Not so imaginative as lunatic !

Part One HERE

Part Two HERE

There are a mixture of Pg ladies, new BFP's (YAY) and new ladies who have sadly had to join us and are going through testing. Lots of OMW's and hand holding here!

Sit down, grab a cushion and a hot choc and get comfortable.

Hi everyone I hope you don't mind me joining your thread. I've read/skimmed over the last three threads and heard some sad stories and some happy stories. I'm sorry for everyone who is on this thread and happy for everyone who is moving on and lots of luck and love to everyone who has found out that they are pregnant.

I am 32 have two beautiful children age 3 and 5 and have had three mc in the past year. My first mc was in May and I found out at my 12 week scan that the baby had died at 9 weeks. I then lost another baby naturally at 8 weeks in September. My third miscarriage was at the beginning of this month and after been told at my 12 weeks scan that everything looked perfect and to be positive I had a downs test at 13 weeks and everything was as good as possible I went for a routine midwife appointment at 15.5 and there was no heartbeat. I gave birth to my beautiful baby on 11 January.

I am now waiting for results back from my consultant. They took blood from me and DH and they are going to test the baby to find out if they can see anything wrong. They said the tests could take up to 12 weeks but my GP/DH are trying to get them faster. The problem with the tests is that when they went through all the possibilities they dismissed most of them with my circumstances. I have two children which rules out some of the tests and I seem to carry to/past 12 weeks so it rules out most of the hormonal tests. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

I wish tests and appointments and everything could be quicker the hardest thing with all of it is waiting.

reallygrumpy · 26/01/2011 20:48

Hello, sorry to gatecrash, I just wanted to find out how glitterybits scan went. I SO thrilled for you that it was a positive result!

reallygrumpy · 26/01/2011 20:49

Sorry, should be 'I'm' not 'I'!

stillfrazzled · 26/01/2011 21:18

OMG I am NEVER going to catch up.

Have been AWOL this week because I went up to the hospital on Monday morning and was told that I should go home, get overnight stuff and come back for 'rooming in' - spending 48 hours looking after and bfing Finn to see if he could put on weight without tube feeds and fortifier.

Turns out he can Grin only 15g but it was enough. So WE'RE HOME!!!! He still weighs only four pounds, and I'm bloody knackered because he's exceptionally windy and takes about 90 mins to settle after every feed, but he is where he belongs, with us.

Am going to go now and get ready for bed as had four hours' sleep both of the last two nights, but huge congrats to coconuts, ladybee, mummyabroad, Hairy and glittery for all the good news - it was fab to see it all in one go! - hi to everyone else, hang in there Lunatic and I will try to perfect one-handed typing so I can MN while I bf... Grin

Hiya peeps,

So much going on since Saturday. Sorry I missed the scan vigil glittery but I'm so pleased you got a great result. I know only too well the trepidation of the scan. All my MMC have been picked up on a scan and you become expert at reading clues from the radiographer's body language before they show you the screen. Next time (and I'm assuming there will be as that does not seem to be the problem) I am going to wait until 8 weeks for any scan to be done - thus avoiding seeing a HB at 7 weeks only to find that by 8 weeks its gone. I'd rather just get it over with in one hit!

coconuts sounds like super exciting news! I've never had a false positive with the dippy ones - only a false negative. Crack on with the CB - they are very accurate. I'm waiting with baited breath (chewing nails with anticipation)[bgrin]

I went back to work yesterday but had hideous bleed at about 10am so explained this in graphic detail to my squirming boss Wink and was promptly sent home - EPU midwife said to rest so I did. Bleeding had totally stopped this morning and was climbing walls with boredom so decided to try going back to work again and this time was successful.

Next step is to book in with consultant for test discussion. Let's see what he recommends. I reckon it will be all clotting, all hormones, genetic karyotyping for me and DH plus NK cells. Slightly scared about NK cells test as I read that a uterine biopsy is needed to collect the cells for testing - ewww. Can't be any worse than the HSG that you had Mummy but once I know exactly what's in store I'll let you all know.

Laf hope you are doing OK, Banana if you went to the NCT do I hope it wasn't too vile and everyone else who I have missed much love and hugs. You all kept me sane when I was in the darkest place and no one in RL understood.

milkyway2007 · 26/01/2011 23:29

Thanks for everyone who has replied to my message.
This thread is so reassuring, helpful and informative and I wish I had found it last summer after my 3rd miscarriage :(

So I've been reading everyone's messages and I have come across NK cell testing and HSG and there are a whole lot more tests that MummyAbroad has mentioned that I have never even heard of!

