That's odd. At my surgery, the GP does the 6-week check and dd had bcg vaccine at 3 months as they could fit her in when we got back from Msia and she had her 6-week check afters.

Things are so variable with surgeries. I had thought it was all standard.

I better ring up my surgery to get appts for dd's jabs. She's been missing all jabs she needed while I was working.

I'm a quivering mass of nerves because I have to take a driving test to get my driver's licence.

The last time I drove was in the US 12 years ago.

I've finally realise that I do need a driver's licence. I hate driving and I'm really not looking forward to it.

why don;t you book a couple of lessons with a proper teahcer Mellow - will boost your confidence no end. You shouldn't be nervous about driving, the only important thing is not to it anything, everything else is just icing . Its better driving in London because there's so much trafiic you can't go fast enough to do any damage.

suejonez · 08/05/2007 14:02

not to hit anything obviously!

Eleusis · 08/05/2007 14:14

Mellow, I suggest some driving lessons as well. The instructor can give you tips on what they will look for in the test. And also he can advise a good test centre. I did Weybridge which was pretty good if you are comfortable with roundabouts.

mellow2 · 08/05/2007 14:29

Ele,
I had the same idea. Get a few lessons and get some driving test tips. But they cost £25 onwards and we're skint atm.

Sue,
I'll try not to hit anything when I take the test.

Hello all

Had a fantastic weekend away. Weather was fantastic and kids had blast. I DEFINATELY recommend Center Parcs Longleat Forest for families. I was a bit reluctant at first because it was feckin pricey but it was well worth it when seeing how happy the kids were and how lovely the villa was. There's a spa so the kids can be left at the kiddy club and parents pampered. (Anyone'd think I'm one of their sales people the way I'm carrying on!) If anyone does ever think of going, I'd be happy to advise.

How was BigD's party?

Mellow - Good luck with the test. If you're DH drives, could he take you for brief lessons to build your confidence up?

Sue - Glad DS is better.

mellow2 · 08/05/2007 15:07

Anyhow, can anyone recommend a driving instructor?

hi everyone
how you all diddling?

foxie and paddle - what a bummer. orange phone and dr's surgery rage!

mellow - know exactly where you're coming from. i haven't driven properly (not that i ever could drive properly) for 10 years. know i should take refresher lessons (and one day will do it) but, much as i hate to admit it, am scared of driving, especially now got 3 kids and a bradybunchmobile.

sue - have just sent you an email
toodlepip

suejonez · 08/05/2007 15:51

steppy - waved at a strange woman in your bedroom window yesterday before I realised it wasn't you

pudding77 · 08/05/2007 15:55

oohhh, I could never go for driving lessons with dh, we would end up killing each other!

I'm feeling rather smug atm, needed a few bits but instead of Tesco's I went to Northfields & used the baker & butcher there instead [smug face]!

mellow2 · 08/05/2007 16:27

I think we would probably end up killing each other. We met at work and we used to fight over work until I left the company.

sue
that would have been my ma....always telling her how friendly people are around here

stepfordwife · 08/05/2007 16:49

er...she's a fine-looking woman and all, but, sue,EXACTLY how long did it take you to realise that white-haired vision in the window wasn't me?

suejonez · 08/05/2007 16:54

it was a funny angle and the sun was in my eyes and I was in a hurry...

stepfordwife · 08/05/2007 16:57

yeah, right..

quokka · 08/05/2007 19:21

busy busy busy! After you left pc I had another viewing, then a friend popped round for a cuppa, and the phone didn't stop ringing! Going to sit down now and have a large glass of wine.

quokka · 08/05/2007 19:26

It took me 2 goes to get my licence ended up getting it in a small country town, with 2 coppers. I drove one around the block and he gave me my licence even though I forgot to put my seatbelt on .

Paddlechick666 · 08/05/2007 20:33

quokka, you ain't gonna know what to do with yourself once you hit that condo and pool!

i bet your friend got a better cuppa than you did - i'm crap at making tea.

foxcub · 08/05/2007 20:54

no you're not

Paddlechick666 · 08/05/2007 20:57

actually, she'll have shed loads to keep her busy coz she's gonna be washing that guest room linen constantly!

no point in having friends in hot places if ya don't visit eh!

Eleusis · 08/05/2007 21:17

Hey, does anyone know the name of the cafe/craft place in Hampton. I'm trying to put together a list of things for the new nanny to do with the kids this summer. But, I can't think of the name of the place. It's on Station Road in HAmpton.

foxcub · 09/05/2007 09:11

Morning everyone

Droppped a copmplaint off at the Gps last night and they just rang saying they will make a "special arrangement" for us and give DS2 his baby check Friday morning, followed by his jabs.

...don't know why they could just have done that in the first place.

oh no, that would have been far too helpful and efficient wouldn't it?

[grumpy but secretly pleased]

MrsRecycle · 09/05/2007 09:14

Good news - ds' blood test was fine [relief emotion] and the paed has discharged us so no more trips to the hospital. At long last I can enjoy ds and not worry about him.

foxie - my wonderful doc did mine and ds' 6 week check-up. As for my HV I never saw her, they kept on closing the clinics so I had to travel 5 miles to get ds weighed. The only time I heard from her was when she saw the discharge notice from Great Ormond Street and decided to panic. Too bloody late. I know alot about NICE and maternity guidelines. So ring up your Doctor's surgery and say that under NICE Clinical Guideline 37 "Parents should be offered routine immunisations for their baby according the schedule recommended by the Department of Health". If they refuse say that you will escalate the matter to your PCT and the NICE Clinical Governance Audit, Policy & Procedures time. This should get them worried (make sure you speak to the Practice Manager).

ele - it took me 3 attempts to pass my test at Weybridge. Too many hill starts and lots and lots of parked cars outside the centre were not good for me. Mind you that was 25 years ago so it might have changed. Apparently the best one for passing is Croydon. I believe there is one in Perivale thats meant to be okay as well.

suejonez · 09/05/2007 09:17

SFx - I think my mum is going to try DS at boogie tots in OMthercare today (even though he is a bit young she has said to bring ihm along and try him) - if you go and you see them say hello for me
