I spoke to dp about talking to the landlord last night but he reminded me that the only way we managed to get this house was by paying 3 months upfront because we didn't have a guarantor so their mortgage company wouldn't accept us unless we paid 3 or 6 months upfront for insurance or something so we have to do it the same way again or provide a guarantor - which we can't/won't do. So looks like it's 3 months or out

Her house is HA - needs to be a homeowner lol She did kind of offer when we were first moving in but i really didn't want to put her or anyone in that position as it meant if we ever couldn't pay the full rent they would be liable for all the rent!!

expatinscotland · 07/09/2005 10:37

Swiper,
Try to sell anything you can in order to reduce the amount of loan you have to take out.

Good luck!

swiperfox · 07/09/2005 10:37

I did think about that HF, but we've only got 6 days and i'm starting to panic!

OP posts:
munz · 07/09/2005 10:43

what do u have so far? so we know what to aim for?

as ES says - anything u can sell?

vickitiredmum · 07/09/2005 11:26

Anything you can pawn so you can get it back when you're straight.

Credit card capital one lend to people with not so great credit ratings. However, i would pay it off as soon as feesibly possible because of the interest.

swiperfox · 07/09/2005 11:36

We've got 800 so we are a grand to go. DP actually has a grand to come from work in a couple of weeks but can't pull it forward.
Pawn-wise we don't really have anything of any value. We've used cash converters loads of times before and I ended up losing an awful lot of jewellery for about 30 quid Other than that we've got a basic tv, dvd, vid, comp etc but none of them are worth anything. dp's car is on finance and being a sales rep he has to keep that to work. I've sold all the baby stuff. All i've really got is a few antique bit from my great great aunt and a bracelet and ring which my nan gave me for dd but i'm a bit scared to pawn those!

OP posts:
swiperfox · 07/09/2005 11:37

I found that you can get payday loans up to 800 but you have to have a debit card which dp doesn't. arrgghh!!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 07/09/2005 11:39

How about clothes? Any of those to sell - like on Ebay?

titchy · 07/09/2005 13:52

could you not get a debit card? Surely if your dh has some sort of income most banks will give hima debit card. It may not have an authorised overdraft on it but you maybe wouldn;t need that anyway. Normally can be set up within a day or two.

swiperfox · 07/09/2005 14:04

He's with Barclays but they won't give him one. They are really really crap. He's paid loads into there but because he's gone overdrawn a couple of times they won't change his account. I tried Halifax too and they declined. No idea why.

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 07/09/2005 14:05

That's a pain, swiper. I'm with Barclays, earn nothing and live in my overdraft. Always at least £400 overdrawn and they have yet to reclaim my card back....

babyonboard · 07/09/2005 14:25

i had that same problem with barlays, while i was at uni they gave me credit card, £2000 overdraft etc, and as son as i graduated and went a little overdrawn they demanded my card back and won't return it.
very annoying to have to queue in the bank every time you need money- so these days I just use dps account.

do you have a car by anychance? I know places like the moneyshop will do a 'logbook' loan..where they give you a loan in exchange for your car as security, and no credit checks are involved

Tortington · 07/09/2005 14:29

i second toothache - the provvy with give anyone a loan becuase they charge extortionate amounts of interest. it really is criminal the activities they get up to. so try not to.

now she also had a good idea with credit cards.

i keep getting "capitol one" offers through the door - their interest is very high - but might not be as high as the provvy. maybe it would be worth giving them a go.

also when we were in shit street we managed to get an account with "cahoot" and got a loan from then online - now if you can do that - its gfab as you can higher or lower your repayments according to how much you hav that month and you can do it online.

re the antique jewllery - i would take to pawn shop see how much you would get - no harm in asking - lets face it its better than being homeless.

are you registed with council to get a house?

Tortington · 07/09/2005 14:31

i hate barclays.

babyonboard · 07/09/2005 14:38

ooh..and by the way, you can get a log book loan even if the car is on finance, as my friends did it recently. they usually offer a pretty low repayment rate too, so it would be fairly easy to keep up with

SherlockLGJ · 07/09/2005 14:40

Can you get a written undertaking from work that you are guaranteed the £1000, could you show this to the landlord ??

Sorry if I am repeating other folk.

curlysmum · 07/09/2005 14:59

Hi I was in a similar sitution well still am a while back and my partner borrowed £500 from Provident you have to phone and an agent does'nt usally call for a couple of days so if you need to call them I would call them sooner rather than later...to borrow £500.00 he has to pay back 700.00 at £25.00 a week , the other thing I looked at some of those pay day loans sites and as far as I remember there was some that would accept you if you had just a cheque book not a debit card and you could provide pay slips and proof of salary going in to your bank accout, this was'nt the case for us as I do not have a cheque book but if you search under pay day loans on yahoo and go into all the site I am pretty sure this was the case ....another company you could try is Welcome they have small branches Nationwide and do small loans up to £1000.00, I am somewhat an expert in the being skint area...

swiperfox · 07/09/2005 15:16

Hi all - thanks all so much for your help! Something has to work hey??!

Our car is on finance from Welcome. I think we asked in cash converters about a log book loan once and they said we couldn't if it was on finance - or could have been dp making it up!! Who did your friends do it with babyonboard?

OP posts:
babyonboard · 07/09/2005 15:19

curlysmum- are you sure that the repayment amount is only £700? it seems very low for provident. I looked at their website a while ago when we were struggling and for £200 I would have had to pay back a silly amount.
heres what it says on their site
Loan Amount
£200
23 Weekly Repayments of
£12.80
Total Amount Payable
£294.40
Typical APR
497.4%

apr....497.4%..thats right! it is ludicrous!
it is so unfair how those who have the money problems, and therefore a poor credit rating have to pay such ridiculous amounts for loans, while the better off can get 2% apr or interest free loans from their bank.

swiperfox · 07/09/2005 15:23

I don't understand when I always see things on tv about how it's so easy to get credit and credit companies will throw cards at you etc - me and dp have bad credit but not really bad and we don't owe ridiculous amounts yet we can't get anywhere!!

OP posts:
babyonboard · 07/09/2005 15:31

He used an independent shop called money solutions in dulwich.
Lots of places offer these, but I would be sure it is a reputable company first.
as for it being on finance, I would just say no, surely they have no way to check?
