Right, chaps .

If that South-East London lot can get it together to go for a curry, why can't we?

I know it's probably a bit close to Christmas to do anything in a hurry, but let's aim for January, shall we?

I suggest Rasa in Stoke Newington Church St but am open to suggestions.

Anybody interested?

Yes please!

My masterplan was to make dh come home early and take over the bedtime routine, so if anyone wants to meet before 8.30 for a drink, let me know!

I'm studying Shakespeare:Text and performance. It's my first tutorial so I don't think I ought to miss it... but I really am gutted!

goldenoldie · 06/02/2006 21:52

Dino - just seen this - snowed under with the twins!

I'm just down the road and would love to join you all for an hour or so, before I fall asleep!

Frogs - Where are you all meeting for a drink first? Somewhere non-smoking (please?).

frogs · 06/02/2006 22:05

Don't know, goldenoldie, make a suggestion! Stokey is pretty close to us but not really on my usual track, so I'm not up to speed on good haunts.

goldenoldie · 07/02/2006 08:54

Frogs - I have no idea either! It's been a while since I was on the boozing circuit. Anyone else have a suggestion?

Dinosaur · 07/02/2006 11:30

I don't know any non-smoking places, I'm afraid.

Dinosaur · 07/02/2006 12:28

Bump for bundy, HC, ooops, aelita, ingyb...

Ingyb · 07/02/2006 13:16

Sorry, I have not been too well lately - tummy stuff, anyways me thinks that Indian may be a little to rich for the old palette (mm is that correct???) we'll see. I am up for the drink - no preferences as they all sell Lemonade - with a slice of lemon to be daring.
I'll pop back later to get the final meeting spot.

suzywong · 07/02/2006 13:17

Can one of you make a peg dolly of me and sit me at the table, thanks

CarolinaMoon · 07/02/2006 13:23

peg doll of me too please. I never got inside veggie Rasa (largely because of dp's horror of unmeaty meals and also cos it is always full dammit!), so that will be the nearest I've got .

Ingyb, if Rasa Travancore (on the other side of Church St) is anything to go by, it's not heavy food at all - it's south Indian, and very lovely with not a Korma in sight.

Dinosaur · 07/02/2006 14:16

suzywong and carolinamoon - I'll get the DSs on the case!

ingyb - sorry you've not been too well. The food at Rasa is quite light, really - let me know if you change your mind.

I wasn't actually planning to come for a drink beforehand myself, so would be very grateful if someone else wouldn't mind organising that? The Red Lion is a nice pub, but I have to say it is quite smoky. I used to drink at the Prince, but I think the same applies there. I haven't been drinking anywhere else in Stokey for a long time...

suzywong · 07/02/2006 14:17

thanks, but do remind him that I must have a suntan in order to be wholy authentic

NotQuiteCockney · 07/02/2006 14:18

peg doll for me, too, please. I will try to make it to the next one!

Dinosaur · 07/02/2006 14:19

suzywong

NQC - I'll add you to the list.

bundle · 07/02/2006 16:03

I'm still up for this, dino, remind me which side of the street Rasa is on (William Patten, or t'other?). did you decide on where to drink?

goldenoldie · 07/02/2006 18:10

The only place I can think of is that big weatherspoons place on Stoke newington High st. Opposite Nat West, very near the bookshop. Does that makes sense? Does anyone else know what I'm talking about. The rochester castle. Does have a non-smoking area, and is big, so even when smoky it's not too bad.

hoxtonchick · 07/02/2006 18:14

yes, definitely coming. dp can deal with dd's comedy sleeping habits.... i probably won't make it for the pre-drinkies so will see you in rasa.

bundy, it's on the william patten side. very pink! oh, & ds appropriated your pom-pom, called it fluffle & refused to be parted from it .

bundle · 07/02/2006 18:15

oh good, hoxty, was worried would dd would eat it like the kantan napkins... is this week her settling?

hoxtonchick · 07/02/2006 18:20

yes, settling this week. she is pretty , i am a bit . and thinking i might cut my working hours more...

did you get the nursery app in?

Arabica · 07/02/2006 18:56

Listed in descending order of smokiness (there's nowhere non-snoking to drink in Stokey that i know of, apart from my flat) Rochester Castle on Stoke Newingtom High Street is a bit grim, v large and v smoky (apologies if it's anyone's fave local!)
Atmospheric Irish boozer--Old Shillelagh (just past junction with Defoe Rd); The Red Lion, OK local in middle of Church St nr jn Lordship Rd; new bar that used to be called Bar 98 and now called Stage 2 I think, at 98 Church St, by jn with Bouverie Rd.
I'd be happy to meet people in any of these 8pm?

MarsOnLife · 07/02/2006 19:01

sob!

blimming OU!

goldenoldie · 07/02/2006 19:14

Arabcia - thanks for the list. The Weatherspoon does have a non-smoking area - I know, I've used it.

Agree, it is not trendy/aspirational/atmospheric, just a boring chain/plain boozer. On the plus side, it has no loud music and is not full of kids (the teenage kind, not the nappy kind!)

I'm not a beer drinker, but apparently they do 'real ales/ gust ales'? I'm off the booze - would like to lose some weight................

What about that place that used to be Bar lorca - what is that like these days? Do they still have a bouncer on the door and ear-splitting music?

What is the Fox Reformed like? Always looks very civilised from outside.
