If I have time I'll pick up from you MrsBigD - will know more tomorrow about whether I'm travlling imminantly

fatfox · 19/09/2006 05:57

Sue - I have loads of boys and girls stuff 0-6 years. Problem is, I don't even get time to scratch my bum at the moment, let alone go upstairs and rifle amongst the bags in the attic

I will get round to it honest; I'm kind of planning that when you get back with LO and know the size etc you can come round and have a rifle yourself and pick out stuff you want

fatfox · 19/09/2006 05:58

...and when you do, I get to hold your LO

xoxoxo · 19/09/2006 08:06

suej: if you are around on friday I cd drop off the stuff I ahve for you

suejoneziscalmernow · 19/09/2006 15:57

Oh bum - no letter of invitation for my visa - looks like departure date will be delayed again.

Bum. Bum, bum, bum.

At this rate I will be around on 19th Oct!

Uwila · 19/09/2006 16:07

Oh no. Well, in that case, I'm not going. You are scary scary scary.

^^

suejoneziscalmernow · 19/09/2006 16:16

I am going to get a LOT scarier if they don;t give me this bloody letter soon.

lemonaid · 19/09/2006 17:09

SJ - Grrr! It seems so stupid that you can get this far and then one lousy letter is holding everything up. Is there a fast-track procedure for visas at all?

BTW, When you see Wendy tonight can you tell her that I've double-checked dates and 3rd, 5th and 6th October would all be OK?

Or I could call her again, obviously, but don't want to interrupt her bridge preparations for a minor detail...

suejoneziscalmernow · 19/09/2006 17:12

My sisters bridge preparation consists of emptying packets into bowls so do call her if you like (but before 8 when we start playing!).

Problem is not the visa (which they will do same day) but the special bit of paper provided by the region I'm going to which allows me to travel out on my own but back with a baby. Tis a sensible provision to avoid child trafficking/kidnapping etc but they are being very slow to issue letter.

lemonaid · 19/09/2006 17:17

P.S. I think I quite like being lemon for short (from other thread). Gives me a lovely warm feeling...

I play bridge about once a year so my preparation always consists of desperately trying to remember it all from scratch in the day or so beforehand...

suejoneziscalmernow · 19/09/2006 17:20

Oh lord - don't ever play with my sister and I then, when we partner each other we are a little, errr, how can I say, um, competitive. Hard to beleive, I know.

Cackling and whooping isn't generally considered good form in bridge

lemonaid · 19/09/2006 17:30

That's generally been my problem -- a lack of enough completely clueless bridge numpties to play with, and if I end up partnering someone who does know what they are doing they say that they don't mind my making silly mistakes and learning, but I can see the competitice demon lurking behind their eyes... (shudder)

suejoneziscalmernow · 19/09/2006 17:33

actually we're very kind to numpties, but do expect them to improve quite fast . Are you offering to fill in for the odd evening?

lemonaid · 19/09/2006 17:35

[backs away in terror]

Uwila · 19/09/2006 17:49

Bridge????? Isn't that for people my mother's age? Actually, I think my mother would sudder at the though of playing bridge (unless it involves expensive red wine).

Never played bridge in my life.

suejoneziscalmernow · 19/09/2006 17:50

we are fun to play with. FUN I tell you. Much laughing and shrieking and wine and dinner. First time we played with our friend Jane, her husband came in to see what was wrong as "her other friends don't play like that"

suejoneziscalmernow · 19/09/2006 17:50

Oh goody - beginners to teach...

Uwila · 19/09/2006 17:52

Hmmm.... okay maybe. I see a drunken bridge meet-up at Sue's place when she can't go out 'cause junior is sleeping upstairs.

pudding77 · 19/09/2006 18:01

I'm with you Uwila, wasn't aware that people still played bridge!

MrsBigD · 19/09/2006 18:06

hmmm my uncle plays bridge LOL and is very serious about it. He tried to explain the game to me about 25 years ago and the mind went blank

OP posts:
Uwila · 19/09/2006 18:08

That's my point. Your uncle. He's (presumably) my mum's age.

suejoneziscalmernow · 19/09/2006 18:09

I'll have you know that bridge is a very trendy game amngst the in-crowd in London... everyone I play with (mother excluded) is under 45 . You all obviously don;t move in the right circles!

xoxoxo · 19/09/2006 18:28

sj: I see the attraction of bridge - you mentioned food, alcohol, and betting/ fleecing senile oldies out of their hard earned pensions.
mykindagirl!!!

fatfox · 19/09/2006 19:48

I like the idea of ridge, but it sounds a bit sedate doesn't? Like G&T's on the verander...or is it verandar?

fatfox · 19/09/2006 20:07
