lovemysleep I'm glad the drugs aren't effecting you too much. Like you say the care and attention is an important part of pregnancy too so its good you're getting lots. I've read about two studies where women with unexplained rmc have a 85% chance of a successful pregnancy with regular scanning and attention - that is a high %. I've decided to go and see Quenby anyway and see what she has to say. Like you I find the not knowing and "bad luck" extremely frustrating and the thought of another mc is soul destroying, I just want to get everything I can get done checked. If they have checked and you do have very high NK cells it explains everything that has happened so try and stay positive. I've got everything crossed for you. Have you got a date for a scan yet?

MummyA Very sorry about your scan. I know from what you're saying that 5mm is not good enough but I took a friend for her lining measuring before IVF and it was 5mm, the sonographer said it was okay...she is now pregnant. I guess this is different with AS sufferers as I really don't know much about it but I hope they can get it sorted out.

Milky I'm glad they're going to test your prolactin. Maybe you will start getting some answers. Yes the Bad Luck thing is really annoying. How can any of us have such bad luck. Its just like you say, something they say when they don't have any answer! I feel the same about trying the third time wishing that I'd not believed them that it was bad luck but each time you look for hope and wish that the next pg will be the one.

Banana its hard to know what to do about testing as all doctors have different opinions especially re. NK cells. I spoke to Siobhan Quenby's secretary who said she would see me with a referral from my GP, I just need to ask the GP for a second opinion and that I want to see her. Apparently there is no waiting list and she would be able to see me in a couple of weeks (she's based in Birmingham). I just want to get her opinion and if possible have the tests. It wont do any harm. Let me know if you want her number.

Justme understanding your need to google but like the others have said its not good. Try and be positive the sonographer didn't seem too worried so that's got to be a good sign.

The other thing I want to rant about as well as "Bad Luck" is the "1 in 5 chance" where does this statistic come from!!! Surely some are 3 in 5 and some are 0 in 5. When you've had several mc 1 in 5 means nothing.

Both of these terms were said to me by the consultant last week and neither make any sense especially when I was given a 1 out of a 100 chance of mc after getting to 13 weeks.

sorry rant over...

lovemysleep · 12/02/2011 11:20

lucky yes, the statistics drive me nuts too - it just doesn't seem to be fair, does it? And getting to 13 weeks and having a mc is just plain cruel and awful..
Thanks for your kind words, they really help. I have a scan next Friday, will be 6+2 then - if they find a HB, I will be very happy, but ultimately aware that I am nowhere near being out of the woods yet.
Siobhan Quenby sounds like a good move - probably would have been much more convenient for me to see her rather than traipsing to London, as we are based in Worcester. Ah well! Good luck and hope she gets you some answers very soon, and you can get the ball rolling xx

mummyabroad · 12/02/2011 15:14

hi Lucky I am with you on hating the often irrelevant and meaningless statistics, for me its up there with "try not to get stressed" and "this procedure doesnt hurt it just feels uncomfortable" yeah right, you have obviously never tried it!! Angry Angry
I am really surprised about the IVF 5mm thing, was it at midcycle? I understood that IVF wouldnt be done if it didnt get to 8mm - There are no studies to determine what is best for AS sufferers, only a known risk of developing placenta acreta/increta/percreta/previa (and mc obviously)- so we are often quoted studies (well IVF data records) which (i was told) show that less than 8mm = less success with the pregnancy taking hold, however women on IVF are being stimulated with drugs too so its not an ideal comparison. Good news that your friend is pregnant though. I know of lots of AS women with thin linings who have had successful pregnancies too so I know it can be done - unfortunately I know of a quite a few sad stories too.

hi banana Yes, you've got it in one there, thin lining is an indicator of not being able to get pregnant, being at greater risk of mc or v. high risk pregnancy. But its an indicator not proof. I may well need more surgery and I would definitely want to go to Dr March however - its v. expensive and I would have to pay for it all privately. Its so expensive that it makes me shudder to think about doing it again.

lovemysleep good luck with that scan, will be rooting for you.

milky glad your GP is helping, I just read that prolactin is a Day 3 test so make sure you go early in your cycle (day 1-5) hope you dont have to wait too long for the results.

