Hi I've been on everol 50 sequi for almost 3 months and some symptoms returning I spoke to GP to see if I could up my dose he explained things well but was reluctant to change my dose and wants to refer me to specialist so in the meantime wondered if anyone had tried magnesium supplement as seems like a good choice for moods anxiety and some other symptoms thanks

Would be interested to hear too. I'm finding mood to be the hardest symptom of all.
Waiting on a dr appointment re HRT. In the meantime I started a peri supplement but it's only got 15% magnesium

MigAndMog · 31/01/2023 12:38

I take Tesco magnesium tablets which give 100% of the normal recommended daily intake. They look like they are currently out of stock though.

nc1013 · 31/01/2023 12:43

Do you find they improve mood swings/crying/rage?

HundredMilesAnHour · 31/01/2023 13:05

As a minimum we should all be taking 400mg of elemental magnesium each day once we hit peri/menopause. It's best to split it across the day so I take some in the morning and some before bed. Magnesium malate is good in the morning and magnesium (bi)glycinate before bed.

Joanne73460 · 31/01/2023 16:25

Thanks for feedback I really want to try these when you say split them between morning and bedtime do you mean cut them in half or buy 2 separate types sorry if this sounds stupid brain fogging

I mean split the dosage so take, for example 200mg in the morning and 200mg in the evening (30 mins before bed). I take 150mg malate in the morning after breakfast and 300mg glycinate before I go to bed. But you can experiment a little to find what split/type works best for you.

There are different types of magnesium and they have different (to some extent) benefits / effects. Magnesium malate is recommended for taking in the morning as it can make you more alert (so don't take it before bed!). Whereas a lot of people find magnesium glycinate helps them sleep so it's a good one to take before bed. Avoid magnesium oxide and magnesium citrate as these can both upset your stomach and are often used to relieve constipation. Magnesium threonate can help anxiety so it's best to be taken in the morning.

ChillTheFuckOut · 01/02/2023 17:03

Ask to be referred to a specialist who can prescribe testosterone. That has got rid of my anxiety.

twitterexile · 01/02/2023 20:32

I think that magnesium is a bit of a wonder supplement for menopause. I take it at night and I sleep incredibly well and feel MUCH less anxious.
My GP checked my magnesium levels before I said I was planning to take it and said I didn't need to take it as my levels were fine. I took it anyway and was genuinely blown away by the difference. Love it.

LoveMyADHD · 01/02/2023 20:35

I take loads but not for menopause symptoms

best magnesium (more easy to absorb) is spray by Ancient Minerals!

does wonders for relaxation and anything related to brain; supports thousands of functions in the body and brain

KangarooKenny · 01/02/2023 21:20

I’ve been reading a lot on magnesium, and the recommended dose is 500mg.
I take L-Threonate and it has definitely helped my meno brain and sleep.

twitterexile · 01/02/2023 21:48

I will try this!

KangarooKenny · 01/02/2023 21:52

Be careful which magnesium you take, some of it is used as laxatives.

Joanne73460 · 06/02/2023 15:07

As I have to wait to see a specialist as well as mood swings/tiredness I've also been getting hot flushes and terrible sweatiness been looking at sage supplements but can I take these alongside hrt anyone else tried them thanks

@KangarooKenny may I ask which brand do you take? L threonate is so expensive 😒

ImAvingOops · 06/02/2023 15:42

I take 2 of these every day. I am also on the Evorel Sequi but add in one extra pump of oestrogel every day.
I think the magnesium helps with sleep - I certainly feel less anxious but don't know if that's the magnesium or the HRT.

@HundredMilesAnHour, thank you so, so much for posting this. After reading your advice last week I ordered the magnesium glycinate. Took it for the last five nights...and slept through three out if those five (fell back asleep easily on the other two). This after years of sleep troubles, and especially bad insomnia over the last few months (we are talking 3 hrs max every night). Previous experiments with magnesium citrate brought nothing, so I had actually given up. I could cry with joy. Please know you've made a huge difference 😘👌

ImAvingOops · 06/02/2023 15:54

I think I'm going to order the glycinate now and see what I like best.

Hepatica from Amazon. The trouble is that I’m not taking 500mg with that one.
If anyone knows of one that is I’d be grateful to know.
Im thinking of adding in another one to make it up to 500

ghettihead · 06/02/2023 16:10

Magnesium has stopped my restless legs. It is wonderful

I'm so pleased it helped you @Cosmetichamster. You've made my day. 😀

bluecrayola · 06/02/2023 20:36

@HundredMilesAnHour where do you get your magnesium supplements from please? I'm in exactly the same state of not sleeping as Cosmetichamster and am also hoping for a miracle.

54isanopendoor · 06/02/2023 20:43

Oh, so glad I've found this thread.

I use Barefoot Nutrition's Magnesium Glycinate and I get it from Amazon.

www.amazon.co.uk/Barefoot-Nutrition-Magnesium-Glycinate-Supplement/dp/B07TYJKPH8

I sometimes take JP Dream Sleep before bed (it's magnesium plus other minerals) and it's AMAZING! But it's more expensive. So I'd try magnesium on its own first and if that still doesn't help, try the Dream Sleep. I gave some Dream Sleep to a friend to try when we were away together one weekend and she also found it amazing and ordered some for herself. This is the cheapest place I've found to get it from:

www.dolphinfitness.co.uk/en/trained-by-jp-dream-sleep-120-capsules/312737

(I have a friend who's a nutritionist as well as a former bodybuilder and personal trainer so he really knows his supplements, and he's the one who told me about Dream Sleep.)
