Next meet up, Tuesday 4th September.
During the day, either Botanic Gardens in Durham or the Slug and Fiddle near the Gala Theatre in Durham City centre.

Now for some random chat.
DS sang a song about bolognaise today. And DD walked some more. But still prefers crawling and using my nipples as handholds on Mount Starbuck.

Toilet trained dd3 decided to wee on every floor and several bit of furniture :( she's only 27 months but has been out of nappies since 2.
No idea why. Ended up sticking a nappy on her. I know it was intentional because she had a naughty face on. She did go to the toilet for a poo though
She sang a song about people she loves too. 'I lub Mammyyyyy I lub Daddyyyyyy' etc.
Damn her cuteness!

Hopefully Frozen will be along at some point to tell more, but I'm sure any good-sleeping, good-feeding vibes sent her way would be appreciated.

Umbridge dd is 3 and a bloody half and has been out of nappies since before she was 2. The other week she did shit poo all over the fecking house for several days. She just shat wherever she was sitting, sat in it, spread it over herself, ground it into the carpet. You name it she did it. It was vile.

Dd makes up songs lots too. She sings about anything. I love it. When told not to sing, maybe at the dinner table or something she says "Oh, I'm going to talk about a song about xyz" and recites it instead.

I hope it is nice enough for Botanics next week. The slug with all 3 gremlins is not agreat prospect!

Can I just say Bollocks? And Arse? And Fuck, fuck, fuck? DD's appointment at the RVI today. For some reason I was convinced that they'd say that the A&E trip was "just" an asthma attack and had nothing to do with the bag of Bombay Mix deluded. Nope, we have a confirmed allergy to peanuts and epi-pens for nursery and to be carried at all times when out and about. Luckily we are clear for other nut allergies but her symptoms last time were worrying and anaphylaxis is a real possibility. Nursery have been fab, no problems with the medication, staff know how to do epi-pens but will have refreshers, everything nut-free but parents will be reminded not to bring outside food in. School however refuse to administer any medication and parents will be called in to do it. How the fuck does that work with a life threatening condition? Oh, I'll just hop on a metro and come over to give her some adrenaline? They "allow" inhalers at school but the child has to administer it themselves. Fucking ludicrous. I foresee a fight coming on....

at school. How does that work? Surely they administer medication? What happens when a child is on antibiotics or something? Have they never had a child with allergies or other medical conditions that need medication before? Do they help children with inhalers? Of course they give medication, they must do! There will be something written down somewhere I'm sure, you'll just have to bash the right head against the right wall.

Ys, that's ridiculous - could it be a training thing?

If you need anti-bs a parent has to come to school to give it as they will not do it. They will set up the inhaler but the child will have to administer it themselves. Fucking stupid. I will find the right head and bash HARD. My parents had a similar problem with my brother when he was at school. Bear in mind he was at a special school for children with profound disabilities. They refused to administer any of his epilepsy medication even rectal valium which is given in prolonged fits because they weren't medical staff. (TBF the teachers were willing to, it was the cunting LEA that refused) It was debated in the Commons and involved a legal fight. He ended up being moved to a school the other side of Liverpool that had a school nurse. My mother still fumes about it 20 years later.

I just can't get my head around the fact that a private nursery are totally happy to give anything but a local authority school gets its knickers in a twist. Going to speak to LEA tomorrow about it, see if it is just school being wankers.

Dear god! Really thinking about home-school now! But it is the fear of being sued. I once worked in a cinema and was told that if anyone was ill/injured I was not to touch them, even to do CPR, because they/their family could sue the cinema and me if they were injured, even if I had done all the right things. I was supposed to stand and watch, instead. The same rule applied to fire-fighting -we were not allowed to smother a cigarette-end fire in a bin, but had to call a manager. If the fire had got out of control we could be sued by a patron who was injured.

Madness.

I have had a brief nosy just now on places I've not visited in a long time eg. Chat and I was quickly reminded of why MN became tiresome. spiffy I'm sorry to hear about your DD's allergy. Is it that the school are afraid of doing it wrong? Surely a bit of training and an ongoing consent form would solve that? How stupid of them!

