Getting exciting now Grin Wink!

OP posts:
MySecretSelf · 19/07/2012 09:06

Also marking spot. Have some kind of wierdy lurgy - blinding headaches, hot/cold flushes, shivery, sore glands, cough - but no sniffles. Off work, mostly in bed v bored!!!!

MySecretSelf · 19/07/2012 09:12

Oh, and for the record even I balk at buying & wrapping Chrismas presents in July! I will no doubt make a start on the shopping later next month, but wrapping always waits until the last minute December accompanied by mince pies, fizz and Christmas carols.

MySecretSelf · 19/07/2012 16:38

So I've been to the doctors. They took a lot of blood and said I had to go back next week. Hmm I was kinda expecting a 'phone us for the results in a week'. As well as having the lurgy this week I've also developed some kind of bone pain and apparently this can be caused by something viral hence lots of tests to figure out what is causing it (including tests for arthritis).

SurprisinglyCurvaceousPirate · 19/07/2012 18:29

Oh you poor thing secret, I suspect they've tested for glandular fever? Sounds horrible Sad.

Hope you feel better soon x

Having a bit of a mare at the moment with DS2's behaviour - getting to the end of the tether so have put in a call to HV about it. Nearly hit him today Sad.

LaGuerta · 20/07/2012 07:16

Poor you Secret. How are you feeling this morning?

Pirate, sorry DS2 is causing strife. We've all been there. Is he doing anything specifically new or just upping the anti on all fronts?

LOL Gig at me "making" you buy the book. I nearly updated the status yesterday after I looked at more of the recipes in detail and was drooling over them. I now want to learn how to make Danish. Pity it takes 18 hours or somesuch to prepare the pastry.

Gigondas · 20/07/2012 07:35

Yes sympathy about ds2- is it change of routine to school hold that is making him worse?

Am counting days til nanny1 goes as she is indulging dd1 (chocolate buttons in her porridge yesterday Hmm) which obviously makes nanny2 and me look like bad guys. I don't mind this but the hissy fits you get from nanny1 when mention anything is painful. Have interviewed a couple of replacements but i can't help but hope won't need the intensive help once i am out of chemo (part of issue was my bad shoulder meant couldn't lift dd2 but that is on mend).

Secret- sorry that you feel do rubbish - when will you get results? It's bloody miserable being ill.

Grin at you salivating at that book lag as have been doing same and cooking like a demented thing as been staying at home until my immunity ok (end of weekend). The scones were a mixed success but going to try some of biscuits next. And I still blame you for making me buy it Wink

SurprisinglyCurvaceousPirate · 20/07/2012 07:58

Hmm, as I'm visiting both LG and Gig over the next couple of weeks I'm quite pleased at all the wonderful baking going on Grin Wink!

DS2 is definitely upping the ante - over all things, but especially around going to the toilet which I suspected he would hence putting off potty training until now Sad. On Wednesday the CM put him on the naughty step and he deliberately wet himself, sitting there saying, "I'm going to use my pants as a toilet" Shock. Yesterday he did the same thing to me three times - stood there looking at me while weeing, I wasn't even telling him off, just reminding him to go to the toilet Sad. My friend who I was with said she'd had same problem with her DD1 with this and threatened to put her back in nappies which sorted it. So I lost my rag yesterday and said "do you want me to put you back in nappies like a baby?" and his reply? "Yes". Angry Sad

He is so utterly adorable but so bloody frustrating in equal measure.

Secret, hope you're feeling better. We're so excited about our trip to Edinburgh - have all our tickets booked! I can foresee this becoming an annual event if we can Grin.

Right, off to get the boys fed and dressed - dh has a day off so we're going to brave Legoland!

LaGuerta · 20/07/2012 11:35

Hmm, I wouldn't hold your breath - thus far I have made one loaf of bread.

Your DS2 sounds like he would do my nut in too. There is nothing like wilful bad behaviour to really make me snap.

Our battle at the moment is getting DS1 to wipe his own bottom. He doesn't want to get poo on his hands Hmm. This morning he attempted to wipe the poo on the wall to avoid this Angry. Me shrieking at him averted this though.

LaGuerta · 20/07/2012 16:24

Updated bake off count:

2 loaves of bread. Both basic white tin. Both successful

1 batch of shortbread. Almost successful. Despite giving them 4 mins extra could have done with a few more on top of that.

