West London - October thread

My mum just arrived and let herself in. Apparenty DS rang her whilst I was in the shower and didn;t hang up so she couldn't call back to check I was OK. She arrived thinking I had fallen down the stairs and instructed DS to call (he's not actually smart enough yet to understand numbers!)

Better than the police I guess.

ExpLEUSIveS · 01/11/2007 10:16

Is this better?

lemonaidtreasonandplot · 01/11/2007 10:17

Good name, definitely. The standard is high this year...

CovenOVeneer · 01/11/2007 10:21

Morning all. Just back from the doctors I have sinusitis, a chest infection and tonsilitis (no wonder I feel so lousy), also had a blood test to check for anaemia as I have been catching every bug going. Atleast I have the morning to myself.

lemonaidtreasonandplot · 01/11/2007 10:28

Poor COV. Tuck yourself up for the morning with a nice book/DVD/glass of something.

stepfordwife · 01/11/2007 11:02

paddle - so sorry you've got a sad day. think sfx is right about 2cute - she'll be in touch when she's ready, but you obviously know her better than i do. do you know anyone you could contact to see if she's ok - maybe her brother who txted you?

guyfoxsetsparlaimentalight · 01/11/2007 12:52

Like the names Ele and Lemon

Kewcumber · 01/11/2007 13:53

Steppie - its so nice for them to be at the same childminder. I do say "ohh you're going to play with Stepforddaughter today", so she does get some advance PR!

SJ99 · 01/11/2007 13:54

Hi All

Like the name changes!

Hope it goes well today Paddle

Sorry to hear you're ill COV

SFX - hope you manage to get out of the house at some point without any more drama

Kew I wasn't aware of that rule but will bear it in mind for future. In a bizarre Jerry Springer type of way it turns out my friend is after his ex who he dumped a week before their wedding 2yrs ago. She wants him back too and this would all be very sweet but she is expecting someone else's baby And the other friend I met is now seeing someone 10yrs younger. I go away for a few years and look what happens
It was fun night though and really nice to catch up.

Took Ds for haircut #7 this morning (that's when I saw you PC!) Imagine if I'd never cut his hair it would be half down his back by now

stepfordwife · 01/11/2007 14:06

and, funnily enough, kew i say to dd:'ooohh, you're going to play with kewSon today..."

hope your day going better, sfx...
a fab thread on "what did you think was posh when you were a kid" will cheer you up.

sadly, it's totally distracted me from my (very pressing) work
but
a) it's funny
B) interesting how you can tell people's ages from their choices

also a good spin-off thread about where in ireland 2nd generation irish kids dragged for ther summer as other thread seemed to attrcat a lot of us for some reason...

sfxmum · 01/11/2007 14:06

SJ that does indeed sound very G. Springer although why anyone one want someone back who dropped them so close to the wedding?

dd still up to her I am not going out it is snowingthough now because tesco is due in about 1hr, moght have to go for a walk once dh in

lemon - is the naming ceremony for ds1 or dc2?
it does sound stressful when you are trying to do a nice thing with meaning for the family.
I know we can't choose family but really they are generally a pain

stepfordwife · 01/11/2007 14:07

SJ - i didn't get ds1's hair cut until he was 3! he had beautiful blond ringlets. sadly, they're no more.

sfxmum · 01/11/2007 14:10

thanks for the tip steppie

am so not subjecting my child to a trip back home much to dh's disappointment but no I know what that place is like

Kewcumber · 01/11/2007 14:14

sj - if I'd had DS's hair cut seven times he'd be bald by now! Not sure if its due to his prematurity but his has was (and is) very slow to grow, I have only trimmed a little off the edges once, thats all.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 01/11/2007 14:15

hi all, am back to normal now but sadly cannot think of a very fireworky name!

Sj, did your friends tales bring back memories of what it was like to have a life? , nothing like living vicariously through others!

Ds sounds like he might be waking up, was hoping for at least another half-hour. We're off swimming this afternoon to Richmond if anyone would like to join us & then have to go and get some paint samples. Dh went last night and came back with three types of white paint

ExpLEUSIveS · 01/11/2007 14:15

Kew DD was 2 1/2 when she had her first haircut. Baldy locks, I tell ya.

ExpLEUSIveS · 01/11/2007 14:16

You could be roastmerta.

stepfordwife · 01/11/2007 14:17

..dd hasn't had a haircut yet at 2-and-a-half, ele!
want her to grow some proper hair first..
of course, my ma harps on about cutting it as that makes it thicker
old wives' tale, surely?

stepfordwife · 01/11/2007 14:18

roastmerta - liking your work, ele

stepfordwife · 01/11/2007 14:19

..not worried, tho.
i hardly had any hair until i was 2 and now the stuff bloody pours out of my head

rosmerta · 01/11/2007 14:22

steppie, not sure if it is an old wives tale, ds had very fine hair until we started cutting it. He's had 3 now and it comes through thicker each time! But that could just be ds!

SJ99 · 01/11/2007 14:23

They shave the baby's head when they are 1mth old in India as they say it grows better afterwards. I didn't do that for DS though. Anyway just think of all the cash you girls are saving from not having all these haircuts

Yes it was funny catching up on all the stories and reminiscing on the good old days. I think she is pretty nuts for wanting to go back out with him (even though he'sa dear friend) but she mustn't like her current BF as much, who knows??!

Will pass on swim as lessons start tom, so might head out to park later instead as weather is so mild

stepfordwife · 01/11/2007 14:28

ros - actually sod dd's (lack of) hair...it's me who needs urgent hairdresser treatment

sj, the times i was asked if i'd shaved my (respective) baldy babies' heads..so maybe it does make hair grow quicker, then.

sfxmum · 01/11/2007 14:34

dd has very fine wispy hair and I just trim her fringe. doubtless granny will disagree and say I must cut it at once for it to grow stronger.

ros - blast she might be right after all
