Starting Keto Newbies

lukiebebe · 01/01/2024 18:57

Hey!

Starting Keto from tomorrow. Wedding is in 7 months! I lost a bit of weight before Xmas, but in these last two weeks it's piled back on quite drastically :/ saw a photo of myself today and I looked like a balloon!

My cousin started keto in May 2023 and has lost over 2 stone. From 11st 4 to 9st! This gave me the kick up the butt to do this. I'm not only doing this for my wedding, as I genuinely want to feel slimmer but it'll be a bonus if I can lose a stone or 2 to fit nicely into my wedding dress. Currently - 12st 13lb (might as well call it 13st) mummy of two boys (3 and 2) so tough to lose baby weight!

I'm so new to it though and trying to educate myself on what I must do. I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself though or fixate on numbers because that tends to freak me out and I give up.

Would love to meet anyone else on here who is thinking to do the same this year.

Speak soon. Flowers

I fancy the tuna fritters @lukiebebe think they'd make a good lunch.

I was going to do fajitas but forgot I've put pulled pork in the slow cooker. Not hungry yet from lunch but no idea what to have that with yet... we'd normally have rice or chips with garlic bread and I'm not sure cauliflower rice would work. Am thinking maybe over cauliflower and broccoli cheese with some gravy? Any ideas anyone?

I’d go for pulled pork with cauliflower cheese, sautéed broccoli in butter and garlic.

MorningWalk · 21/01/2024 21:26

@swimmingdory thats great you got on the peloton! Well done! I really wish i liked avocados! I must try them more!

@lukiebebe your dinner sounds amazing! I have not been out for dinner yet but stayed at my sister's last night and resisted wine which is pretty good for me! We also went for brunch and i just had eggs, bacon and feta. It looked like a tina portion without the bread but it was delicious and actually really filled me up! I also find i can become dizzy and nauseous when i haven't eaten but lots of water and electrolytes really make me feel 100% better and it passes!
Im also going to try tuna fritters! Will probs leave out the bread crumps though. I can imagine just the cheese will be enough to hold them together.

MorningWalk · 22/01/2024 14:42

Just tried the tuna fittas for lunch. They are delicious. Dipped them in some garlic mayo x

lukiebebe · 22/01/2024 17:35

@MorningWalk ah fab I'm so pleased you liked them!!! I'll let the fiancé know he did good haha.

I'm having an emotional day today... hormones! So just wanted to raise you all up and tell you you're all amazing! Keep it going you got this! If you have a bad day, don't let that stop you! I had a crap day a few weeks back and you all pulled me out of that, so thanks! Flowers

Today I added lemon to my water and it's helped a lot I've drank more than usual because it tastes yummy! 🍋

I had boiled eggs, cheddar cubes, almonds and berries for lunch. (Tends to be my go to lunch as easy to prep- I'll make more containers of it Wednesday but will make chorizo and cheese egg muffins).

Snack was- Greek yog, bit of peanut butter, dark choc shavings and frozen blueberries.

And now I've had some chicken in a cherry tomato sauce with avocado. Got my resistance class as 7 so I've made sure to eat 2 hours before this time! Hopefully I won't pass out like I almost did last week! 💪

When I get back I have cod fillets baked in oven with green pesto and veggies.

How are you all today?

Food sounds amazing @lukiebebe well done. I wonder if those tuna fritters would work in like a cake case or similar so I could pop them in the air fryer at work.

I'm ok, sulking a bit as scales aren't moving, in fact gone back up 2lb over the last week a little each day. Frustrating. I'm really trying to avoid tracking as that makes me get overwhelmed and more likely to fall off. I'm feeling benefits as in I'm not as hungry, and I know there can be an element of not moving after the first week whilst your body catches up but going back up is annoying. Will keep pushing as I believe longer term it will come right.

Went out for Indian with family last night. Had a shashlik but was disappointed with it as came out saucy and wasn't overly tasty tbh. Have finally made the fajitas for lunch today though!

MorningWalk · 23/01/2024 07:29

@swimmingdory i did mine in the air fryer, just put them on a bit of greaseproof paper. 180 for 15 mins x

swimmingdory · 23/01/2024 19:31

Trying these on the weekend I think.