That is wrong. Challenge them on it. We have 5 boys with epipens in our school (teens) Two of them in my form. they all carry their own epipens but in the event that they actually will need to use the epipen it is likely that they will not be able to inject themselves as well as the anaphaylaxis will be setting in.

Hence, anyone who has access to it can do it and no CPS in the land would prosecute for mishandling. there is a name for it which fails me but i may be able to find out if you like. With that in mind, I have had a talk with my form that these lads have epipens and have instructed them on how to use it if they ever need to help. in real terms they can die in 3 minutes so even waiting for a teacher (or a paramedic or a parent) to appear on the scene is not worth the risk.

the worse thing that can happen from giving adrenaline which is uncalled for is that the person gets hyperactive for a couple hrs.

Hello Lurkey and welcome Northerners certainly welcome- I'm South Tyneside but work in Newcastle. I have a 5 year old, 3 year old and a 1 year old.

I shall calm down tonight and approach the LEA sensibly tomorrow. Hopefully it is just someone at the school who is taking the no medication line too far and they have separate arrangements for allergies.

Thank you ischel, that is v useful. Hopefully it is mis-communication and we can have a plan in place. Failing that I have a year to bash heads

I believe they, everyone at the school, need to have their training updated. Ours was done 2 yrs ago along with diabetes. In primary it is easier as the schools are typically so small the epipens can be held in one central location and be hurried over to anywhere in the school quickly. At secondaries that is no longer an option.

Just thinking too much about this now spiggy but here is a thought: you can ask them how do the (LEA and School) thinks it would play in the national media if they stood aside and watch a child die of anaphylactic shock for the want of an epipen that is sitting in the main office the whole time and because of their elfin safety.

Spiffy that's terrible! Our school is the same with antib's but The secretary said she'd give them even though she shouldn't really... :) small village schools where you went to yourself and where they know your whole family have their benefits it seems!
Can I admit to never having been to the botanical gardens . My mum said they're not far from Durham high (my dd used to go there so I know where that is). I might be up for meeting if I can find it!

Braved the metro centre with ds (16) and 3 smallest Dds today. Wasn't too busy but had a breakthrough with ds as he seemed to actually enjoy shopping and even picked some stuff out himself!! He's starting 6th form on Monday so needs clothes. I'm really pleased he actually agreed to wear some proper trousers that aren't track suit bottoms! Amazing.

Spiggy - that is fucking outrageous. I would take it as hight as you need to. My exP was nut allergic (among other things) and so it needs a rapid response. I suspect that you have spoken to someone who is clearly talking out of their arse.

Ischel - Oh no, you can blame me, I suggested Tuesday as everyone busy all this week and I am busy on Monday!

phew. It was some arse talking. Lovely nursery manager gave me some Department of Health guidance to quote and LEA say an individual care plan can be done, just need to speak to the Head. Will do that when DS1 starts back. Such a relief.

Nursery have been fab, took DD in at 8:30 today. All staff have been briefed and refresher training in epi-pens being sorted. I only told them at 5pm yesterday! Cook waiting for me to discuss what she buys and what would be suitable to eat. Medication sheet with instructions on what to do in the evacuation bag in her room. Recent photo attached so easy to grab the right one in a hurry instead of reading names.

Feeling much better today, was a bit shocked by it all yesterday. Now I just have to train the relatives and we should be ok

Why is it that we are not meeting up today? I need cake today.

Baby now has 2 teeth. Baby also has cold. Baby has forgotten what sleep is. Mummy has been up since 5.30 after disturbed night but stupidly did not have breakfast with everyone else because I went back to bed for half an hour.

Only one slice of bread.

I'm feeding the baby, having a shower and dragging the gremlins ot the shops where I feear much crap will be bought.

Also have to start building our scarecrow. Why oh why do I enter these things?

I have bus at 8am, need to take some plimsoles back to Clarks because not even the wide fit ones are wide enough for wide foot boy so could be at botanics by 10am. Or I have bus that gets me to Durham at 10.30 so Botanics by 11.30.

Indith if you haven't already been out I need to pop into EW as soon as A has eaten breakfast if you want me to get you some stuff? I only have one child so am relatively free!
