Hi,

Is there anyone around from Exeter? I'm 26 and have a 15 week old daughter, so I've just come out of the exhausting newborn stage and would love to meet up with some other mums

OP posts:

Yes I'm afraid ohgodohgod was me, I've never been very good at the namechanging for anonymity thing, I always forget and give the game away

Fennel, if you don't mind my asking, why do you think my ds1 is at the preschool where your dd goes to nursery? Do we know each other?

fennel · 19/10/2006 12:31

It was just something you posted once about the type of preschool your ds went to. and you'd already said you lived in St Thomas. and as far as I know there's only that one preschool like that around. though I may be wrong.

am trying not to be too specific really here. have CATed you about Essbee anyway.

fennel · 19/10/2006 12:32

Hope you are not feeling paranoid I don't think I've ever met you Greensleeves.

Greensleeves · 19/10/2006 12:35

OK - haven't got the CAT yet, sometimes they take a while to come through.

We must meet though, it would be very nice to meet you.

fennel · 19/10/2006 12:38

CATs can take a while. I hope it comes as I don't really want to post it here publically but it's about tomorrow and Essbee.

I am looking forward to meeting you Greensleeves, that's if we haven't already.

Walnutshell · 19/10/2006 15:01

As I think I may have led this one astray, I will take some responsiblity for getting us all back on track! So, alhtough i'm not yet in Exeter, come on ladies, stay in touch! I like to know what's going on down there!

Oh, ds is banging foot most rhymically against floor in tune to Radio 1. ah, and now his head, I'd better attend.

lesleyworm · 25/10/2006 18:54

Have been on hols so only just checked the reponses and would like to say thanks to Fennel, Baysmum and Walnutshell for the reassurances on moving down here. I guess I will keep plodding along with the toddler groups for now and hope to meet more people that way. I have to say that so far I am enjoying Exeter and little things make all the difference, for instance people talk and smile at you, which when you are from London takes a while to get used to...

One question, here anyone here ever met up with anyone from MN or do you use the site more for online chatting? I have met a couple of mums through another well known website (better not say, but I am sure you can guess which one!) though didn't know if this site really encouraged this???

fennel · 29/10/2006 20:46

lesleyworm some people are trying to organise meet-ups in Real Life in Exeter. Essbee started a thread about a Christmas night out

and some of us were trying to meet up one daytime. though I don't know what's happening about that.

fennel · 29/10/2006 20:47

but I see you've just posted on that thread saying you can't make that date!

sorry.

Walnutshell · 30/10/2006 09:43

Lesleyworm, I'll let you research the toddler groups for when I (eventually) get to Exeter! (Or around that way)... Currently sweating over how to manage on one salary...

candytuft · 02/11/2006 10:17

Hi,

this is my first post. I'm in Exeter and I go to a nice toddler group in Newtown. It meets on a Friday morning from 10am-12. I think it is called St Matthews Toddler Group. It is near the Triangle Car Park. There is a church hall with a big metal gate across the road from the car park (surrounded by tall hedges) and you will find the group there. The hall is HUGE and there are lots of different areas to play in (art+craft, baby toy zone, trains, silde+baby trampoline, etc). In warmer weather the children can play outside. The mums are nice, welcoming and friendly - which is more than i can say for some groups I've been to!

Tea,drinks and biscuits available

The other good thing is because of it's location, you meet mums from different areas (Newtown, St Leonards, Mount Pleasant).

lesleyworm · 02/11/2006 14:11

Yes, unfortunately can't make the meet up on the Christmas night out, but would definitely be on for meeting up one day a week. Any day fine with me as am not working (yet and trying to avoid if at all possible, though not likely!)
Walnutshell, when are you arriving in Exeter?
Candytuft, the Newtown toddler group sounds good. Maybe I will see you there.

Walnutshell · 02/11/2006 21:48

Hi LWorm, hoping to get to Exeter (or nearby area) within next 6-8 months, house sale and house hunt permitting! Dh in process of transferring job and we won't put house on market until Jan earliest. However, I feel I have already left where I am and my heart lies in Devon!

Candytuft, welcome to thread and might meet up one day when I'm a bit more in the area! x

Cassoulet · 02/11/2006 21:55

I'm near Exeter - Honiton. Can I hijack for a mo? Looking for a public firework display, pref Sunday eve or else Fri. Anyone know of one? We can use a car on those nights, but the only thing I can find is at Lyme Regis on The Cobb on Sat and I've no idea how to get dd there and back on pub. trans.

Crackle · 02/11/2006 22:34

We always went to the one at Exmouth Rugby Club. AbFab every year - huge display set to music. Plenty of parking by the swimming pool and train station.

Really great fun.

Cassoulet · 02/11/2006 22:37

thanks crackle, I'll get on to it. Sounds exactly right.

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOT · 02/11/2006 22:40

We go to the Round Table display at St Loyes, opposite Burnthouse Lane, it's a really big display and we've loved it both times we've been.

Cassoulet · 02/11/2006 23:32

Thanks Gunpowder, that one looks perfect too! Will talk to dh about both when he wakes up (he's "watching" newsnight!).

fennel · 03/11/2006 10:06

Oh good, we've been looking for firework displays to go to and got a bit stuck. there's one at our local pub on Sunday evening but we need one for visitors on Saturday evening. Preferably something quite big and dramatic, somewhere like the Quays or Exmouth.

What day are the Exmouth and St Loyes shows on?

Baysmum · 03/11/2006 11:39

Hey, the St Loyes one is on Sun nite, gates open at 5.30 and I think the fireworks are at about 7pm. We're going to go to the park behind st Loyes to watch as am not sure what ds reaction will be (we're not cheapskates really)!!

lesleyworm · 06/11/2006 21:23

A bit late for this posting I know, but there was supposed to be a good one at the Double Locks, the pub on the canal. I say "supposed to be" since we were going to go until dd had the almightiest strop and we ended up at home watching the neighbour's fireworks from our window. Don't you just love kids?? Hope everyone else had a good night.
Walnutshell - Devon is definitely the way to go!!!!

fennel · 07/11/2006 08:32

the double locks one would have been lovely! perhaps next year....

hope everyone is signing up for the xmas meal out on that other thread.

and if anyone does want to meet up during the day what about this Friday daytime, maybe at Dinkys, the new soft play cafe?

lesleyworm · 08/11/2006 18:50

I would be up for meeting at Dinky's (good name) depending on what time you were going (I have a few boring things I have to get done on Friday).

fennel · 08/11/2006 22:07

Maybe 10.30 ish? or lunchtime if that's easier.

fennel · 09/11/2006 13:31

bumping for anyone else interested in meeting tomorrow daytime