Gigondas · 20/07/2012 16:54

Am impressed - shortbread like scones is something have had mixed success with.

Will make sure get something suitable cooked for your visit pirate.

Lots of sympathy about ds2 - wilfulness is painful.

disguisedeb · 22/07/2012 09:01

Hi everyone, I can't remember being this grateful for summer holidays before. Now desperately trying to organise our holiday, hoping to get back to Austria next week, for a couple of weeks. So now am comparing prices of ferry, tunnel, b+b near Dover or one in Germany to break up the loooooong journey.

Hope all the challenging children have become less so in the sunny weather! We amazingly had blue skies here yesterday but it's grey again today Sad

SurprisinglyCurvaceousPirate · 23/07/2012 20:00

How lovely Deb, hope your holiday plans are shaping up nicely Smile.

DS2 has been a bit better since my total meltdown last week Sad, still having problems with the toilet training but actually resorted to the naughty step this morning and he used the toilet with no accidents for the rest of the day.

Enjoying the sun while it lasts Smile.

LaGuerta · 24/07/2012 18:34

Hello,

We are pottering around this week. DS1 is doing a four day crash swimming course: 4 x 30 mins. Seems to be going fine. He enjoys having "lunch in the car" most of all. So, my top cheap summer holiday entertainment idea is to make a ham sandwich, drive down the road, park up, and then chuck sandwich and apple into the back = happy kids. I used the word "picnic" and he got most put out that he would miss out on "lunch in the car". Hmm

Glad your ds2 is easier Pirate. Handsome photos of him on FB today. He is suddenly looking much more grown up.

SurprisinglyCurvaceousPirate · 26/07/2012 11:49

Thanks LG, yes he does look very grown up now he's out of nappies - bittersweet Blush.

DS1 is booked in for an intensive swimming class next wk! I've been so slack with swimming and need to get it sorted as want both the boys water confident.

Off to see Gig and the Giglets now, hoping the London traffic isn't going to be too horrendous!

disguisedeb · 26/07/2012 21:30

Hope you've had a good meet up Pirate and Gig

LaG, love the picnics

Ethan had his mri scan today, they are so noisy aren't they Gig. It was such a long process, up at 6.00 so that he could have water as he couldn't eat before, out at 7,.00 hospital at 8.00, sedation not until 10.00.Canula inhis hand He really fought sleep, but eventually dropped off on my knee , so they wheeled me in a wheelchair with dead weight ethan on my knee to the scan place.

Placed him ever so carefully into the machine and when the 1st scan started and all the noise started he woke up!!! Tried again, and he woke again, so they said would I go in with him, as in, into the mri. I managed to squeeze myself in, with my ear defenders on for the noise , head scraping the roof of the tunnel there was so little space. I think I could become claustrophobic after any more of them.Thankfully I managed to hold myself together today , and after numerous ins and outs ,he had some dye in the canula by a doddery old radiologist who looked like he'd just walked in off the street, then finally we were out . Then a few more hours on the ward until Ethan came round and could walk without wobbling. He slept 2 hours on way home but is fine now.

Unless there's anything to worry about then we get the results in a few weeks, not like Grey anatomy where the drs are looking on the screen and come and tell you straight away!

Gigondas · 26/07/2012 21:40

We did have a lovely meet up - big gig and the boys all played nicely and mini gig enjoyed watching and having cuddles with pirate.

Ethan is a very brave boy and glad you got scan done but they are noisy and tedious - ESP the dye bit. Few weeks seems a long time but hope will give you some answers on what best to help ethan.

More scans for me tomorrow (standard one at this point in chemo but as I was saying to pirate today , I am no scan fan). Then weekend enjoying Olympics before back to hospital next week.

Have insider info from friend who saw opening ceremony rehearsal that it is very good.

Scottish are you better ?

SurprisinglyCurvaceousPirate · 28/07/2012 00:06

Oh Deb, that sounded so stressful, you poor thing Sad. Hope Ethan is fully recovered and wasn't too traumatised by it.

We did have a lovely afternoon yesterday - had lots of cuddles with one smiley little girl Smile. And it was very kind of Gig not to mention that DS2 had 4 accidents, culminating in him presenting me with some poo in his hand Shock Hmm!