The thing is I have no problem conceiving - I conceive the month I try with no problem its just maintaining the pregnancy past 7 weeks. Through experience, would any of you ladies attribute that to hormone deficiency? I've been wondering about prgesterone and Hcg levels.

Another thing that has been playing on my mind is that I was on cerazette for 10 months before getting off it to get pregnant. My periods completely stopped for about 4 months, and I am wondering if that messed up my insides.

Finally, I was working in a lab using chemicals and synthetic peptides, and I sometimes wonder if they have caused some kind of mutation in my genes or something - that's the height of my paranoia!

I would just like to say again, this site has really cheered me up today - just what I need to take my mind of the impending ERPC or natural miscarriage :(

MummyAbroad · 27/01/2011 01:04

stillfrazzled oh more lovely news!! I'm so happy for you. Give him a big squeeze from me and well done you on getting the weight on, hope you're are not too exhausted from it xxxx

Lunatic glad to hear you are OK despite the bleeding. 33 weeks is another milestone! So what other hospital entertainment do you have apart from hiccups and MN? Grin Hope you are not too bored.

coco Envy of new haircut, would love one myself but I keep spending all my cash on doctors. Sigh. Is your mum like mine and can tell when you are lying? Wink

lucky welcome to the thread. What an awful lot of sadness you have had in a short space of time, I am ever so sorry for all you've been through. Is your consultant in a recurrent miscarriage clinic? I would be a bit wary of anyone who is quick to dismiss anything. Was it chromosonal problems that were dismissed because you have children already? If so, that doesnt seem right to me because in each pregnancy there is a chance that the "right" chromosones get passed on instead of the "wrong" ones (assuming there is a problem) Dont be afraid to get a second opinion if you dont get the answers you need. Good that your GP is on your side though.

milky I dont know if hormonal problems are more likely to cause mc at 6 weeks. My mmc was detected at 14 the baby stopped growing at 8 and half. NotsoBB has suspected structural problem (adenomyosis) and has also had early mc's at about the same time as yours, I dont know of any evidence that says early mc = hormonal problem. By the way, those tests are different ways of looking for structural problems - you dont need to do them allGrin sHG (sonohysterogram saline solution inserted in uterus and 3D scan done)is the least invasive, cheapest option, if you are considering doing something privately. If you do, ask for the images to be burned on disk so you can tout it round to other doctors if necessary. If being referred on NHS, doctors will usually send you for HSG (contrast dye inserted in uterus and xray pics taken)

panda glad things seem to have come to and end bleeding wise. I think you are very brave going back to work so soon, hope you are still taking it easy when you can.

would any of the new ladies like to be on our list? If so, just copy and paste it and add yourself in.

MrsMcQ · 27/01/2011 08:44

Thanks for the replies, I'm in northern Ireland so no chance of being referred to St Marys. I don't suppose anyone else is from NI and could advise on where I could be referred to?

Sounds like I'm in a very similar situation to Milkyway, no problem getting pregnant but they have all ended at 6 weeks or earlier.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 27/01/2011 10:10

Morning all, have been out and bought a proper test. Doing it tomorrow when DH is with me so you'll have to wait another day! My only concern is going and telling the doctor. Obviously they do the stupid thing of working it out by your LMP which was 6th December for me which they would get me as about 8 weeks when I only ovulated and potentially conceived a fortnight ago. So how pregnant am I? I feel really sick the past couple of days but tbh I think it's more nerves than morning sickness.

lunatic Grin at the hiccups. Hope the scan and steroids go ok. Only a week to go now, not long at all. I bet DD1 is missing her mummy too but you being there is for the best and you'll all be home as a family before you know it :) Oh I'm a little teary at the thought.

No standing up sex, although I only found out the other week that getting up for a wee after sex makes no difference. I always thought it was detrimental to getting pg as the sperm all fell out! Blush

luckyfor2 welcome but sorry you find yourself here, make yourself at home :)

frazzled a little tear for you too. Gah, hormones! So, so pleased Finn is home safely and is gaining weight. :) :) :)

mummy Yes she always knows when I'm lying. And I had to lie to the hairdresser too as she knows all about my PCOS etc. I've known her since I was about 10 so she's like part of the family. But yes all this lying and staying indoors is going to be hard. DH and I have decided to tell nobody until I can no longer physically hide the evidence... If it gets that far. FX.

banana87 · 27/01/2011 10:13

What? Going to the toilet after having sex is not detrimental to getting pg? Shit shit shit. How did I not know this???

digitalgirl · 27/01/2011 11:14

Just a quickie as am at work and about to go into a meeting, but panda are you getting your NK Cells test done privately? I was told that you can't really get it done on the NHS unless you're with Dr Shehata in Epsom or with Prof Siobhan Quinn at Liverpool Women's. Would love to know if there are other NHS consultants doing this test.

