Provident do charge alot of interest yes but tbh i think for people with bad credit they can be a lifesaver.

I think we were quoted £15 a week for 55 weeks for a loan of £500 so yeah we would of ended up paying back £825 .

nutcracker · 07/09/2005 16:33

Are Welcome car finance easy to deal with Swiper ???

We may need to get a new care as ours is starting to play up alot.

swiperfox · 07/09/2005 16:37

They are really good nutty. DP had the mankiest old sierra you could imagine and we took, it in to welcome. They say you get 1000 off for your old car but in reality they overprice their cars and make it look like they've knocked a grand off!! They get you to sign a thing to sell your car for a quid to go through their books and thats pretty much it! You choose a couple of cars to go for a test drive and whichever one you choose you drive away in. They also say you get 250 cashback but cleverly word it so you give it up to take more money off the car/finance price - bit sneaky!!

We got a 2001 peugeot 607 HDi for i think around 6/7000

OP posts:
swiperfox · 07/09/2005 16:40

Peugeot 406 HDi even! (Can you tell i don't drive it??!)

OP posts:
nutcracker · 07/09/2005 16:40

What are the repayments like ??

swiperfox · 07/09/2005 16:51

200 a month for the car.

Provident have just called, they've said they can give dp 300 and me 150 because i'm not working.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 07/09/2005 16:54

Hmm thats odd, they should be able to give your dp the whole £500 if he's working.

They said that to me though about the £150 cos i don't work.

CountessDracula · 07/09/2005 16:57

can you pawn something?

fireflyfairy2 · 07/09/2005 16:59

Is there any chance you could sell the car and buy a cheaper one? £200 a month seems a lot.. plus insurance on a DI car..
But even at that ti would take a while longer than a week to sell it

so thats another £450.00. How much more do you need??

Your dh could help.. is there a place near you that pays for sperm samples

munz · 07/09/2005 17:01

FF -but u'd have to pay the finance off still so it would be pointless really.

fireflyfairy2 · 07/09/2005 17:03

Mmm yea, i never thought of that

babyonboard · 07/09/2005 17:16

not really ponitles..just the same as taking out a loan, which would actually be a further payment every month.
though if your dp needs it for work i assume he needs a newer and more reliable car.

curlysmum · 07/09/2005 17:33

sorry about Provident my partner def borrowed £500 and pays back £25.00 a week for 28 weeks I thing they must differ depending on the area or agent..

swiperfox · 07/09/2005 17:41

you can't sell a car if it's still on finance because you don't legally own it until its paid (apparently)

dp wants to know how much they pay for sperm samples!! (he asked quite seriously!!!!)

So, if we can get 450 tomorrow we're up to 1250. so we still need to find 550!!!

OP posts:
Passionflower · 07/09/2005 19:44

You can sell a car on finance as long as you pay the outstanding balance immediatley, anything over is yours to put down on another car. You have to tell the finance co what you're doing though!

steffee · 07/09/2005 21:44

Swiper, could you not give your landlord what you've got and tell him you'll pay the rest in a couple of weeks - you've got a huge chunk of it at least! He could get worked up and find a way of getting you out but I doubt it, to go to court to get you evicted he'd need to prove you had at least two months rent arrears, and buy the time the 14 days passed before he could even get a court date you'd have paid it.

If he's any decent landlord he'll just let it go, you've both tried so hard!!

swiperfox · 08/09/2005 13:38

looks like we might have to try that. Provident people are coming round at 5 and !!

OP posts:
starlover · 08/09/2005 13:39

oi swiper! have you spoken to any debt advisors yet?

swiperfox · 08/09/2005 13:41

i spoke to them and they advised that we do some kind of consolidation for our existing loans which doesn't really help us now - dp is going to ring again today and see if he can talk to someone else about getting a loan

OP posts:
starlover · 08/09/2005 13:44

consolidation is good. if you get a consolidation loan then surely you can add on the extra you need for the rent?

swiperfox · 08/09/2005 13:46

She was suggesting consolidation as in where they just negotiate on your behalf with your debtors. Hopefully dp will do better than me i'm useless at that kind of thing!

OP posts:
starlover · 08/09/2005 13:46

take a look here they claim to be able to help write off debt!

starlover · 08/09/2005 13:47

specifically here

swiperfox · 08/09/2005 14:07

That looks really good - going to show dp that one.