Am currently watching the opening ceremony as am on a promise of a lie in tomorrow so am staying up. I thought it was very good though I'm not really getting the point of the rock concert we're watching now (12.05), seems like padding to me when all we want to know is who's going to light the flame!

disguisedeb · 28/07/2012 07:43

I didn't get the point of the music at that point either, but apart from that I enjoyed it Smile I was ironing whilst I was watching it, I'm sure that someone else has been sneaking their ironing in here as I ironed for ages and still haven't finished.

disguisedeb · 28/07/2012 07:48

and Ethan is fine, but he must have been listening in to some conversations, he said at my scan I didn't panic! He's never used the word before!

Gigondas · 28/07/2012 18:01

Glad Ethan ok. And I have to say I found ds2 antics amusing but would drive me nuts if had it every day so can see you could get frustrated.

Am in hospital getting checked out as have slight temperature- painful thing about chemo is they are ultra cautious when I suspect all that is wrong is I overdid it a bit yesterday ESP Staying up for ceremony.

Can I ask you (ESP deb as must have been through this) how you deal with it If your kids ask about dieing? Dd1 asking in a curious way - dh answered her by saying we all die but only if old, very poorly or if we run in road (Grin nice one dh).

Now we haven't discussed this as such but she has seen it in films (lion king), books and there was the little girl in her class who died last year. I also strongly think nanny1 has been discussing her dad in earshot so may have picked up that (seemed concerned dh would die - thanks for that nanny which was what we didny want to happen).

She seems fine - just curious so my instinct is to leave it At chat we had but nanny1 was Doing usual drama out of a crisis concerned.

disguisedeb · 29/07/2012 00:19

think your dh said just the right things to dd1.

Hope temp comes down soon Gig.

SurprisinglyCurvaceousPirate · 29/07/2012 09:29

Gig, we had these conversations with my friend's children and had lots of advice from Winstons Wish. We always tried to answer questions when asked in a matter of fact way but not add details where not needed. Also advised not to use euphemisms like "gone to sleep" or "passed away". On phone so don't know how to link but pretty sure they have lots of advice on their website x

Are you at home now?

Gigondas · 29/07/2012 09:54

Nope still in hospital - feel lot better and temperature seems ok but have to run the usual gauntlet of trying to persuade them to let me out when see dr.

Have their book so will use that.

MySecretSelf · 29/07/2012 14:30

Hi everyone. I thought I'd better post before this falls off my threads I'm on!

Gig - I hope you get out of hospital soon.

I'm feeling much better now, though not 100%, thanks Gig. Blood tests results all pointing to something viral but I have to have them re-done in a month. I went back to work this week - I had a trip away that has been planned for ages and to postpone it would have been an absolute nightmare for me (work would have been happy for me to postpone though).

I hope all the swimming classes go well for everyone. DH has taken DS to parent & child classes since he was a baby and he loves being in the pool. He can propel himself with a float across a width quite easily now. Unaccompanied lessons start 3.5 - 4 yrs here, so he'll move into that class after the holidays.

Ethan was very brave Deb. Poor boy. Pirate - how is DS2 behaving now? As you all might remember I was at the end of my tether with DS a wee while ago so I can really sympathise. He's been really good over the last month or so though which is really nice.

The very good news I had recently was that I got a merit for my final exam! No more exams for me! However, I do have to write 8 - 10,000 words by the end of August ... Gulp. That in itself is tough enough, but August is a very busy month for me with baptisms, parties, the Festival and of course a meet up with Pirate Grin. It'll be fine though I'm sure

Olympics - loved the opening ceremony and absolutely gutted that we didn't get any tickets. I wish we'd booked a few days in London anyway and just tried to get park tickets so we could go and soak up some Olympic atmosphere. Ah well, there's always the Commonwealth Games in 2016 - I'm sure they'll be just as good... Hmm DS is full of Olympic fever. They've been doing loads on it at nursery. I've just ordered a couple of Olympic books aimed at children for him which he's very excited about.

Right, I must go make a start on this management report. Wish me luck!

Gigondas · 29/07/2012 18:02

Out then in again as found bugs Hmm - suppose good that dealing with it but hospital time never good and means will get no time at home now before others go on holiday Sad.

Glad you are on mend secret. There were lots of people round to watch cycling near us over weekend even in the rain- girls and dh went down which dd1 loved as had a flag. She is also very into the Olympics jncl. The gymnastics which could get dangerous..::
