My mum just arrived and let herself in. Apparenty DS rang her whilst I was in the shower and didn;t hang up so she couldn't call back to check I was OK. She arrived thinking I had fallen down the stairs and instructed DS to call (he's not actually smart enough yet to understand numbers!)

Better than the police I guess.

Hi all.

This lovely Japanese hairdresser came to our house last weekend to cut DS and my hair for the second time. DS of course cried and kept saying no to her but somehow she managed it. DS has very straight and thick hair like mine so I'm certain he will not go bald when he's old.

CovenOVeneer · 01/11/2007 16:07

Both mine were baldies until much older. DD had her first hair cut just before she was 3 then her 2nd o couple of weeks later, (performed by herself and ruining the beautiful bob which took a further 18 months until the section she had cut off "caught up" with the rest of it again ).

guyfoxsetsparlaimentalight · 01/11/2007 19:45

SJ I wish I'd known about the shaving thing when DD was a baby, as her hair is very fine. I can't realy shave it now at the age of 4 it might look a bit funny with the school uniform

Anyway why is everyone ignoring me?

Questions posed earlier:

CoV - is it DS2'sdark blue fleecy all in oneI left at yours?

QC - do you still have a spare stairgate?

rosmerta · 01/11/2007 19:55

what? who? is someone posting here?

guyfoxsetsparlaimentalight · 01/11/2007 19:57

..Come on baby light my fire..

Kewcumber · 01/11/2007 20:03

lots of asian cultures cut/shave hair off at about 1yr but its an old wives tale I'm afriad - what kind of hair you have is genetic it doesn;t get less fine because you cut it. The theory is that it looks less fine because you have cut the wispy thin ends off and they are blunter so look thicker.

Foxie yes I do have a stairgate but the missing bit is not screw its a plastic thing but am pretty sure its in the car somewhere so will try to dig it out tomorrow and can drop it off over the weekend.

Only kidding - perhaps can try to meet up shortly or you can pop over one evening when DH is home and pick it up

Kew. I see you're signed up for the Christmas dooooo. I'm looking forward to meeting you and any other Westerners.

Foxy. Did you make it out to Barcelona at half-term?

sfxmum · 01/11/2007 20:41

evening all

one advantage of this hr change is that dd is
asleep by 8pm instead of 9 and I really appreciated that today, the little monkey.

am off to put feet up listen to music and read glossy mags

night night

ComeOVeneer · 01/11/2007 21:02

Hi all, still feeling rotten but I think I am on the mend. Foxy, sorry I missed you post re the coat, I have been ill all week so haven't made it to the post office to send it too you. We are heading over to dh's parents on Saturday (not sure what time) but I will pop it through your door if that is ok. Do me a favour and send me an email to remind me.

rosmerta · 01/11/2007 21:08

sorry you're not feeling any better Cov

Kew, probably have to be at the night out next Thurs as I'm off up to my mum and dad's this weekend. But obviously understand if you don't fancy carting a book around!

Yep, this weekend is the great train experiment of me going up to my parents with ds by train!

And on a slighly unrelated note, does anyone else find it really hard to pick a paint colour from the samples? They honestly never look the same when they're painted on the wall!

Kewcumber · 01/11/2007 21:12

never pick paint from samples. Always always buy a gazzillion paint pots and paint a patchwork on your walls (in more than one place so you see it in differnt lights)

lemonaidtreasonandplot · 01/11/2007 21:18

Agree with Kew. And you need nice big patches, too (at least a metre square, not a piddling little splodge).

stepfordwife · 01/11/2007 21:27

.. that's it..then you bore everyone who comes round rigid with your tortured ditherings over burnt orange/scorched saffron/smouldering sunflower..
before plumping for....cream.

guyfoxsetsparlaimentalight · 01/11/2007 21:43

Agree about painting big patches and looking at it in different lights. Those cards are rubbish

Top tip: if you like the "posh" paints (e.g. Farrow and Ball or Fired Earth) choose your colour then get Homebase to mix up the same colour with their base paint. It'll save you ££££'s!!! Plus the kids love watching the Homebase paint man make the paint in his "magic" paint machine

Thanks QC/CoV- CoV I felt a bit guilty asking as I know you are really poorly, but his other fleecy thing smells of sick and I have no other all-in-ones he can wear while I wash the sicky one IYKWIM . Also he will grow out of both inabout 4 weeks

Bubble - nice to see you [waves] - no we didn't make Barcelona to see E&G&M&E, 'cos I spent the holiday money on a new driveway/dropped curb!!!

Steppy - DH has put the gate up (the wodden one) the white one s too wide so I will drop it back to you. Your stairs must be wider than ours

I stayed off the "remember hols in Irland when we were kids" thread as we never went there as kids and I am

DS2 is really getting about no at some fair speed!!

guyfoxsetsparlaimentalight · 01/11/2007 21:49

BTW can someone text me on Saturday to remind me to e-mail CoV to remind her about the fleecy thing I forgot and left at her house please?

guyfoxsetsparlaimentalight · 01/11/2007 21:51

QC do you know how wide your stair gate is? I think we need the 70-76cm, not the 77-81cm ...

rosmerta · 01/11/2007 21:51

Yep, we've bought the pots & painted patches everywhere but still we seem to end up with varying shades of white!

But think we've finally come across one we both like, and its....cream

sfxmum · 02/11/2007 09:10

morning all

ros LOL at paint choosing

I shall not make any plans today just see what happens

hope everyone ok and if not at least getting better

SushiMummy · 02/11/2007 10:00

Morning all.

LOL ros!

Just when I thought DS was getting better, DS's temperature surged last night, I gave him Neurofen but he spat most of it out. He seemed better this morning (no temp and eating) so I took him to nursery. Although he was fine there but I felt awfully guilty. I am half expecting a call from the nursery any minute now.

CoV, hope you are feeling better now. Are you on AB?

QC, hope you had a nice family day yesterday.

ComeOVeneer · 02/11/2007 10:54

Sorry to hear ds isn't well, Sushi. Yes I am on AB's now (2 different lots) and this morning I am beginning to feel some improvement. Trouble is that because it has gone onto my chest I have a hacking cough, which then hurts my already raw throat, and increases the pain in my already tender sinuses, but don't want to take a cough supressant as I want to clear my chest asap. (Can you tell I am feeling sorry for myself? ) To make things worse I have felt so lousy all week that I have done the basics to keep things going so my house is a tip, I am getting behind on the laundry, and you all know what I am like (have now developed a nervous twitch as a result ).

ComeOVeneer · 02/11/2007 11:48

Foxie, I have put ds2's coat in the bag I use to take ds's stuff when we go out for they day so that will jog my memory when I load it up on Sat morning.