Had burger and salad tonight. Ok but not amazing. Fajitas for lunch were nice. Have made tuna mayo for tomorrow. Not sure on tea yet have salmon so maybe that but think kids wanted lasagne so maybe a version of that.

Booked us a holiday today for end of March so hopefully that'll keep me focussed and get me on the bike. Am out drinking all weekend at bongo bingo bit worried about that on no carbs but will hopefully be ok.

You all doing ok?

lukiebebe · 23/01/2024 19:59

Hey all!

Glad the tuna fritters have been a hit!

Oh I could demolish a lasagna! What you planning to substitute it with? You could make a parmigiana for you? I'm obsessed with that atm.

I'm feeling a bit low with scales too but trying to focus on how I feel and look. However, im still getting bloated and cannot for the life of me figure out what it is !! I have such high inflammation markers ! My intolerance test showed many foods im intolerant too I've cut them out but I still balloon out! Annoying me so much!

Keto lasagne is honestly one of my best dishes! Substitute the pasta sheets with strips/discs of aubergine. Lightly roast them first in olive oil so slightly soft, then layer up. Really easy and honestly is delicious.

BigBoysDontCry · 24/01/2024 11:01

My first order of bread from heylo is due to arrive this week. I'll let you know what it's like. I'm OK with the livlife stuff from waitrose or the hi lo stuff from Sainsbury's. Both nice toasted with pate or cream cheese, but I'm looking forward to having a "white" soft roll with bacon.... Hope I'm not disappointed

Gobolina · 24/01/2024 11:12

I had my planned night off last night and ready to get back on it. Just had a cheese and mushroom omelette and half an avocado. Will have homemade burgers with cheese & gherkins for dinner tonight.

I'm dropping out stevia so need to get used to tea with nothing 😫

lukiebebe · 25/01/2024 17:42

Hi all!

Home made burgers sound good! I fancy a burger need to do this!

I don't know if any of you have Instagram but I follow this guy on there insta name is - ketosnackz and his snacks looks so yummy! One of his recent ones is a homemade burger with a cheese and red onion bun! Omg yum!

Trying celeriac chips tonight quite excited and putting that with chicken and homemade ceased dressing!

@BigBoysDontCry oh yes please I'm really intrigued!

Another lb off the scales this morning! Was nice to see. Trying to weigh myself every now and then now as it for a bit addicting! Our weight fluctuates during the week so we can't be focused on just number (I tell myself)

TMI- but booked in for a colonic hydrotherapy Monday to help with my severe bloating! See how that does!!! She also offers micro biome testing so I'll be enquiring about that too!

Happy Thursday xx

Just had a burger on a white heylo roll. The roll was light and fluffy but slightly chewy and very very filling.

It's not clean keto but I did enjoy the change from dark seedy keto bread. 3.5 carbs per roll and basically works out £1 a roll.

I low carb rather than keto nowadays so what it did was allow me more carbs with the rest of my dinner so I had some delicious beer battered onion rings with it.

I don't think I'd eat one every day, but for a treat it was grand.

I have lots of other things to try, including pizza bases which are 5g carbs.

Now I have to go sort out space in my freezer for my supplies :)

swimmingdory · 25/01/2024 18:50

@Gobolina am impressed you've managed to have a break and get back to it. I've been really craving pasta or something as I'm wanting to emotional but but know I'd just scoff everything lol.

I made a keto lasagne yesterday with a creamy cheesy sauce but it didn't sit well at all I was uncomfortable all night. Today I've had some Parmesan coated salmon with broccoli and cauliflower cheese which was lovely.

Im tired and headachey and ready for bed tho. Think I'm a bit grumpy and need to give myself a wobble lol

Bunchymcbunchface · 25/01/2024 20:13

Keto from 2019-2022 then I stopped as I didn’t think I needed it anymore. What a mistake.
started again last week and I’ve lost 10lbs already after calorie counting for 18 months and bouncing up and down by a few lbs.

for me perimenopause and carbs just don’t go together

MorningWalk · 25/01/2024 20:56

I love a homemade burger. With lots of cheese and bacon yum!

@lukiebebe well done on your lb, great to see progress! I have never tried celeriac chips what were they like?

