money spinners this morning. they got 1900 in four weeks. but they did sell the family car. mom bought only asda smart price food. hid the phone from the kids. and sold all their old stuff at a car boot sale.

stitch · 22/08/2005 22:07

not much help, but come and do some cleaning for me?

mumtosomeone · 22/08/2005 22:20

you can do my ironing!!!
I was amazed she cut food bill form 160 to 24!!!!

stitch · 22/08/2005 22:26

yes, but if she is buying ingredients for a roast diinner, which is being binned, and flowers and fruit that nonone eats.......

from what i have gathered from other people on mn, i spend much more than most mnetters on groceries, and i definitley dont spend that much, and i buy nappies too.

mumtosomeone · 23/08/2005 08:02

I wish I could cut mine down by that much!!!
I spend about 140ish I think cant see where I can cut down!
There are 7 of us though so I suppose thats only 20 each a week!!! Not bad really!! I shop in Asda so often a couple of bits from george fall into troley!!!
2 in nappies aswell

nutcracker · 23/08/2005 08:12

Oh Swiper thats such alot of money.

Why doesn't your dp get paid properly though. Surly he should get a basic wage even if he sells nothing ???

I would try and negotiate monthly rent payments with the landlord instead.

babyonboard · 24/08/2005 09:14

Most credit unions will require you to have beensaving with them for up to 20 weels before you can get a loan, and they will very rarely loan such a large amount..
failing that i have no ideas

Surfermum · 25/08/2005 17:46

Swiper, are you getting all the tax credits and benefits you're entitled to?

swiperfox · 25/08/2005 18:12

I think so - i get tax credits weekly which is what we live on (80.00). As far as i know i'm not entitled to anything else because apparently 4 of us can live on dp's wages?!

Nutty he doesn't get a basic wage. His job is so stupid. It was ok for the beginning of the summer because there were lots of leads and people buying windows but now it's died right down so if he sells nothing he gets paid nothing - not even a petrol allowance - thats why we're desperate to make this 1800 so then we've got 3 months to get him into a proper job and earning a normal wage in time for the next rent

nutcracker · 25/08/2005 18:15

Thats awful Swiper, are they allowed to do that ???

I would def have him look for something else.

swiperfox · 25/08/2005 18:18

yep - seems so. The way they do is it although he works for them they count him as self employed. They're a real pain. Problem is if he ends up rtying to borrow this money from work he'll be stuck there which we desperately dont want!!

OP posts:
nutcracker · 25/08/2005 18:19

Have you asked the landlord about monthly payments instead ??

swiperfox · 25/08/2005 18:22

We can't do that. We nearly didn't get this house because I'm not working so the only way they'd let it to us is to do ao rolling 3 month contract so every 3 months we have to renew and pay 3 months rent until i'm earning - which with a proper job will be fine - we'll just keep 600 a month aside as if we were paying monthly. This is our first time though we've only been here 3 months so don't want to scare them already!!

nutcracker · 25/08/2005 18:24

ahh i see, hmm can't think of how you can make that amount of money quickly, sorry.

swiperfox · 25/08/2005 18:26

nah me neither lol

Swiperfox, my Dh has worked in jobs like that for years and it has slowly brought us down and down. I commiserate, and can only suggest ebay. List and sell anything that you don't need or use.

Surfermum · 25/08/2005 18:32

Is what he's earnt for the last 4 months a third of his declared income to the tax credits people? If not, you could let them know that his annual income has gone down and they'd give you a rebate. I've always had mine really quickly.

Also, you can get council tax benefit if you're working and on a low income.

swiperfox · 25/08/2005 18:58

Thanks spagblog - does your dh still do it?

Surfermum i might just try that, thanks

If I had it ...........

You could have it...........

Sadly I haven't

babyonboard · 26/08/2005 18:21

Is there a chance you can ask a family member or close friend?
if you are really stuck I am sure they won't mind
If you end up selling your tv/ computer etc it will not only be depressing, but you'll get a lot less than they are worth and then lose out when you buy new ones.

SenoraPostrophe · 26/08/2005 18:39

swiper - if your dp has not been earning for 2 months, you can claim income support and housing benefit for that time. this will screw your tax credits application and you will have to apply for that again when your dp is earning, but it will be more than 80 pound a week.

Also I think comission-only jobs are now illegal (they should pay minimum wage). Your dp should be able to claim some money at least from his employer.

ask the landlord if you can pay monthly, and go to CAB for benefits advice. If asking the landord fails then I dunno.

SenoraPostrophe · 26/08/2005 18:39

sorry, should read if he hasn't been earning for 2 weeks

swamp · 26/08/2005 18:40

do you have parents/in laws/grandparents you could borrow from?

babyonboard · 26/08/2005 19:01

we borrowed a fairly large sum to pay my student fees a couple of years ago, after support was unexpectedly declined. my cousin lent me £2000 and he had no problem with it at all, he said he doesn't often give to charities as he'd rather have the money to help those closer to him..if you can then i would advise doing the same, as any sort of bank loan will just make your finacial troubles harder in the future

try the website

it is amazingly good for finacial advice, everyone in the forums is very helpful

swiperfox · 26/08/2005 19:56

DP got paid 400.00 today and predicted 500.00 for next week....phew! That's half the problem solved!!
