Let's start a new thread the old one is getting too long

I'm off travelling 22-29th but before then I hope I'd be able to 'find' some time but probably not in the week leading up to 22nd as dh would probably divorce me

Irish? Yes on this end -- my mom's grandpa came over to US in late 1800's as a kid, I believe from county Dublin, and spent his [rather long]life on his farm in the western hills of North Carolina. My mom spent her summers there when she was a kid.

2Cute · 09/09/2006 22:49

BigD, gee thanks mum. As if raising a family isn't hard enough as it is without criticism. Its usually the MIL, so to keep some kind of balance in the world, I guess for you its your mum. Does she live close enough to have regular, shall we say, "input"?

MrsBigD · 09/09/2006 23:14

2cute ... mum lives in Germany so only 'blesses' us with her presence a few times a year for 4-5 days. Saying that I'm mad and going on a mini cruise holiday in Greece with her 22 September. Hoping being away from normal home environment she won't have too much amunition and if she does I just push her overboard...

Fatfox -- fantastic news! I'm really happy for you.

My grandmother was Irish, if that helps anyone...?

2Cute · 09/09/2006 23:37

BigD you're as nutty as me! I love it

Uwila · 09/09/2006 23:41

Oh, ThankGod, Fatfox. I'm so relieved for you. Try not to scare me like that again, will ya????

I've just finished dinner and home DVD viewing with DH, and as soon as I came into the office he murmered something like "oh, yes, must checkk mumsnet AGAIN" and i murmered something like "Bugger off!" MEN?!?!?!?

Anyway,I'm so gald, Fatfox, that all is well. We will all have to raise our glasses to the fatfox beanie on Friday.

Hey, Sue, are you coming on Friday?

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/09/2006 00:17

No Uwila can't make Firday as I'm having a farewell drink with my acqua buddies. (day before is farewell with bridge buddies, following Thursday is farewell with work buddies... getting the picture? )

MrsBigD · 10/09/2006 08:02

SJ looks like you're trying to get into the russian drinking pattern So when are you having your farwell drinkies with us then?

Hi FatFox, sooo pleased to hear the good news and happy to have been able to help. DH sends his best too - he was worried for you too.

my Nana's father (great-grandfather) was Irish and her husband (grandfather) was Welsh. I tend to err on my Welsh side tho, especially in the Rugby.

I regard myself British rather than English tbh!

Apparently we're in for a mini-heatwave today people so break out the shorts and get out there!

PC666

fatfox · 10/09/2006 10:05

PC666 - a heatwave? Fab! I've been told to rest today, so I can rest in the garden.

Have sent DH to church with the kids. He hates taking them on his own, as they are wild and unruly

Sue - we must meet up before you jet off - do you want to suggest something? How is your finger by the way?

See how many Irish we have on our thread? WE should rename it the West London Murphia

MrsBigD · 10/09/2006 14:48

no Irish here I'm sure, except for maybe does it count that my bosses are both Irish?

OP posts:
fatfox · 10/09/2006 15:19

Hhhhmmm... not sure that counts MrsBigD

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/09/2006 15:59

bloody irish - first the yanks tried to take over now its the irish... and Yanks is trying to claim affinity to both

FF - don't know when I can meet up until frantic preparations have calmed down - could always do a coffee but I didn't think anyone would want to meet of an evening when you've already met up on 15th.

Think I'm going to get a coffee from Starbucks now if you fancy one...

Tutter · 10/09/2006 17:21

sue - i think i just saw you in kew. i called your name as loudly as i dared without being taken for a nutter if it wasn't you. if you went into tesco metro for a sarnie then you have been spotted .

i was loitering outside with the pram while dh was purchasing haggen dazs caramel crisps [dreamy emoticon].

Tutter · 10/09/2006 17:21

haagen

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/09/2006 17:36

How funny Tutter - I did fleetingly wonder if it was you (as I came out) admiring black lab puppy, but didn't hear you call me or I would have said hello. The call of a skinny latte from Starbucks drowned you out!

I have been trying to work out how to get 50,000 bits of stuff into a normal sized suitcase and needed a break.

Tutter · 10/09/2006 18:03

she was a very cute puppy. i don't even like dogs but thought she was adorable .

i have been lurking on your other thread - excited on your behalf. clearly you need a bigger suitcase. i know you have been inunddated with offers of things for junior so haven't made the offer so far, but if it's a boy and when you're back, if you need anything (i pretty much have everything! i am mug consumer numero uno) let me know. seriously. clothes. toys. whatever.

Tutter · 10/09/2006 18:04

inundated

fatfox · 10/09/2006 18:38

Hi Tutter

Sue - sorry I missed the message earlier re. Starbucks. How about Friday or Saturday daytime if you are around. I'm not sure if I'm doing the GRR thing on 16th yet, as am feeling a bit fragile, but could deffo make it up to Kew village for a coffee - or in my case a healthy and calorie mad hot chocolate

I'm free from late morning on Friday (minus school run at 3pm) and Saturday until about 1pm.

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/09/2006 18:42

Hi - I have to go to the fco to get my papers apostilled on Friday morning and I don;t know how long it will take - all morning if last time is anything to go by. But could fir in a coffee around lunchtime I'm guessing. I also need to fit in a haircut but haven't quite worked out when yet...

Thanks for the offer Tutter, I'll wait until I get back if thats OK as if Junior is smaller than expected, I have virtually nothing for him!

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/09/2006 18:45

I am soooo determined to travel with only one suitcase and one carry on bag as apparently most of the americans arrive with three bags apiece. I have to prove that I am a nonchalant world weary traveller who normally travels with all my possessions in a brown paper bag. Competitive, me?

fatfox · 10/09/2006 18:48

Sue - ooooh you're just playing hard to get now aren't you?

MrsBigD · 10/09/2006 20:24

SJ just it one sea chest then plenty of room in that . You might want to look into one of those vacu-pack thingies on the shopping channel... reduce clothing volume down to a fraction. Had one yonks ago and it's ok if you don't mind doing some ironing or bathroom steaming at destination ... actually I did neither and went for fashionable grunge crumple look

OP posts:
lemonaid · 10/09/2006 20:50

I think, now you are a parent, that your one-suitcase days may be numbered...

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/09/2006 21:34

FF - do you not think I'm worth waiting around for ????

I can call you when I leave the FCO, takes me about an hour from there?