Iggi2011 · 12/02/2011 19:43

luckyfor2, if you don't mind me asking did you get an idea how much it costs to see Dr Quenby?
Mummyabroad I remember seeing an accupuncturist on the day I'd found out about mc#2, and her making a totally ill-thought-out comment about it all being down to stress. I have developed deaf ears to such tosh.

milkyway2007 · 12/02/2011 22:52

banana That is a relief that someone else has been through this. Mine aren't leaking by themselves either, but they're getting heavier and I have already increased a cup size and wearing my old maternity bras. This has all happened within a week...I'm really worried. Hopefully the milk wont come in because there's been no "stimulation" Confused

Thanks mummy - my GP actually booked me for a test last week aswell, but I cancelled it, as it was on the same day as my hospital appoinment, so she is quite eager for me to go in next week. Sorry, I am probably asking a really stupid question here, but Day 3 of my cycle would mean during my period right? (Feel so dumb right now Confused)

iggi After my 3rd mc I thought it was happening because of stress, and I really believed it aswell. I left my job - and am in the process of changing my career because of that thought. How stupid was I? Stress doesn't cause 3 or 4 mc's in a row!

lucky oh yeah! Doctors and their stupid stats! Another thing they've said to me everytime since my second mc is: "You're young - you have plenty of time to have children, so don't rush until you feel you have emotionally healed"...When they say that to me, I feel like whacking them across the head. Okay I am not that young, and I have something WRONG with me!! PLEASE find out WHY I keep miscarrying!!! Don't tell me my age - I already know that! And don't teach me family planning!!!! arggghhh..

Good luck with the scan lovemysleep will be thinking of you xx

Hi to everyone else :)

Iggi2011 · 12/02/2011 23:19

Milkyway my most recent want-to-whack-dr-on-head moment was the doctor giving me a ticking off for not taking folic acid. I had stopped taking pregnacare or whatever it's called as I thought I would mourn last baby for 5 minutes prior to getting body ready for the next one Hmm

Iggi2011 · 12/02/2011 23:21

Meant to say Milky I have hypothyroidism, the symptoms you describe certainly sound like you might have an issue with this. If you get blood test done please ask them for the actual figures, not just "normal" etc, as I was told I was borderline for ages when I really needed treatment.

mummyabroad · 12/02/2011 23:43

milky Day 1 of your cycle is first day of full flow period, so yes you could still be bleeding on day 3 I found this helpful when getting bloods done.

I hate the age thing too, I am 35 (36 in two weeks) and half the people I talk to say "oh, you are still young, you have plenty of time" and the other half tell me off for being too old to procreate like I have done something naughty! Both opinions I could do without, like you say I just want the fertility problem fixed thanks!

ooh it feels good to have a good moan Grin

milkyway2007 · 13/02/2011 14:16

Thanks iggi - when I had tests done after my third MC in August, they were at 895 - borderline being around 600. My consultant suggested getting another test in Jan - but I was pregnant by then, thats why it's been put back to now. So how was your hypothyroidism diagnosed? How many times did they test your prolactin to be sure? Because my consultant passed it off as (mummyabroad's and your favourite term Wink) STRESS......Hmm

That site is really good mummyabroad - thanks for that. Sorry you have been in the receiving end of that "age" comment too :(.

banana87 · 13/02/2011 16:46

WHERE IS AF???? Seriously, its 5 weeks today and she's not here. BFN last Monday and Fri plus we were not TTC so avoided SWI anyway. My cycles since mc have been getting longer not shorter and its freaking me out (I am a 28 day gal)...sorry for me me me just want AF to come!!!

Iggi2011 · 13/02/2011 21:52

I will do the AF version of a raindance for you, Banana. I remember once my accupuncturist making AF appear very quickly.
Milkway, I have pm'd you about thyroid.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 14/02/2011 09:11

Good morning all :) Just popping in quick as I can't stay away from the bathroom too long! I have done the dreaded thing and let myself get a tiny bit excited about this now. I had a stupid baby names discussion with myself yesterday. It is so hard not to imagine the baby being in your life in a few months time. We have put moving house on hold for this so we have already made it seem like we will definitely get that far. So now I am really angry with myself for getting my hopes up.

I am only 6+5 but it feels so much longer than that. I don't know how I am getting such bad symptoms at such an early stage. I feel like I'm further on than I am but I don't want to get my hopes up in that respect either.

Sorry for the me, me, me post. I know I should be sounding grateful I've even got to this stage. I am but I just needed to vent :)

mummy Hope you hear from your doctor today :)

justmee · 14/02/2011 16:03

hairylights · 14/02/2011 16:27

justme :( can your local epu help?

Question. While waiting for tests what are you ladies
doing about contraception? I think it's going to be condoms for us around mid cycle.

justmee · 14/02/2011 16:33

epu ?? i dont think that ecsist where i live i just havnt got a clue what to do im stuck :S xxx

hairylights · 14/02/2011 16:44

Early Pregnancy Unit - your local hospital should have one, you can look it up on google.

