Time for a new general chat thread

HAPPY NEW YEAR

OP posts:
sfxmum · 01/02/2007 08:21

oh sue wish i could say yes but i can't guarantee a time this morning, over the last couple of days dd has exploded into full on toddler mode, she refuses loudly to change from pj's cries bitterly when i get her dresses and so on, it's along process, although i am sure it will pass soon enough
and i woke her up early after a disturbed night to try and have a chance of an early nap/sleep.
bit tired and frazzled today

how is everyone? hope things calmer

sfxmum · 01/02/2007 08:22

dressed even, she wants nappy only, strange child of mine

quokka · 01/02/2007 08:55

I can come Sue, will only have ds2, so same age as your ds. I can bring the stairgate and the vouchers for you as well? Do you just want to do M&S cafe, or your place (or mine)?

pudding77 · 01/02/2007 09:33

I can't do this Friday Sue, off to tour a nursery and bombard them with all the questions lemonaid & uwila gave me!

Lemonaid - that post is so funny, I read it last night with dh trying to figure out what was going on!

2Cute · 01/02/2007 09:46

Sue - Would have loved to meet you and Daniel 2morrow but busy with DH tomorrow.

Thank you for the party venue suggestions .

Quokka - £100 including food, that's really good value.

Foxi - I had considered Snakes & Ladders, most of our friend's have their LO's birthdays there. It's just that it's too manic on weekends.

I've found a few halls but usually people would hire a bouncy castle type thing for the kids but my DS has always been scared of them for some reason

We're off to London Aqaurium in the afternoon if I manage to force myself out of the house.

Have a good day all!

lemonaid · 01/02/2007 10:05

DS enjoys the ray-bothering tank at the Aquarium...

foxabout2pop · 01/02/2007 10:26

2 cute - enjoy the aquarium I've always wanted to go there

mellow2 · 01/02/2007 10:27

I've had a sleepless night last night. Dd had a high temperature last night and I gave her some Calpol. Boots temperature strip was 38 degrees. It wasn't the most accurate. She was stil asleep this morning at 9:40 am when I rang home.

Is it okay to keep giving her Calpol throughout the day if she still has a temperature?

I'm a bit worried 'cos I don't know why she's got a temperature. I hope she's teething.

Hi sue, [waves]
I was at the Turkish restaurant meet-up in November but I don't think we spoke. Glad to hear your ds is settling in.

pudding77 · 01/02/2007 10:33

Hi mellow, poor dd. If ds has had a temperature I have given him Calpol during the day roughly about every 4-6 hours. If there doesn't seem to be anything else wrong, I would think that it's either teething or maybe the beginning of a cold.

Obviously I'm not hugely experienced but that's based on my ds!

quokka · 01/02/2007 10:44

Mellow keep up the calpol, if its not bringing her temp down then you need to give Nurofen for children with calpol, they work really well together to get temps down quickly.

foxabout2pop · 01/02/2007 10:49

mellow - just echoing what Quokka said about combining Nurofen/Calpol - tends to work a treat with mine. Its fine to give calpol during today - just stick to the instructions on the bottle as to how often/how much in a 24 hour period and she'll be fine, poor wee thing!

uwila · 01/02/2007 10:53

Agree with nurofen recommendation. Also, nurofen lasts longer than calpol so it's good for nighttime.

We all have cold in my house. Kids both had fevers earlier in the week. So maybe she has a lovely cold coming on.

quokka · 01/02/2007 10:55

Foxy have you had your tour yet? I had the big room with the birthing pool and mirror ball with ds1 and with ds2 I had the small room with the bean bag and hammock hanging from the ceiling .

quokka · 01/02/2007 10:56

uwila whats the uptake on the london night out?

Nanou1 · 01/02/2007 11:28

hi guys. quick hello. i agree with calpol and nurofen. poor little thing; she'll get better in no time with that. thanks for hugs last night. well it's not official yet so let us wait. it's because we sold 2 properties so taxed on that but it was to paid our debts... aaagghhh. uwila - tried to call you but mobile number i had seems wrong for some reason? looking at renting 1. to pay less than our mortgage and 2. to be closer to dd's new school for sep 08. 2. we have been offered to apply for CoE playgroup and it is highly recommended. 3. looking at shared nanny / childminder to lower childcare costs until dd goes to school. if we dont take drastic action, we can wave goodbye to ivf for new baby and we are both getting broody as dd is growing so fast. basically we need min 10K saving and dh work may stop in july so we need to be prepared for that too.... anyway... this is my lot at the mo! have a good day all. x

foxabout2pop · 01/02/2007 11:33

quokka - a hammock? Did you swing in it?

Nanou- we have financial problems too atm so I do sympathise. DH won't have work after June which is bloody bad timing TBH . Looking at getting a lodger and maybe me having to go back to work much earlier than I want too

uwila · 01/02/2007 11:39

Oh, Nanou1. I'm so sorry.

But I can totally sympathise with big rent can't afford a mortgage dilemma. It stinks. But, hey, I gues that's just the way it is.

£10,000 for IVF?!?!?! I think my SIL was offered it for much less (privately)? Can you shop around? Can you get it in France? Are these stupid questions you have already thought about?

Sorry, Foxy. I had to go back to work when DD was 2 weeks old cause we needed the money. So, I sympathise. Does this mean he will be looking after the kids while you work? Or is he hot on the trail seeking new employment?

Quokka, I'm not going to comment on the swinging.

suejonezisdanielsmummy · 01/02/2007 11:40

Quokka - happy to do either M&S or my place (depends how good you want the coffee to be). Daniel is a bit more settled now so seems happy to be out in cafes. What time do you want to do?

Uwila - couldn't you find an important meeting to go to in Kew for an hour and join us?

SFX - why don't you play it by ear and join us if you can.

Foxie will be working from home a bit in feb and a few hours in the office and will go back part-time in March so we might be able to meet up depending on your mobility!

uwila · 01/02/2007 11:45

I've e-mailed you Nanou.

uwila · 01/02/2007 11:46

Oh oh oh... if you do lunch on Kew Green, I can come. What about the Pizza Express?

quokka · 01/02/2007 11:51

why don't we do you place that way I can hand over the stairgate? This is depending on my car situation, as trying to pay the tax but the DVLA are on strike at the mo, which makes it quite difficult!!!

The hammock wasn't used for laying and swinging, more of a gripping apparatus for squatting when pushing. Uwila I can see you pulling faces and asking "but why would you want to do it like that!"

uwila · 01/02/2007 11:51

Do you still need the trousers for 12m. I can look tonight. Oh, I'm excited now. Please please please please please P L E A S E.... go to Kew Green.

uwila · 01/02/2007 11:53

Quokka the squatter.

uwila · 01/02/2007 11:53

Kew GREEN

PLEASE

quokka · 01/02/2007 11:55

you talking about tomorrow Uwila? Do you by any chance want to meet the little fella?
