I never lie down after putting the progesterone in, and it's never been a problem. I think that after 15 min, the fat/wax (or whatever the bullets are made of) are only just starting to dissolve, so you might as well get moving.

just Lovely name. It's hard that you had to go home without baby, but hopefully, he will be coming out really soon! Have they said anything about when he'll be released?

Littlebear In contrast to everyone else, I don't pinch the skin for the heparin injections - if anything, I stretch it out. And I always try to find quite 'fatty' bits to inject in (which is not difficult, sadly).

cat Agree with the others, you might have to send an SOS to family and friends in this case, to have someone on standby.

Sunandrainbow · 15/05/2015 10:13

And jady - on the subject of pred, I haven't had any Issues, but the consultant did mention that it can cause mental health side effects - feel angry, upset, mood swings etc... Yuk to be going through them though - hugs. x

Sun 25mg isn't massive from what I can see (I'm on 20mg). My leaflet says usual dose is 20-40 initially up to 80mg. I was advised to take as early as possible in the day to reduce impact on sleep. From what I've read there are many things people may take in conjunction, e.g. Anti-depressants, but is down to each individual. Personally I'd not want to take anything more whilst pregnant, but depends why GP is talking about osteoporosis in your case.

Thanks Sun Sasha def makes sense the fight or flight. So we have more testosterone while pregnant? I read that pred is basically a manmade testosterone so possibly getting a double whammy? We did argue in my previous pregnancies too, but this was definitely rage and not just anger. Passed out with exhaustion shortly after we had making up cuddle.

CheesyMash · 15/05/2015 12:22

Cheers barking and tiny!

sun and jady I will be having 20mg when next pg and I'm sure prof Q mentioned this was a mild dose and didn't say anything at all about taking anything with it, even in the notes to my letter which lists associated risks and side effects.

flen hugs and Flowers for today

march it sounds like the progesterone is working and you could have potentially avoided another miscarriage. Can you still book the holiday regardless of when you fall pg? X

Catlover2014 · 15/05/2015 12:26

Love the name just! How are you and Scott today? Hope all is well?

cheesy I always tried to clear myself just before inserting in the back door so do that if you can. I have to say I think it's more better than the front door, a lot less messy and easier to fit around normal life!

Your poor friend Tiny. It seems very unfair to say they don't class her ectopic as a miscarriage. If I were her I would be fighting against that.

Thanks all for your input on the car situation. We live in the West Midlands and my house is only about 15 minutes from the hospital. I will talk with my midwife and local taxis to see what the options are. Also have my mum on standby but she lives about 40 minutes away from me and is likely to take over if allowed to be involved haha.

X

Sunandrainbow · 15/05/2015 12:31

Thanks jady and cheesy - good to know that I'm not on a hugely increased dose then. jady - GP was basically saying pred could cause osteoporosis and so to prevent against it, would also need to take the things she listed! I've emailed the consultant to check as haven't heard of anyone else being told to do this and have no specific medcal history re osteoporosis. x

Marchgirl · 15/05/2015 12:48

I haven't been advised to take anything either sun, but a friend who was on it privately was put on calcium tablets and high dose folic to counteract the effect

bakingtins · 15/05/2015 12:49

sun I was on 20mg pred with no bone supplements or antacids. My Dd weighing a whole 6.5kg was on 40mg dose for her IS. Now that is 'roid rage! She did have antacids. The osteoporosis problem has been documented in patients on steroids for long periods of time for asthma, or children with renal disease. If you are proposing to take it from BFP to 10 weeks then start weaning you are really not on it for long.

just glad to hear you got cuddles with Scott. Hope he continues to get stronger today.

Lovemylittlebear · 15/05/2015 13:07

I'm 7weeks 2 days and the nausea has hit big time which I didn't really have so bad with the miscarriages.

I had one EP and 2 Mcs one GP said it counted and one said it didn't. Either way that was November and still no appointment date - thank goodness I went private!

Good luck everyone that are waiting for tests/results xx

TinyTear · 15/05/2015 13:09

Thanks, yes my friend is a fighter. As soon as she leaves hospital she will fight for it at the GP

Brummiegirl15 · 15/05/2015 13:30

Blimey the thread has moved quickly!!

Cat hope you get it sorted.. You are Wolves aren't you? I assume you are going to New Cross? There have got to be so many women in Wolves who don't have cars and get to the hospital. I'm hoping taxi will be ok for you. Your Mum is probably closer than I am!

Littlebear great news you are feeling sick. Fingers crossed!

Just Aaahhh welcome baby Scott. So great to hear his name.

March you haven't fucked up at all Sad big hugs.

Cheesy Christ you make me laugh, but you've said the exact thing I wanted to know!!! Still been agonising front or back. But after hearing everyone's advice it's going to be back. I start tomorrow morning!

1 more day of preggo colleague!!!! I feel bad feeling like this but it will mean I won't have any pregnant colleagues and that's a long time coming!

Sunandrainbow · 15/05/2015 13:45

Thanks for the info march and baking - that's reassuring that this doesn't seem to be standard advice, although interesting that your friend was given supplements privayely march. I will update when I hear back from the consultant too, as to his opinion.