@BigBoysDontCry oh what i would do for onion rings 😋

I have been fasting most days 19/5 but have just eating dinner tonight after doing a 46 hour fast! I am shocked at myself, i just kept going and it didn't really bother me. I
Would have gone another night if i hadn't already prepped fajitas and promised the fiancé a nice meal together.
Tried bone broth for the first time today to line my tummy after the fast and NEVER AGAIN! absolutely disgusting 🤢🤮

Bunchymcbunchface · 25/01/2024 21:07

Lasagna pasta replacements
edam/Gouda cheese
leek sheets
strips of courgette
cabbage leaf

all work well, just depends on your taste

Gobolina · 26/01/2024 10:08

I once made a lasagne using streaky bacon as the sheets and lots of cheddar.

It was very rich and needed the balsamic green side salad with it 😂

BigBoysDontCry · 26/01/2024 17:23

Heylo pizza bases are lush. 5g carbs per base, pretty filling too.

Gobolina · 29/01/2024 08:46

How was everyones weekend?

I went out again on Saturday and got quite drunk (vodka & gaseosa though so keto friendly-ish). Ended up eating crisps yesterday, and homemade bread, but resisted mcdonalds that called me in the morning and the Indian that wanted me to get it at dinnertime.

I'm not drinking anymore now, its interferring with making good choices and after that hangover yesterday, I'm back out. I haven't really drunk at all for about 2 years now, last year it crept in for special occasions but I've had drinks the last two weekends and its not for me anymore.

I'm going to sign back up to the gym I was going to, on the 1st, it has a small gym area but its mainly classes and you can go to however many you want each week. Its a bit annoying becuase they want you to sign up, and pay for, 3 months at a time and I'm not sure if we are going to be moving further south shortly, we are waiting for something we like to come up, you can guarantee as soon as I sign up, something perfect for us will come on. They were letting me pay monthly before but it looks a bit cheap and is obviously not the preferred payment for some reason. And it looks ridiculous, by now I should really know what I'm doing about moving or not 😂

I'm still off the stevia in my tea, I don't think I'll ever get used to unsweetened tea but it is what it is, sweeteners have to go. I'm drinking less tea now though and more water, I aim for 3l a day and wasn't hitting that becuase of allthe green tea. I canot drink green tea without sweetener, even the flavoured ones, as it tastes like pencil shavings but i'd rather hit my water targets at this stage.

Planned meals this week are omelettes for lunch, and paprika chicken, tapa de magra, homemade burgers. I have some white cabbage and a courgette to use up so not sure what I'll do with those yet. Got a lot of mince in the freezer. The courgette was for courgetti but I can't find the spiralizer 🙄

Anyway, this is a great wall of text, I'll shut up now 😂

swimmingdory · 31/01/2024 19:30

I'm still going. Had another heavy weekend alcohol wise and ended up having a cheese and onion roll about 6pm as I was just going to die if I didn't eat something and there was literally no other option. But I got straight back to it and have stuck to it since.

Scales are still not moving but I've def lost a bit of size around my face and collar bones. I've found my way back to fizzy (zero sugar) pop that I need to knock off 🙄 and also still at the dark chocolate. Can't say Im feeling full of energy but it's good to not be dictated by cravings all the time and I'm still really enjoying what we're eating.

Is anyone else still at it? It's been so quiet!!

swimmingdory · 31/01/2024 19:30

@Gobolina did you make the gym?

Gobolina · 31/01/2024 22:06

@swimmingdory I'm going tomorrow, had to wait for payday today.

swimmingdory · 01/02/2024 06:49

God I feel that this month! Fair play. I still need to convince myself to get moving I just feel so bloody tired in the mornings and am struggling to get up. Any point after that is a nightmare as always someone wanting something!

I've not sorted a lunch again!! May take some eggs and do some scrambled at work later

lukiebebe · 01/02/2024 08:38

Hi all!

Hope you're all well!

I'm still going at it somewhat but I did cave the other day and have pasta.
I'm trying my best but work is so busy and wedding planning that it's hard to stay focused!

I keep yo-yoing between 12 4 and 12 5 .. think I need to start walking more!

@swimmingdory I'm also not prepping lunches much like I did before really need a kick up the bum!

@Gobolina good luck at the gym!! I'm hoping to go tomorrow morning 🙏

Tonight doing another chicken tray bake! Easiest thing to make when super busy.