Also - a friend from another MC thread has been part of research trials with Prof Quinn and the full paper should be published May/June time. She is on 20mg of prednisolone after her NK cell levels were deemed high. She's 10wks pg again (after 6mcs and a molar) and just waiting to get to the 12 week scan to see if it's worked.

If I'm not pg by the time this paper is out then I'll be waving it under my consultant's nose (ladybee style) and demanding they do the test to at least rule it out. If it saves me thousands of £££s in private consulatant fees then I can wait 4-5 months.

Right, must dash. But will have a proper catch up later.

ps frazzled yaaaaaaaaaay, Finn's home!

Julezboo · 27/01/2011 11:39

Popping in quickly will do a proper catch up tonight!

Glittery so so thrilled for you!!!!!!!!! :o

Frazzled YAY for Finn being home, what lovely news! How is he settling in?

coconuts can I say congrats yet? :o

Welcome to all the newbies!

lunatic I hope you are still sitting tight!

Things a bit up and down here, Oliver is 12 days old and STILL jaundice, they are threatening him with being admitted next tuesday if it hasnt cleared up! On a positive note, he was weighed yesterday and is now 6lb 9! Which is a jump from the 6lbs 1 he went down too. He is taking 3ozs with most of his feeds now and is the yummiest baby ever! He wakes arouns 3am and then again at 6/7am after being fed at 10/11pm so out sleep isnt too broken. DH is back at work on Monday and I am dreading it! I have started bleeding heavily again and really bad pains today plus I cant drive for another two weeks when DH goes back and we live in the middle of no where so not even places I can walk to with the pram!!!

(I am broody already btw!! Oliver wont be our last I dont think, people say you know when your done and I was convinced I was done when I was pregnant but the thought of not making anymore gorgeous babies like Oliver brings me to tears!)

OP posts:
hairyfairylights · 27/01/2011 11:42

Morning. Very quick update.

HCG 1,307
Progesterone 48.3

slightly bothered that they are not going to repeat the HCG test, but are going to scan me on 4th Feb.

Also slightly worried that progesterone is only .3 more than it was on day 21 but the EPU woman says it doesn't rise Confused - google says it does rise.

But she did say 48 is a healthy value at this stage of pregnancy - between 20 and 30 would be considered a bad sign and below 20 would look like possible ectopic.

hairyfairylights · 27/01/2011 11:42

BUT at this point in time I am 4 plus 6 pregnant.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 27/01/2011 13:06

banana Apparently not. There was a thread on here a few weeks back that I was posting on. I always thought if you were trying to conceive then getting up was the worst thing to do because it all dribbled out (TMI lol!) but I was swiftly corrected saying that the cervix opens slightly to let the jet of semen in when ejaculation happens and it is shot up into the right place immediately so going to the loo or getting up makes no difference. And this is true because I stopped lying there with my legs in the air after being told that. I started going to the loo as normal and I am pregnant. I'll try and find the thread and link you to it but I think it might have been in chat so might have gone by now. I'll have a search.

julez Grin at you being broody already!! Glad Oliver has put some weight on. I really hope you don't end up being admitted but if it really is necessary hopefully it won't take long for him to improve.

hairy I'm surprised they aren't offering a repeat test to see if they are changing. The progesterone level looks quite normal I think from a quick google.

banana87 · 27/01/2011 13:11

Woohoo for admitting you are pregnant Coco!!!

Congratulations to Hairyfairy for admitting it too!!

Lots and lots of sticky vibes coming to both of you!!!

milkyway2007 · 27/01/2011 13:40

Hi mumatron and julezboo and lunatic - I would like to ask you, were your pregnancies with your children healthy and problem free? Because my doctors told me that it is very unlikely I have a blood clotting disorder, because I had my daughter without any trouble, but I see you are all on aspirin, clexane and have been diagnosed with some kind of clotting problem, but have also had healthy babies.

Well I apparently have a bump Hmm Confused

I have a doctor appointment on Weds 2nd Feb as I spoke to the midwife for advice on how pregnant I am and apparently I'll need more care due to the bi-cornuate uterus and PCOS. Apparently the B-C U can cause low birth weight Hmm after my mammoth DD!!

I did another cheapy test today and the line was really dark. I've felt ill all day. So tired, achy, crampy, nauseous and a splitting headache.

Hope everyone is ok :)
