day and they said I'd get the cheque within a week which I did. Best of luck getting your hard earned money back - I never expected to get anything and it really IS worthwhile. And thank you again!!! A million times over!