One thing the consultants secretary was able to share was a leaflet on pred in pg (which apparently the consultant should have given me!). In it it does say if you are on it for more than 3 weeks, then every two weeks you should have blood pressure checked and full blood screening (salt, glucose etc) as it can cause issues with those! Consultant didn't mention anything about this when he stuck me on them! Feel like I have half the story on everything at the moment. x

CheesyMash · 15/05/2015 13:51

brummie glad it gave you a smile! I start tomorrow too, we can be progesterone buddies! Hhhmmmm sounds lovely, ha! I think you stand a much better chance of BFP than me tho. I think we missed the window due to my ov being delayed and I've not had any symptoms or anything.

littlebear glad you're feeling sick Wink

jady don't be too harsh on yourself for having that 'rage'. All the meds must play havoc with your hormones on top of pregnancy which does the same, and then that's on top of everything you've been through as well. Maybe ensuring you have some 'you' time each day such as a walk or lie down might help to put things into perspective. X

bakingtins · 15/05/2015 14:31

littlebear I missed your scan update. Good news! Smile

Jady77 · 15/05/2015 15:17

Thanks Cheesy. It's a bit scary not being able to predict yourself.

Interesting about blood checks Sun, I've not been advised this either although leaflet does mention that you should have a "blue" steroid card if taking for more than 3 weeks.

Brummiegirl15 · 15/05/2015 15:31

Flen big hugs xxx

Sunandrainbow · 15/05/2015 16:37

Argh - consultant now saying that these 'precautions' are a good idea and what a great GP I have.... Erm should he not have mentioned this is the first place then???? And GP now saying they have no idea about heparin, dosage etc and that RMC needs to tell them (which sounds correct), but RMC say have to contact GP! I give up! Well I dont - I'm actually making a bit of a nuisance of self leaving umpteen messages, but it is rubbish!!!

CheesyMash · 15/05/2015 16:38

Just been to see my gp with my letter from coventry and he won't prescribe any of it!! Angry he says it's because he's not a specialist he can't take the risk of prescribing something he isn't sure of. Also he said because the protocol is part of university research rather than part of the nhs he couldn't rely on this. On the plus side though, he has referred me to Thornbury hospital in 2 wks which is a bonus. I just hope the consultant I see there is open to prescribing the meds.

cloudjumper · 15/05/2015 16:56

cheesy That is so annoying! Why can't he just get on the phone to Coventry and ask them about it, rather thank make you run from pillar to post?! Especially if you have a letter from them, clearly stating what is needed?! Angry on your behalf. Confirms my opinion that most GPs are next to useless when it comes to anything other than flu or chickenpox. On the other hand, Coventry could have just written you the prescription...

sun I agree! Did you call him up on this?! Bit of a haphazard approach from your consultant, if you ask me! And again a good example of the disconnect between hospitals and GPs. I just don't get it... You don't need that extra stress.

I had a similar thing when trying to arrange my early scan. Midwives said they can't do it, I must get a referral from the GP. The GP receptionist said that the midwives need to arrange this (yeah, right, who made you the expert?!). Luckily, my GP (when I finally managed to persuade the receptionist to get her to call me) agreed, spoke to the EPU and had no problems whatsoever getting an early scan booked. Pffft!

Justonemoretime · 15/05/2015 16:57

Ladies, sorry to hear about the ongoing saga of uncooperative GPs and uncommunicative RMCs re dosages etc. So very frustrating for you? Angry on your behalf.

barkingtreefrog · 15/05/2015 17:24

I can't believe this fobbing off of medical professionals between each other! Angry
cheesy let me know which consultant you get at Thornbury, the consultant I see at Jessops also works there Grin.

Jady77 · 15/05/2015 17:37

Also been calling between secretaries, the GPs and consultants, trying to just get the referral over to the consultant via fax. Playing Chinese whispers, but of course no one calls me with confirmation. Have to call each of them several times just to get the right fax number!

Sunandrainbow · 15/05/2015 17:57

Oh no cheesy - so sorry you are having a rubbish time too between hospital and GP! My GP was fobe to prescribe but understandably wanted to know what dose!!! I've just been to pick up the meds she recommended to protect against osteoporosis, and which the consultant said he was fine for me to take.... Got home and read the information leaflet and it says absolutely not to take if pregnant as the effects of this medicine in pregnancy are not known????!!!!!!!

Catlover2014 · 15/05/2015 17:58

cheesy that is so poor of your GP. Hope the consultant you see is more able to help, I imagine he or she will be.

Great news on the scan little, sorry I missed that one earlier. I believe seeing a hb and measuring about right between 7-8 weeks is a huge milestone and a very good sign!!!

Thanks Brummie I live south staffs and will have my baby at Russell's Hall in Dudley all being well. My mum is officially on standby and I plan to ring local taxis over the weekend to see if they'll take me. All being well DH will be back to driving in time but somehow I suspect baby will come early now this has come through. Sod's law and all that.

Glad pregnant colleague from work has finally buggered off. I can remember that relief so distinctly whenever there were girls expecting in my office. It's so shit seeing bumps!!!! X