Have you been to a recurrent miscarriage clinic - could you give them a call?

luckyfor2 · 14/02/2011 16:56

Justmee OMG I'm not surprised you're freaking out! How long will it take for somewhere to get it in? Is it possible to just use half of a 4.0 if so I would do that. Sorry I can't help much as I don't know much about Clexane but if the doctor says you can do that then I would! Try (and I know its hard) not to freak about the spotting but as I'm sure you already know loads of women get spotting throughout pregnancy. I know you're stressed and I'm really not surprised so if you want to moan scream do it all you like on here. Big Hugs

lovemysleep not long to go before the scan, I know its an anxious time but try and stay positive, we'll all be routing for you.x

mummya I'm positive it was 5mm but she went for the scan 3 days before the procedure as she went to Barcelona for the IVF so not sure whether that would make a difference, sorry if I've been confusing and not been much help. Has the doctor been in touch?

Iggi not sure about cost for Quenby, the first appointment has to be a referral from GP and not sure after that but will keep you updated.

milky I've had the age thing lots too, unfortunately everytime it happens I get older (obviously) so soon, before I know it I'll suddenly be at the other end of 30! Another thing my mum actually said to me after the third mc was to just relax and it'll happen...gobsmacked I know she didn't realise what she was saying but seriously people just don't have a clue!

Coconuts I have those kind of conversations in my head all the time and I'm not pg. Its hard not to when you want something so much even if you tell other people you're not getting your hopes up its really tough not to. Its a very good sign to be feeling sick very early, I tend to get sick straight away which is hard but a v.good sign. Hang in there.x

I think AF is finally here though its nothing like i've ever had before. I've had period pains and its there all the time but not as heavy as normal, more when I wipe (sorry if TMI) and abit clotty...has anyone else experienced this after mc?

waves to everyone

justmee · 14/02/2011 17:02

I live in a forein country hairly lights so they dont have any of that stuff here i wish they did

luckyfor2 · 14/02/2011 17:18

Oh god no, what a nightmare. I can't believe noone has rang you back that is disgusting. Is there a department within the hospital that might be able to tell you where to get it. Where do you live if you don't mind me asking? Can your doctor not try and find where to get them from?

justmee · 14/02/2011 17:21

i live in turkey im going to the hospital tomorrow but cant see them giving it out they are not aloud to sell it and they wont give it free and i dont have life insurance :(

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 14/02/2011 17:23

Gosh what drama justmee Really feel for you. Hope you manage to get some for tomorrow :) Must be so hard over there in Turkey :(

luckyfor2 thanks, I'm trying :) Perhaps AF will get a bit heavy over the next couple of days?

Well I have found out I have hyperemesis. I have a doctor appointment tomorrow morning to get some anti-sickness meds. I'm so dehydrated my lips are cracked and my pee is a funny colour. My eyes are all bloodshot from retching so hopefully the meds will make me feel better when they kick in.

mummyabroad · 14/02/2011 18:28

OMG justme so sorry you are going through this, I have had similar problems in Costa Rica. I was going to suggest to you to go to a pharamacy attached to a hospital but it looks like you have already tried this? Do you know what the best hospital in your city is? Can you phone every hospital you know of and ask if they have a pharmacy department that sells Clexane? If Turkey is anything like Costa Rica a lot of problems of this sort are solved by knowing the right person to talk to. Can you ask your family/friends/any Turkish connections you have to help you? Sometimes somebody has a cousin who works in the right department who can help... If the worse comes to the worse, could you afford a flight to another country where you could buy some?

This must be unbelievably stressful for you, try and remember you can overcome any obstacle in your path if its for something you really want. You are a strong lady, you can get through this!

luckyfor2 · 14/02/2011 18:47

Conconuts Just read up on hyperemesis, goodnes you must feel shocking. I hope the antisickness meds make you feel better.
Justme could you get somewhere to post it out to you?

justmee · 14/02/2011 19:02

mummy abroad i know exaclty what you mean its not what you know its who you no same as here :)we have been to evey single pharmacy the hospital doesnt have a pharmasy in it only 3 that are opposite and i tried all them they said you need to order so i said rr thats gr8 fine ill order then they ring this ''depo'' and they say we have have none i said can u not get some sent they said '' impossible we have to wait from our depo '' well i went matnal i was like what do i do now they sed is it important i sed yeah they sed hmm i really dont know rrr jst wanted to cry tbh get a flight wud jst cost me so much money if it comes to it im gonna have to use 4.0 and use half what a valentines day its been for me! :(
