Any new babies in Barnsley?

Hi, I'm new to mumsnet and already addicted - why else be up at this unearthly hour? (DS 3y just been sick on me that's why, but that's another story Sad)
I live in Darton, have 3y DS, who's at nursery half the week, and DD 2 months. I'm 35, I'm bf little one and due back to work in September. I'm looking for baby play mates for DD and would love to meet up with other similar mums with new babies who are free at the beginnings of weeks.

Hi amber - there's quite a few Barnsley mumsnetters around so no doubt they'll say hi to you soon!

I'm a bit of an inbetweener - we live in Flockton so Huddersfield/Barnsley/Wakefield really. My DS1 is almost 3 and Ds2 7 months.

There have been meet ups at the Eastfield Arms before - perhaps we should try and arrange another one soon?

amber5 · 20/03/2006 09:18

Hi sarahhal. I know Flockton, I was brought up in Midgley. What school are you thinking for your ittle ones? does ds go to nursery yet?
Eastfield Arms sounds brill - lets get it going...

Hi Amber, I'm from Clayton West so near to you too. I have a 5week ds and would be happy for a meetup at some point too.

amber5 · 20/03/2006 10:15

Hi chloe, Congrats on your new ds, is he your first? We were over your way yesterday, playing at Leapfrogs in Skelmanthorpe.

Chloe55 · 20/03/2006 10:19

Yeah he is my first, I know Skelmanthorpe well, went to a friend's dd's bday party at Leapfrogs a few months ago.

I hear there is a place in Barnsley (near Darton I think) that does mother/baby sessions, like massage, baby yoga, chat etc - I think it is held in a pub, does that ring any bells with you?

amber5 · 20/03/2006 10:36

Chloe, It doesn't ring bells, but sounds very interesting though.
My ds is 3yo and he has a good circle of friends that he met at bf group etc, we go to toddler groups that are mainly in play-barn type places and a bit too 'rough and tumble' for the little babes.
I'm keen that dd gets to meet some play mates her own age as it's fab watching them notice each other for the first time and learn to interact... baby massage/ yoga sounds right up my street. Or maybe swimming? I never got into that with ds but would love to. dd and I are without ds each Mon, Tues Wed (ds is at grandparents/ nursery)

Maybe we could meet up at Leapfrogs then? There's more running around space than in the pub ( and very nice coffee!!)

Amber, no doubt DS1 will go to village school when time comes. He's actually at nursery in Royston as Dh works in Pontefract and I work ( well will do when I finally go back from maternity leave!!!Wink) in South Elmsall so it's en route for both of us.

Which days are best to meet up? I've got both boys on Mon, Tues and Fri. Shall we just go for it and try a day next week?

sarahhal · 20/03/2006 11:00

Cross threads there!!

Clayton West baths do a Wednesday morning baby and toddler swimming 11.30 to 12.30 which I keep meaning to go to.

Chloe55 · 20/03/2006 11:07

have been thinking of taking ds swimming, just wasn't sure if he was still too young yet - what do you reckon? won't be too cold for them will it? the young ones i mean

Chloe55 · 20/03/2006 11:08

god, you can tell im a first time mum Grin

sarahhal · 20/03/2006 11:09

Ooop, that'll be Scisset baths! Not sure Chloe at what age you can start swimming. Seem to think I waited until Ds1 had had all his jabs - no doubt your HV will be able to tell you.

spidermama · 20/03/2006 11:12

Hello Barnsley folk.

My SIL lives in Barnsley and is due to have her first baby in a couple of weeks. She's Brazilian and hardly knows anyone yet so I will maybe try to tempt her into the MN circle.

It's a long shot I know but are there any other Brazilian Barnsley folk you know of? Actually Portugese would be good too as her English is not brilliant yet.

amber5 · 20/03/2006 11:30

Not sure where we're up to now.
I'm with babe only each mon, tue wed while 3yo is at nursery. Except today; He's been throwing up all night so I've had zero sleep, but he's full of beans now and jumping off my arms while i try to type...
would love to do either swimming or leapfrogs, whichever you guys prefer. (not sure I'll fit into a cossy mind!!).

Chloe55 · 20/03/2006 11:36

i think i will try ds in the bath with me and speak to hv about swimming when i see her on wed. if she gives the allclear i'd like to do the swimming, any day is good with me - if not, then leapfrogs is fine.

amber5 · 20/03/2006 11:40

I remember with my ds, the advice was to wait til after second injection before swimming, but my HV said last week they now say so long as it's clean and warm it's ok from any age (and she's very 'by the book'). Speak to your HV and let us know.
I regret not taking ds earlier because by the time i did take him he was already too set in his ways to try something new. I think the younger they are the more they just accept whatever's happening.

Hiya amber5

I'm in Mapplewell, have dd who is 2.5. There are 3 others too in Barnsley. Alibo lives around the corner from me. We normally see each other at playgroup most weeks.

There is Trace2 and CuffyJ who are in Royston.

I'm actually going to be moving although we haven't got a buyer for our place yet but I'm sure we could get a meet up sorted.

Spidermama, I started a thread for you about your SIL but you never saw it.

Nbg · 20/03/2006 11:45

I'd love to do a meet up in the second week of April as dh is going on holiday so I'll be going out of my mind.

How about lunch and play at Eastfield?

Chloe55 · 20/03/2006 11:45

I found this when googling swimming - looks good, pools should be nice and warm too. I have tried to contact them but it is answer phone at mo, will ring them again if any of you are interested?

Chloe55 · 20/03/2006 11:57

Just rung them, the course starts again at the end of april (£91 for 12 weeks) does sound very good, if a bit pricey. have given them my details and they will contact me next week.

Guess it has nothing to do with the meetup but thought i would mention it for any of you who might be interested.

sarahhal · 20/03/2006 12:04

A friend of mine takes her baby to the one at Denby Dale and says it's great. A tad pricey for me at the mo and I can never guaranteee that I'll be toddler free!!

Nbg · 20/03/2006 12:07

Oooh they do one at Cedar Court!

sarahhal · 20/03/2006 12:22

Did you choose one of those houses Nbg that you posted on MN??!

Nbg · 20/03/2006 12:50

Yeah

the 4 bed cottage. We've negotiated a price but come to a standstill because we haven't got a buyer for our place.

amber5 · 20/03/2006 12:56

The £91 one looks a bit pricey for me atm i'm afraid. Just confirmed with Scissett - they do parent & child wed 11.30-12.30 for £3.80. Also Royston does wed 1.30-2.30 for £2.80 but that's quite a bit further from Clayton if Chloe's still interested??

Just had a bath with ds - first one we have taken together and he absolutely loved it so fingers crossed when I do take him swimming he might quite enjoy it. Not sure if I am keen to go to Scissett baths quite yet as I seem to recall the pool is quite cold from when I used to do aqua-aerobics there, if you do start going I will prob join you in a few weeks though.
